  1. Yes the sate of Texas does charge taxes on the liquor served in port. Will be on the Prima December15,2023.  Have taken many Carnival cruises from Galveston & their drink package does not start till day 2, you pay the full drink price, that is on Carnival not the sate of Texas. On the Royal Carribean we took in January they just charged the tax part. When we went out of New Orleans in April NCL just charged the taxes.

Specialty restaurants in general. They are just an excuse to lower the quality in the MDR. I don’t understand the people who claim “they are cheaper than on land”. Do they not remember they have already paid for a nice dinner and the fee is on top of that?

I would rather have quality return to the MDR but why would they when so many are willing to shell out extra. Great money maker.

Sometimes we eat in the steakhouse, just for the a special night. Nice décor, quite, speeder service (cooked right there).  To me the real rip off is what they call the "steakhouse selection" in the MDR.  Maybe the cut might be a little better, but we have always found the regular steaks to be good.

  3. Think I have one, if you will let me know it you still it, we can make arrangements to mail it.

I keep looking for a pin or ship ornament from Carnival Celebration. We got married on it in 2003, our first cruise & did not know about either.

  4. We are from Texas & cruise out of Galveston often. Yes the Cheers card does not go into effect until day 2, but we have not had to wait until 6pm.  I don't remember what time it was, but got it at the Casino bar, when it opened.  Think that is around 11am.

  5. Back in 2011, we stayed at the Comfort Inn in Coco Beach, Fla. It is very close to the port & they had a shuttle.  Also the lot was fenced & locked all week. Pretty nice budget hotel, just stayed 1 night.  Have fun!

  6. We had a 8 day cruise on Carnival & paid the full price, but had to cancel, due to illness.  The problem is Carnival's policy is you have to sail to get credit for the days on the VFIP program.  Has anyone fought this & got their days reimbursed?

I feel they got my money & was still able to resell the room, even at a last minute lower price. (had to cancel 2 weeks before the cruise).  We are very close to Diamond & would make it on our net cruise if those 8 days were credited.   Just looking for a little feed back before I start calling to complain.

  7. I bought Berry Hill pimento Allspice Liqueur made by Appleton Rum at their estate a few years ago. It is great in eggnog at Christmas, but not sold in the U.S. Trying to find out if it is sold any stores or shops in town or at the port. I want some more but don't want to take the excursion again. By the way it was a great excursion & the estate is worth seeing, but have the attitude "been there/done that" & want to do something different. Thanks for any information you can give me.

  8. I see how old this thread is so I wanted to update the information. My hubby & I always do the tea, when we cruise Carnival. Some have been in the MDR of to the side , a couple in the Piano Bar. Sometimes very relaxing, but others are hectic & noisy. Still always enjoyed them, UNTILL our cruise last month on the Fantasy. I really got upset when the only tea that was offered, was Lipton regular or green, no different flavors like in the past. NOW for a small upcharge of $1.95 you can get a different tea.

I understand this is really a small thing, but the nickel & dime charges have gone too far. Guess we are going to look at a more costly line, because it might end up being just a reasonable. Just hate giving up my Platinum perks.

  9. I wish they would amend it to include coffee, if they would I would go for it, coffee is cheaper than beer, wonder why they wont count it in?

Coffee may cost less than beer but it also is a lot less cost to make (or the cruise line to purchase) so the profit margin is more, I would guess.

  10. We have been collecting the resin models, they are small wth a thread loop to hang (like a Chrismas ornament). In fact that is what I stared off doing is putting them on my tree, now I have them on a shelf all year. I need one from our first cruise on the Carnivial Celebration, which we got married on. I did not know they were available, guess I just didn't see them in the gift shop. I got a past guest pin from Ebay, but have not found a ship. If anyone has one I would trade past guest pins I have or buy it. It is very special to me because of getting married on that ship. We intended to go on it again but she was sold before we could.

  11. That would be awesome! I have been watching ebay myself for my pins with no luck. I hope you have some luck!

    Thank you for helping me!

    Laura:rolleyes:

Just an FYI for those buying on EBAY, watch the shipping charge, somtimes it can be more than the pin. I did purchase the Celebration pin (cost a bit more because the ship is out of Carnival's line) & still looking for the Pardadise.
