Evry ship has 10 dollar sales...

Through the years I've bought a lot of big ugly pink, green, multi color 10 dollar bags...

I put one of those in the middle of the table along with some silverware and a sodacan.

Most people will than understand that the table are taken.

I think I have bought the "matching" pink/green/purple/etc $10 scarf, which I put over the chair to hold my spot - so bright, you can't miss it.....😁 (It takes up very little room in the luggage, too)

Had wienerschnitzel on the Eurodam in the MDR.  It was delicious but enough for two!  Also, Lido fresh-made crepes with Nutella and powdered sugar for breakfast, or the strawberry-filled crepes with sour cream.  Not big on drinks, but I do enjoy a nice glass or two or three of ice water anytime of day.

Here's another vote for the wienerschnitzel - had it on Noordam in MDR, absolutely delicious!

  3. Lots of wonderful advice has already been shared above - this is what works for me:

I carry a book (or e-reader) and/or my needlework everywhere when cruising solo - everyone interested in either will stop by and chat, whether it's in the theatre waiting for a show, the buffet, on deck, or anywhere I find a nice spot to settle in. (They want to know what you're reading, what you're making, etc.)

I'm quite shy so having other people initiate the conversation really helps me out - I have met so many nice people!

Best wishes to you, enjoy your cruise!

  4. Everyone above gave you some excellent suggestions! I'm an introvert as well, and have done dozens of solo cruises - it really is a great way to travel for us shy people.

I carry a book everywhere - dining room/theatre/on deck/etc, plus often carry my needlework. Anyone friendly who is a reader (or crafter) stops by to ask what I'm reading or what I'm making - you can then decide how much you want to chat, or if you just want to keep it brief? Because they have a common interest, it's very easy to talk to them!

Also, finding "your bar" and getting to know the bartenders and regulars really makes you feel welcome when you walk in.

    Enjoy your upcoming cruise!

  5. I had a chain smoker in the stateroom forward (upwind) of me on my last Seabourn Quest cruise - I guess he decided the rules didn't apply to him.........

I'm also very sensitive to smoke, so I called Guest Services every time I noticed him out there, and I wanted to enjoy my balcony without the awful smell.

They sent housekeeping each time, but it took 5-10 minutes for them to arrive, so he managed to evade them for the first few times. Eventually they just ended up talking to him, when he admitted he had been smoking out there, but he thought it was okay since he stopped whenever he heard someone in the balcony beside him.

I  was very happy with how Seabourn handled this awkward situation - keeping me informed of what they were doing, but also making it clear to this idiot that he needs to smoke in a designated area only.

It ended up being another fantastic cruise with Seabourn - hopefully you don't have this sort of neighbour on your cruise, but be reassured that Seabourn will help you if you do!

I gotta tell you...  My family (13 of us) have 3 cruises booked 2021/22 and I am INSULTED by Royal.  All my emails to them they blamed the CDC, which we knew never made sense.  Now I am finding out they are admitting to others that this was a Board decision.

I believe my family has decided that we are going to take our money (and our mixed vaccines) and book elsewhere.  My parents are diamond plus but to alienate Canadians like this.  Canadians who did the right thing...  On top of the fact that all scientific evidence clearly points to the fact that we are just as protected from covid, maybe even more protected...

I completely agree with the above! Spend your money where it will be appreciated.

I'm considering where in Canada I have not been before - we have a huge and beautiful country - so my initial trips when I'm comfortable with travel again will not need my passport (or any worry about my AZ/Pfizer mixed dose vaccination status)....😁

What I have done in the past is to take a photo of the filled in Referral Coupon then email it to Seabourn Then post the original

Usually hear back from Seabourn in a couple of days approving the coupon which would be well and truly before Seabourn would receive the original coupon by post from New Zealand

Maybe this way would be any of help for you

Thank you, this is super helpful! (for me & others)

  8. I was on the Grand and didn't even try getting a table for myself because it was always really crowded. In fact, I sometimes had to be given a pager to wait for any kind of opening if I wasn't there right at 5:30 (but I think that overcrowding might have been specific to the Grand).

FYI, I had a similar experience on the Grand last year - very few tables for 2 for Anytime Dining, and the room was pretty well packed every evening. I tried to call right at 8am for a reservation - they would not do one for that table size (tried a few times, with no success). In order to dine alone, I had to join the dining room line by about 4:30pm for a 5pm dinner!

  9. I have purchased a lot of clothing from the Travel Smith website but only when it was on sale.

I have worn all of it for years, both at work and while travelling, and their quality/"washability" is wonderful.

Regular pricing is too high for me (agree with others above!) but if you can catch one of their many sales, I would highly recommend them.

  10. Not sure if this suggestion will help or not - I cruise solo out of Ft Lauderdale & Miami ports regularly, and always fly in at least a day early to shop.

If cruising out of Miami, I always stay at the Courtyard Miami at Dolphin Mall - it's literally in the parking lot of the mall.

If cruising out of FtL, I always stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton Sunrise - it's across the street from the parking lot of the mall.

For both, I take a taxi airport > hotel & hotel > port.

Whatever you decide, enjoy the cruise!!!

  11. I'm just a "smidge" younger than you, with all of my solo cruises on mainstream lines. However, I was on Seabourn over Christmas/New Years (not solo), and would not hesitate to go solo on them in the future - it was AMAZING!!!

We met a number of middle-aged solo ladies, and enjoyed both dinner and drinks with them - they were having a wonderful time. One of things they really enjoyed was the "hosted" tables - various staff members, including officers and entertainers, would invite both couples and solos to join them for dinner. This in particular I think is a great advantage for Seabourn and a solo passenger.

I was on Quest - but I think the other Seabourn ships do that as well?

The other thing a solo woman would appreciate is that the room attendants are all female - I have experienced (when travelling solo) some rather creepy room attendants (male) who made me feel a bit uncomfortable - this will not happen on Seabourn.

I haven't been on the other luxury lines yet, but all I can say is WOW regarding the stateroom (bathroom with tub was nicer/larger than mine at home), food & entertainment fabulous, and staff were all kind, friendly, and helpful.

Whatever you choose, enjoy it - just thought I would share my thoughts on this as I will definitely cruise Seabourn as a solo in the future.

  12. Just saw this posting, sounds like you had a great time.

It brought back a great memory for me - my 1st solo cruise was by accident, it was supposed to be with two other travelling companions who had to cancel, and I decided to go anyways.

It embarked on my birthday and I had a wonderful time - I thought I might be a bit lonely (especially celebrating my birthday without knowing anyone) but the Crown Princess crowd was super friendly, so all was well.

    Continued enjoyable travels to you..........

  13. I've done 2 solo cruises on Princess (Crown & Diamond) and they were both wonderful - would not hesitate to book another one!

Tried different dining options each time:

    - "My Time Dining" on Crown, where I met two super friendly ladies travelling together - we ended up meeting every night for dinner after that.

    - "Assigned Dining" on Diamond, sat with two sisters plus 3 other solo ladies, had a great time with all of them.

Enjoy your upcoming cruising, regardless of which line you choose.

  14. I did a solo back-to-back on Majesty OTS a couple of years ago and had a GREAT time - the shorter 3-4 days cruises seem to have a different feel to them, with people wanting to fit everything in over fewer days - not as relaxed a crowd as in the longer cruises, but still very enjoyable.

The only slight "hiccup" was on the 1st cruise - a rather grumpy Maitre'd in the MDR who did not want to assign me a table for 2 - he said he wanted to "save them for couples", which rather ticked me off for a moment, as I'm D+ on RCI and have always got the table size I wanted up until then.... no worries, I did not let it bother me for long..... (life is too short!). I enjoyed the 'Jammer and the upstairs deli instead. On the 2nd cruise, I was assigned the MDR table I wanted.

It was interesting that when we had the meeting for the B2B people, most of us were solo's - only one couple out of a group of about 10-12 people - the 2nd cruise was super busy because of meeting everyone at that meeting, many meals, drinks, and shows together!

  15. FYI - WestJet also charges for choosing your seats in advance, or at least they wanted to for my Orlando flight in April this year...

I can't remember how much, as I did not pay it - was able to get a decent aisle seat checking in 24 hours in advance, without an extra fee.
