I think you will enjoy Lübeck. Altstadt (old city) is really beautiful. I am not photographer but this was taken last Sept from one of the churches. You really get a nice view of the city when you climb up. In altstadt the house are in traditional hanseatic style. I was pleasantly surprised. :)
Hmm...photo is not showing up...:'(

I would go to Lübeck, it is bigger and there is more to see than in Wismar.
My opinion from an American that has been living in Rostock for 3 years. :). I have been to both cities, and stayed in Lübeck for a few days.
Warnemunde to Rostock and back???

For restaurants I would also say Ratskeller, I don't know Zur Kogge....and Alex's is a no no, been there many many times with a group of ladies and the service is slow and the food is mediocre. :)
Personally Warnemünde is full of many many great restaurants, with fish being the main speciality. As summer comes the Fish Markets stay open longer where you can get fish sandwiches. Though the people don't speak English you can just point, it normally works. The fish market is after the train stations but before the bridge over the canal. Take a right at Lila Bakerei when walking towards Warnemünde.
