I'm on the May 16 Nova Alaska southbound. I've done the coach with other cruise lines twice. Have been on the Alaska Railroad before but not on the Anchorage to Seward route. My travel agent asked if I wanted to pay extra for the train and I said no. Part of the time the train tracks and the road are parallel to each other. I couldn't see doing the train for extra money as I don't think the scenery is all that different. Just my opinion.

We've actually given our bottles away to crew a few times before. In Alaska we had a birthday party for our son the last night and invited the expedition team. As folks departed well after midnight we gave them all our remaining liquor. No idea how we managed to pack and get all our things off the ship the next morning.

We do the same The night before we leave we tell our waiter at the  restaurant. They manage to come and get the bottles .It is sad they they have to throw so many out.

I’m with you DVD, I’m quite happy to pay whatever I need to for whatever I want but if I feel I’m being fleeced I’ll take my business elsewhere sharpish. I’m very limited on my time off and can only take time holidays in January. The last 3 years there hasn’t been a single cruise on SS that has been of any interest to me at all that’s been less than 100% supplement. Next January is the same. With these policies, price hikes, poor service, PR stunts etc, I’m starting to think I’ve already enjoyed my last SS cruise. They just seem to be on self destruct right now which saddens me enormously.

Agree 100%, our days with SS are probably over.We have a Seaboun trip booked in July we will see how that goes.Last year we took a land trip to Australlia it was wonderful, thinking we will start doing more of those.

  4. We have traveled only SS and SB we like the small size, the fact that everyone dresed property not  black tie.We did sail when this what the normal.I am Ok with the relaxed dress code but I refuse to sit next to someone in fit flops,hats,etc.,shorts.I will move on it is sad because it does not take a lot of effort to put on shoes, pants, and just be clean. We are taking a SB this July for 14 days. I hope people just dress like they are not going to Mc Donald's

it is not a charge....it is just a hold.  They are making sure you have enough credit in case you decide to charge stuff.

Having said that, it is pretty obnoxious to think that Seabourn believes that someone who has spent ten thousand dollars or more for a cruise might have a problem problem with their credit to pay their charges at the end of the cruise.  I wonder two things:

    1) Have they had a problem with this in the past? People running up charges on board and then not having the credit to pay their bill at the end of a cruise?   If this is the case, I am not sure what good a $30 per day hold would do.  I would have to believe it is  pretty rare on Seabourn.

    2) I am willing to bet that this is some corporate policy that is applied across all CCL brands.  I can see the need more so with the budget brands like Carnival or even Holland America.

Somebody did not think this through.

But, then again, who cares?  $30 per day hold is not going to make much of a dent in my available credit.

I Was surprised too Lola, not at all what I expected from my experience of Aussies over many years and certainly not reflective of the wonderful people that I’ve met everywhere else in this fabulous land. Some places just seem to have a certain culture. Anyway the view helps you move on. Only one night in Sydney tomorrow but it will be a good one! Got a nice corner suite at the Shangri La and meeting both new friends from the Indian Pacific for a drink and older friends joining the cruise for dinner in the rooftop restaurant there. After the cruise I get 2 nights back at the Shangri La for Australia Day! Off to dinner now xxx

Hi Davey We were in Australlia this past Sept/Oct .Loved it we did all land just the two of us decided a cruise was not the best way to see the country. We found 95% of the people to be wonderful.Only one issue but soon forgotten.Enjoy

  7. Two different promotions. We booked at Thanksgiving for the Black Friday Deal.We got $1000 shipboard credit. Christmas week they offered another deal. Our trip was $2900 less I was floored.Called our Travel agent and she cancelled the first and booked us on the new deal. This one only offered $300 for all suites except the Penthouse which was $1000.I was happy with that.Saved a lot of money .Hope that helps.
