I am wondering the same thing.  I am traveling Venice St Lucia to Trieste and am considering going by train.  I have an option of a direct regional train that only has 2nd class seating or Italia rail that I can book premium or 1st class, but this one has a change of train.  We also will have 2 large suite cases and 1 carryon.  Any info would be appreciated.

I've read there is room for large pieces of luggage, but I'd like to hear from someone here.  Hopefully I (we!) get a reply!

No issues with it being too crowded.  There was one stop and we had to drag our luggage to the next train, but we didn’t have any issues.

What's luggage storage like on the trains?  We will each have 1 checked luggage and 1 carry on with us, and I'm wondering if we can keep those near our seats, or do we need to store the bigger ones at the end of the car we are in?

We took the train to Ravenna from Venice last year with no problems.

A group of 5 of us will take this same train trip next month.  How crowded were the trains on your trip, and did you have any issues with your luggage?

San Jose is not a port…you would have to be bused there, I assume from Puntarenas or Puerto Caldera.   It’s been 22 years since I was there, so I can’t say what it is like.  Cartagena is covered on the South America ports of call board.  You might get some ideas about tours there.  EM

    You're right!  It's Puntarenas.

Cabo is a tender port so you would have to be able to manage the steps into and out of the tender.  Puerto Quetzal has a lovely straw market at the port, otherwise it is a long bus ride to Antigua which is all cobblestones and narrow sidewalks without curb cuts.  Colon is too dangerous to DIY unless you are a large group.  San Jose?  What San Jose?  Cartagena might be doable on a private tour.  EM

A tender in Cabo will be ok; just wondered about streets/sidewalks with a foldable wheelchair.

The straw market in Puerto Quetzal sounds nice; we will plan on that!

    San Jose, Costa Rica

That's a good idea for Cartagena.  I'll look into that.

    Thank you for your insights!

  6. Has anyone been on this cruise in the last couple of years with a mobility scooter, and/or a transport chair (foldable wheelchair)?

I'm wondering if you went ashore in all the ports and found it manageable?

Our ports include, Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Quetzal, San Jose, Colon, Cartagena

We most likely will try things on our own, vs a ship excursion, but would love to hear from you if you have done either one.

    Thank you!

We are going to Boston, MA; Portland, ME; Sydney, Nova Scotia; Halifax, Nova Scotia; and Saint John, NB  in September 2024.  My mom has Parkinson's and very limited mobility.  She is pretty much wheelchair bound.  She can do transfers if they are not big (like a handful of steps), she can do some steps if they are wide enough for my dad to do them with her so he can help her.  She has a wheelchair that we push her around in and we can rent a scooter if needed.

What type of excursions do you suggest that are handicap accessible?  She would LOVE to be able to go whale watching if there is a place that can accommodate her with getting on and off the boat.

I appreciate the help.  This is a trip for my parents 50th Anniversary and she is feeling bad that she will hold everyone back and says she just wont get off the ship.  So I'm determined to find things that we can all do together.  We are also not opposed to renting a car somewhere if that would be the easiest option for us.

Depending on your timeframe in Portland, a ferry ride might work, and be fun for all of you.  There are several routes to choose from, so review on the Casco Bay Ferry website.   Link over to the ADA section and you will find a lot of information on how they can accommodate your mother.  Enjoy your cruise!

We are staying at the Hilton in November.  Any information that would be helpful?  Thank you.

If you are a Hilton member download their app.  You can choose your own room (day of, or day before check in - can't remember when it opens for selection) , and if lucky and they are available, look for a corner King room on one of the top floors that looks out over the bay.  Windows on two sides give you a fantastic panoramic view!   Enjoy!

  9. We have stayed at the Hilton on Biscayne and really liked it, but it is sold out for our January dates.   Which of the above two do you recommend?  Should I just go by price, or are there location pros and cons?

I also know where the Publix is to buy wine near the Marriott.  Is there somewhere close to the Intercontinental to do the same?

    Thanks!

we're just off Symphony, and we had 2 free days each.    My friend had purchase a 3 device package, and I used one of his 'devices'.    My DH used the 4 free days, all on his phone, all that we had to do, was to use my personal info for 2 days, with a unique log in, and then use his personal details, with a separate unique log in for his other 2 days, and he didn't use the days consecutively either.    He used one and then waited a few days before using the second day.

    Perfect; thank you!

We were just on Navigator and we were told my free day couldn't be on the same device my husband used on his free day...

I wonder if this is because you need 2 unique sign on IDs to claim both of the free  benefits?   We usually travel with a phone and an IPad, so that should solve the issue I think..

  12. I'm not sure how this works... can anyone help?

My husband and I are both diamond plus.  We both get 2 free days of WIFI on a cruise I believe, although we have never used that benefit.

We have been both buying the Voom package pre-cruise, but with the daily rates jumping significantly, I'm wondering if it makes sense to buy the package for just one of us and using the free days for the other.   My question is this:  If I buy the package for myself, am I still entitled to my 2 free days?  Can I just let my husband double up with mine to have 4 free days?  Or, do I forfeit my 2 free days all together when I purchase the package pre-cruise?

    Thanks!

In October 2022 there was an Avis/Budget shuttle and no other car companies. I am a frequent Avis customer so that was fine with me.

I can't promise it is still going, but I assume it is, and I don't know if anyone else has started sending shuttles again.

I do know cab and Uber are VERY HARD to get. The cab line was an hour or longer.

How long a drive is it from the port to the airport?  We will have someone with a scooter in our group, so we will want to send someone on the shuttle to pick up the car/SUV, and circle back to pick up others in our group. Trying to figure out how much extra time this will take.  Thanks!
