  1. My husband and I just booked a cruise for September 2023 with a port day Sept 12 from 7am-4pm.  We really just want to go to Hell and send some postcards and take some pics, etc and then head to the public beach at 7 mile beach.  How easy is the bus system to use?  It looks like it is only $2.50 per person to go to Hell where a taxi one way is more like $45.  I would assume you need exact change for the bus.   Any suggestions/information would be greatly appreciated.

  2. We have booked a cruise for Sept. 3-10 on NCL out of NY to celebrate my parent's 50th anniversary. We have never been to NY or Bermuda so super excited for both. I was checking flights and we can get direct flights to and from Indianapolis/NY LaGuardia for about $260.00. That seems pretty reasonable to me, but I've never priced tix to NY. :)

I'm currently looking at what hotel to stay in. We are flying in on Thursday so we can check out the sights. We want to see the Statue of Liberty, 9/11 Memorial, Times Square, try to catch a show like the Lion King...any other suggestions? There is 7 of us and we won't have a car.

Someone on another thread I was reading suggested the Best Western Robert Treat Hotel 50 Park Place, Newark, New Jersey, 07102-4398. With our AAA discount we can get the rooms for $144.00, which is great. My concern is that it is too far away from the things we want to see and we will spend more on transportation than we save.

On another thread, the Courtyard Marriott New York Manhattan/Fifth Avenue

3 East 40th Street New York, NY 10016 USA was suggested. I priced rooms there and they were $229/254/271 for the 3 nights. That doesn't seem terrible to me either for what we expect in NY and the convenience of being closer to things.

Any other suggestions? It might be cheaper to book a suite with a pull out couch since we have 7 people so we only have to book 2 rooms vs 3.

Also, any help with transportation options would be appreciated. Thanks so much.

  3. We are planning a cruise for September 2017 to celebrate my parent's 50th anniversary. We are going to Bermuda and want to do a 7 day so it looks like we have NCL, Celebrity or Carnival to choose from. We have cruised with Carnival, Royal Caribbean and Princess. I have just started looking, but we have to book by 8/14 to get the current promotion. So i expect to pay for the spa etc., but I saw that some entertainment is ticketed?? Can someone help me understand what things are not included in the cruise price?

    Thanks

  4. I just sent Steve an email to reserve for my family of 5. Maya Chan sounds like fun, but we are only in port from 7-2. 3 in our group does not drink--my parents and my 17yo son, so it did not seem like it would be worth the money for us. Plus we are doing some expensive excursions the other days when we are at port longer. My husband is really looking forward to the $25 massages!!

I think all of the choices sounds like fun......so much fun to be had, so little time!!!

  5. All of these tips are great. Just remember pick and choose what works for you and don't worry about the rest. One of the things that makes cruising so fun is that you can customize it to what you enjoy!!

I have to say, we love a balcony. We really enjoy sitting there in the morning drinking coffee and in the evening with a glass of wine in our pjs before bed. Definitely worth the extra money for us.

One of the funnest things we did was to take along bubbles to blow from our balcony. The kids had fun doing it and you could hear lots of others on their balconies laughing and enjoying it too.

    Happy cruising!!

  6. Say it ain't so! Am I really at the end? I just started reading this thread a couple of days ago and have been obsessed. Thank you so much for sharing your insights and beautiful pictures. We are booked on this same cruise in June and this has got me super excited!! I feel like I've gotten to know you guys and would love to cruise with you sometime--me and my husband are 1/2 glass full kind of people too and just love to have fun and enjoy the experiences in life. We were in the yucatan a couple of years ago in the ocean, drinking a beer on an absolutely perfect day and some of our fellow cruisers were complaining because the beach wasn't as nice as somewhere else they had been. I couldn't believe it. Some people are just never happy. I was a little concerned about the dream because of the reviews, but you have put my mind at ease. Now I have some decisions to make about the spa and the chef's table--we don't like seafood, but it seemed like so much fun!!

I'm glad that you are feeling better. Again, thank you for sharing all of this with us.
