There is usually a bag or 2 and a laundry list left in your cabin on the desk, in a desk drawer or near the safe.  You can ask your steward for more if needed.  I always leave a $5 bill on top of the bag and usually get it back the same day.  2 bags pp on 3-6 day cruises.

We are going on an 8 day soon. Is it 3 bags per platinum member or 3 bags per person in the cabin? 2 of us are gold and 1 platinum.

  2. You might check with the County you'll be in. When we spread my mother's ashes it had to be done 1 mile out to sea.

I know this is personal and I don't want to butt in... but you might think of splitting the ashes up and spread some ashes close to where you live so you can "visit" every once in a while.... every time I go to the coast I still look out to where we spread her remains and think of her.

    Man, I miss my mother.

I am only taking a very small amount. Her ashes are being split between myself, my sister and my dad. :) so a small amount of the ashes I get will be going. The rest are staying in an urn.

  3. I'm not sure if you will be able to scatter the ashes close to land. Perhaps there is some different law with regard to Alaska, but when we did this in the Caribbean for a close friend, the Captain made us wait for a couple of hours to ensure the container would not drift to any nearby islands.

    Some info here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=40436457&postcount=23

I read there is no law against scattering them on land. Just as long as they are 200ft away from water or 3 miles off the coast. I would love to have contact with someone at Royal that actually knows what I'm talking about

  4. I will be sailing on the Explorer of the Seas inn sept 8th to Alaska. My mom passed away on Sunday and I want to scatter her ashes somewhere in Alaska. Can anyone tell me if they have done this on mendehall glacier or in any other area of Alaska and what I need to do in order to do it.

I called RCCL 4 separate times yesterday. Each customer service person acted as if they had no clue what I was asking when I asked about arranging to have them scattered off the ship. I was placed on hold numerous times and gave up. I figure I will try to just do something in alaska. We are going to Mendenhall and I figured that would be nice. I sent an email to the forest service asking what to do. That's what I found as a contact for Mendenhall glacier park.

Any advice is welcome. Her dream was to go to Alaska so I want to make this happen

  5. I did this same cruise in July and had also previously sailed to the Caribbean. It will be mostly what you are used to, but some things will be different. The main difference for me was not being out on deck a lot like you would in the warmer weather.

    1. I had the drink package. I made it worth it for me between at least 2 coffee drinks a day, bottled water ,soda ,and alcohol spread throughout the day. Most drinks are I would say between 9-12, with some as much as 14. I like that I can pre budget for it and it's so fun to not worry and just hand your card over !

    2. I think the latest I saw all aboard was 8:30. The buffet stays open later than 9. Possibly 10 or 10:30? And there is cafe promenade. They have sandwiches, pizza, soup, and desserts. Room service is also an option but they charge now and it was the worst thing we ate one the ship.

    3. There were shows every night, except maybe 1? (I gave my mom my compasses to look at or I would check). There was always some sort of entertainment at night.

    4. In the Viking Crown Lounge there is an area where they have a dj and dancing every night. It's a fun place to hang out and they had decent music (dh and I are close to your age if that helps).

    5. Yes any drink you want they can do at any bar!

    6. We saw a wide range of cruisers. Lots of families but maybe less when you go in September due to school being in.

You will have a great time. We actually booked again for next year!

And watch out for the hot tubs, they were not always very hot on our trip. Maybe 50/50. Not sure why. Everyone who was in them said the same thing.

All the on board activities you mentioned will be the same so enjoy!

Sent from my SM-G950U using Forums mobile app

That is very helpful! I know On past cruises the buffets were closed by 9 so that's good there are options. Im glad to hear about the dj!

  6. I'll be on the September 8 sailing to Alaska from Seattle. I've always done Caribbean cruises so this is all very new to me so I hope some of you can answer questions for me.

    1. Is the drink package worth it? It's on sale right now and I'm considering getting it.

    2. What do they do for dinner on the nights you don't get back from port until 8:30-9:00? Most dining rooms and buffets are closed at 9.

    3. Are there shows on those nights?

    4. I see they took the nightclub out. Is there ANY nightlife that a 30 year old single woman would enjoy?

    5. Do they offer the same drinks that are on caribbean cruises? I don't care if its cold. I want a pina colada!

    6. Is this type of cruise going to be mainly older people?

Just trying to get an idea of what to expect. I love cruising for the buffets, drink and hot tubs, Watching karaoke and going to comedy shows at night along with the club are my favorite things and just not sure if this cruise is going to be what I'm used to :)

  7. Where have you guys been able to find "flame retardanf" door decorations? I've waited years to celebrate a birthday onboard and I will be celebrating my 30th on the paradise in may. I am buying carnivals decorations for inside my room but would love to put some cutout signs and stuff on the door.

  8. Hey!

We will be on the same cruise together. I think we did the park and ride at the La Quinta a couple of years ago and it was pricelined for around $80 a night plus free shuttle to the port but a $10 pp charge for the return shuttle. Car parking for length of cruise was free.

That being said check out this... parksleepfly.com or stay123.com . I see some rates there for $99 a night.

BTW bring me some of that great late night grub from The Butcher and the Bee. I need to get down to Charleston again soon.

I'll look up the La Quinta for sure.

I've never been to The Butcher and the Bee. Hmmm sounds like a must try!

  9. We are going on the Splendor in April and need to find a hotel that has parking for the length of our cruise and s shuttle to the port. We stayed at the Holiday Inn at the Port in 2013 but that room is $270 a night for the Saturday we are going!

Does anyone know of any cheaper hotels? We will just be staying the night before our cruise.

    Thanks in advance!

  10. I'm sure this has been covered a million times, but I wanna clarify...

Dress Code for breakfast, lunch, dinner in the buffett...Not the MDR..

Can I wear tank top/skirt or jean shorts/tank top. What about tube tops?

I understand for the MDR it's a little more formal and probably will end up there on the formal nights only, but just wanted to be sure. I plan on wearing tube tops/halter tops/skirts or tank tops/skirts all day and don't want to change just to go to eat!

  11. On my 1st cruise last year my best friend and I eagerly set our alarms to wake us up in enough time to get ready for CoCo Cay. We got up, got dressed, packed our bags and headed down the hallway to the elevator and we couldn't figure out where we had to go for the tender. Luckily a guy stopped us and informed us that we missed CoCoCay. OOPS! We had to look a tad stupid, but hey we didnt hear the announcement in our room and weren't up as early as everyone. We nonchalantly walked back to our room and got ready for a day at sea!

My other story I will leave a little vague....

Always be aware of your surroundings before doing anything you might not want others to see. Lets just say some late night escapades on the pool deck without realizing there is a bar overlooking the pool are never a good combination...
