  1. Marriott and Courtyard are nicer hotels, the Holiday Inn is probably a step below your hotel. The Brickell area is great with lots of local dining options - I would stay where you are unless the price difference is significant.

I was on the Hampton Inn website and the Brickell location quote was $132.00 night and transportation ONE WAY to the cruise terminal with 50% off parking( would then be $11 per day). I called hotel direct to confirm everything and she quoted me $309.00 per night! What is up with these motels only offering one way transportation to the cruise terminal

  2. Keep in mind that the Hampton Inn includes a nice breakfast when you consider pricing.

I do not care for the particular Courtyard that you mentioned. Think it needs an update.

Of the four hotels, Marriott Marquis is the newest. It is also a full service hotel.

My preferences of the four would be Hampton Inn and Marriott Marquis.

Does the Hampton offer parking while on the cruise

  3. I'm not a VIP on Oasis but I am a member of Club Royale. I mostly play video poker at $5 a hand -- not what I would consider a high roller. I do spend several hours every evening in the casino.I received the VIP invitation and a free Oasis trip, too, which was a real surprise since our last cruise a couple of months ago was on the Majesty for only 3 nights and I didn't play that much. However, I did get a Royal Flush on Video Poker on the last night. The casino host and other staff members flocked around me asking when I would like to take my next cruise. "Give me a free Oasis cruise and I'll be there" said I and lo and behold!

    Congratulations & enjoy

  4. We are booked with Liberty Tours for a trip to the Blue Hole & Secret Falls within the next 2 weeks. They have TERRIFIC reviews on Trip Advisor so we are giving them a shot. I will let you know as soon as we get back how it went. I am a little nervous as I think the trip to the Blue Hole is about a 2 hour ride from Montego Bay which is where our ship ports, but Ricardo, the owner of Liberty Tours lives in MoBay and this is the trip he recommended for me. I told him we didn't have to go to the Blue Hole, just wanted a guide for the day and have a little water time and some jerk chicken......he said the Blue Hole is the best and time won't be a problem. Ok, giving it a whirl!! :)

    What is secret falls

  5. Your best bet is to stay the night before the cruise in a park and cruise hotel. Some have free parking and some have free shuttles to the port. You can check out the forum on ports here on CC. It often costs less to do this than to park at the port.

We've had reservations at the hotel we usually stay for months but at well over $200./ night we are canceling

  6. We flew that same day and in fact were one of the four planes being used by Promech to take passengers from Ketchikan to Rudyerd Bay and back. Below is a photo of the accident plane just prior to taking off on it's fateful trip.

Our flight was not bad, but the pilot was also very cautious, making note that he was staying away from the mountains and flying a more circuitous route. Our 30 min. trip was closer to 45 min. We actually had sunshine for brief moments in the air. The weather was worse in Ketchikan than in the fjords. We enjoyed the flight, but once we learned what happened to another plane up at the same time, it was a very sobering experience. Nothing about the flight caused us to question whether or not we should be up there. Of course, at this point we don't know the cause of the accident and it may come down to something else other than weather.

Thank you for sharing. We had flew earlier in the week and yes after the accident it was very sobering

  7. It is nice I've gotten coupons before but failed to use them. Thought I'd try this one but oh how to narrow down what to use from the almost 6,000 photos of our amazing trip

  8. 2 week ago, I too booked at a booth when I got off the ship.

Price was much cheaper than the ship excursions.

    It was a great experience.

    Here are a few photos I took! : )

What day were you in Juneau? I see you sailed the same week we did & I got awesome shots from our Harv & Marv tour. Breeches & bubble net feeding were so awesome.

Very nice shots you got too

  9. Definitely the land. Denali was incredible. Wished we had more time there. Were there three nights. Glacier Bay was equally impressive, but ports while nice, were less so. If I go back to Alaska, I plan to rent a car and just do the interior and the Kenai Peninsula and skip the cruise portion. But I travel for the experience and seeing new places and some cruise to cruise.

    I agree!!!

  10. Glad you are even thinking of a tip. Many of these ppl really depend on tips as they are just employees of a bigger operation. It is expensive living in Alaska and most of these ppl share a great amount of info with you. Just returning from our trip we were saddened to see such a lack of tipping. I know these excursions were expensive!!!! But we always gave a nice tip too.

  11. We are just back from RCCL's 12nt southbound cruise on the Radiance of the Seas. Here are some quick thoughts.

If you are in the planning stages, my advice (and the captain's) is to take the southbound route. That way, the strenuous part of the trip, the land tour, is over and the very first day on the cruise is a sea day so you get to recoup a little - maybe. Also, the captain recommends taking the southbound route because the very best scenery would be during the day. On the northbound, you sail through the inside passage at night.

Secondly, if you are closer to sailing, watch the weather in Alaska and be flexible with your packing. Believe it or not we had 80+ degree weather in Talkeetna and Vancouver was a toasty 90. I needed more short sleeve tops and shorts and less long sleeve shirts and jeans.

You will not see escargot on the menu. When I asked our server, he said that it is still available, you just have to ask. So, if you like escargot, ask away!

It is impossible to do everything! Pick one excursion in each port that is most important to you. Then, if you have extra time, enjoy the town.

Excursions that we most enjoyed -

Harv & Marv - whale watch - Juneau

Island Wings - Misty Fjords - Ketchikan

    White Pass - Skagway

Native Alaskan show - Icy Strait

    Land tour excursions

    Glacier Landing in Talkeetna

    River Rafting in Talkeetna

If you go on the land tour with RCCL and stay in Talkeetna, ask for a room along the river. It is quieter and you get a nicer view. If you stay in building 7, you also get AC. If was needed the week we were there.

Most of all, have fun planning!

If you have any questions, I would be glad to answer them.

    Nancy

This Nancy also just returned and we had a most fabulous trip! We did Harv & Marv, Island Wings but in Skagway we rented a car from Avis & drove to Emerald Lake. On our Whale tour we saw 2 whales breech and a group bubble net feed several times. On our drive a mama bear & her 2 cubs walked across the road in front of us and a about 5 miles down the road we spotted a male black bear that was on a rock cliff just above our car great close up. We did the southbound trip after a week land tour too. We were blessed with the best weather possible; so much for the rain gear we purchased for the trip.

  12. WE are scheduled with this operator for a floatplane tour Misty. Who was your pilot and please tell me about your experience.

Just returned and Michelle, the owner, is the pilot. Wonderful trip !

  13. After asking before how many media cards I would need and getting different answers. So I took a LOT of cards just to be safe. I know everyone is different! We just returned from our land & cruise tour and I must add the most awesome weather possible blessed us. Anyway wanted to post in case someone else wonderd about how many photos they would take like I did.... Our total was 5,711 photos

  14. Just returned from land tour & SB on Coral Princess! We had a fantastic time; considered it 1 of our best vacations ever and we've done a lot of traveling. Maybe it helped we had nothing but beautiful weather

  15. Just returned from the Coral where a man was denied entry to the MDR on Formal night without a tie. Yet on second formal night I even saw a lady with jeans on .
