An afterthought.  Due to the many cobbled surfaces it is recommended that footwear should be both comfortable and practical, especially so should it be raining as cobbles get very slippery when wet. This is not a city for sightseeing in heeled shoes.

Well, shoot! I may have to leave my heels at home! LOL  My wife already has her Sketchers

huckster1, As you have not yet responded to my posts above, I don't know what your plans might be, but  IF you are intending to visit the castle, and not everybody does, I just now looked at the advance ticket situation for you.

Your date is up there and there is a number beside each time slot showing how many advance timed  tickets are still vailable for each time slot. The 0930-1000 slot has the fewest number remaining. should that interest you.

sorry for being lax, have a lot going on. We also have a cruise before this one that ends 2 days before this starts.  Leaving July 22nd on the Sky Princess for a Scandinavian cruise. Been rebooking flights, etc.  Thank you very much for the info!!

I'm surprised that this is the case.  Which HoHo route and web page is that?

I can't see anything on their website, other than some closures at the end of last week and the end of this week in the early evening - and those are because of concerts that are happening on the Castle esplanade.

....Please Note: Due to an event throughout August, the Johnston Terrace and Chambers Street stops will not be in operation until August 26th. The nearest bus stop to the cruise ship terminal is approximately 3.5 kilometers from the Leith Cruise Terminal, and can be reached by taxi (approximately 10 GBP).....

  4. Hi all, our cruise is stopping in Edinburgh.  We normally do HO-HO busses in most cities we go to, but I have been reading some issues

with the one in Edinburgh. We will be there on Aug 9th, the HO-HO page indicates that a few of the stop are closed until the 26th of Aug due to some event (not specifies) going on. That include the stops that would give the best views of Edinburgh castle. My question is, is Edinburgh walkable to see most of the major sites? I read one thread that said yes, but that was from 2004 LOL.  Thanks for any info you can give

  5. I've sailed numerous times with NCL, including four times on the Dawn and booked again for July. With regards to the pull tabs, I have seen folks win big. But then again, it is what it is - gambling! You win and you lose~

With regard to the dining rooms, we've never had a bad experience. The whole idea of a vacation for us is to relax and go with the flow. If we wanted to be free to attend a certain show, we made a reservation. Otherwise, we took what we got.

I've also been on the Carnival Ships. You can't compare that line with NCL or RC. If you were upset with the service and the food on the Dawn you will not be happy with Carnival.

Don't agree with you there - Many, many cruises on Princess, NCL, Carnival, RCL - food has gone down on ALL. NCL is no better than Carnival. None of these are any better than the other. Princess used to be our favorite, but the last 2 cruises on the Caribbean Princess the food was mediocre at best.

  6. Im on the 11/15 sailing. I will try to remember to post lots of pics of the drink prices and freestyle dailies. If you don't see a post from me by the first of December feel free to message me. :)

I'm on the 11/15 also - Memphis. Going to the U of Mem v Houston football game on Sat then on to NOLA for the cruise

  7. The are SEVERAL advantages to the all-inclusive beverage package and Princess has by far the best. Just came off the Norwegian Dawn 3 days ago and it is $55 + 18% ($64.90) and does not include coffees or bottled water.

The best advantage to us, is the fact you can try a ton of new stuff without worrying if you have just wasted $10. I like wine, so I can try new varietals, brands, etc. If I don't like what I chose then I can chose not drink it and choose another. My wife likes "boat drinks" and can try new concoctions.

I am primarily a red wine drinker but it gives me the chance to "get my feet wet" with whites without worrying about wasting my money. On my last Princess cruise in Nov, I got to know the head bartender at Vines and she would give great suggestions and would even pour small amounts of different wines to try - something not possible in a pay as you go situation.

Get bumped into by a staggering drunk or unsupervised child running around? No prob - go get another.

Grabbing a couple bottles of water each before going ashore is great as well - we used to carry a case of water on board, but no longer have to.

A couple of wake-up specialty coffees every morning is nice to start the day.

I live in Tennessee, with has a ridiculously high tax on wine/liquor. The 20% discount Princess gives you on bottles of wine takes some of my faves well below what I can get them for here

I consider it a pre-paid plan. It fixes my costs ahead of time. I can't tell you how many times I have seen people (a lot of college kids) get their final statement a get quite a sticker shock. I have seen several $1000+ bar bills.

The all-inclusive makes sense for some and not others, just up to you. I like the flexibility not being concerned about charging too much to my account.
