They supposedly installed new "super" HEPA(?) filters on all the ships.  You could have a C-19 +ve pax next door and not be aware - and them not aware if asymptomatic.

HEPA filter are only in the Medical center. From Princess website...

How have you improved the onboard HVAC system?

Where possible, we’ve increased outside air to the maximum practical level for each HVAC unit.

HVAC units have been upgraded with F7 (MERV 13) filters, and some units also have the latest generation ultraviolet light (UVC/UVGI) treatment systems to facilitate high quality recirculated air, where possible within design limitations.

The Medical Center has HEPA filtration and is maintained under negative pressure, which means the ventilation system removes more air than it allows into the room.

Difficult to comment until the new rules are announced.  Currently the entry requirements are no different than many other countries, which Princess seems to be handling nicely.

The new rules have been announced..... click on the links.  Second one is the actual document that was released a few days ago.

Transport Canada Lays Out Rules for Cruise Ships, Requires Passengers And Crew To Be Vaccinated (cruisecritic.com)

Canada’s cruise ship instructional reference tool

No ship is sailing with 100% vaccination rate from the US. The CDC allows for a small percentage to have medical or religious exemptions. Most ships....Princess is one of them...that has chosen to follow the CDC guidance of being a highly vaccinated ship. However highly vaccinated is not 100% vaccinated. So they would not be allowed to port in Canada based on the current Canadian guidelines.  It is also against Florida law for any ship to sail requiring passengers to be 100% vaccinated.

    Hi Ombud,

I just like to tell you don’t go on a cruise with out Insurance. I don’t care who you purchased it from. My wife got sick on a cruise in 2014 on the Emerald Princess. From the time she got sick on the ship until we got home the cost was a little over $10,000. dollars.

It was a good thing we had insurance. Just one other thing if your out of the USA and have Medicaid your NOT covered.

We were in the Caribbean and had to get off the ship in Grenada. That’s another story OMG don’t get sick in Grenada!!!!!

    Tony

Medicaid? Should you be cruising if you have Medicaid? Except in rare instances Medicaid is for those in poverty level.

All the princesses balconies are covered especially on the royal class ships including the sky

We’ve been on both the Royal and the Regal multiple times and know those balconies are covered but I’ve been reading people’s postings that have been on the Sky and all of them are saying that the balconies on Emerald deck are totally exposed. That’s what I’m trying to figure out.

Look for the tall guy under 60. There are fewer of folks like me on board. I'm planning on going to both book club discussions.

A fun evening. I went to the martini demo in the atrium. This time, I decided to try to throw away my dignity and dance and shake to get one of the drinks. It was tasty: a chocolanut martini (or something like that), with vodka, crème de cacao and Fra Angelico. I enjoyed it with two couples from our table who were enjoying wine at Vines. It's hard to see the liquid in the martini glass in the photo.

Speaking of wine, we received our invitation to the Grapevine Wine Tasting. It's October 4 at 3 p.m. We might go or not, depending on what else is going on that afternoon.

I posted the dinner menu below. I had the mushroom tart, appetizer portion of the pasta, prime rib, and black forest cake. Everything was very good.

Tonight's entertainment was excellent. Rebecca Lisewski presented a show featuring the songs of Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand. She's great. Afterward we went to hear the comedian Tom Drake in Explorers. He's one of the best comedians we've ever heard on a ship.

The ship is still rocking and rolling. When I was walking on the Promenade Deck, I felt like I was going uphill half the time and downhill the other half. Add that to the side to side motion and it was difficult at times. There's talk on board about possibly missing Ponta Delgada in the Azores due to Hurricane Lorenzo. Whatever the captain and Princess decide is fine with us.

The internet is going very slowly tonight. My speed test shows an upload speed of 0.13 Mbps. At least we gain an hour back tonight.

I think that it is more than a possibility that you’ll miss the stop in the Azores.  They are expected to take a direct hit from the hurricane as reported on the news just now.

What happens if your flight is late, and you miss the ship - what is the procedure if the next port is Hilo, Hawaii 5 days later?  Are you flown to Hawaii, put up in a hotel for 5 nights, and provided food?

With EZ air you are guaranteed to get to the next acceptable port at no additional cost. Your travel insurance or YOU will pay for your hotel accommodations and food.

    Cheated?How?

People either bought the card or received them under the pretense of being able to use the card until the punches were used up (Princess's rule) & then Princess decides to change their rule & cancel all cards as of a certain date.

    That's called cheating the public.

If they were going to renege on the cards rules they should at least have given the public the opportunity to sell back the cards.

Even an exchange for a setup of some cans of soda would have been fair, rather than just stealing the value.

Cheated by selling the cards on eBay so that someone could purchase it at a very reduced rate some of which were counterfeit cards but looked exactly like the real ones.

I believe they did add that feature when they updated it for the Medallion system.

We were on the Crown on her TA in fall 2018 and she didn’t have it then but know they just added the Medallion system. We  like the on demand so am happy to hear it’s been added.  We will be on her again this fall

  9. We just did the Norwegian Fjords in early July on the Sapphire. It was a fantastic itinerary and it was one of our favorite cruises. Do not hesitate to book the itinerary.

We were most recently on the Crown in the fall of 2018 for a Transatlantic Crossing. The ship is in good shape. We thought the crew excellent. Food is subjective but we had no complaints. Crown Grill was top notch on the ship. We are sailing again on the Crown this fall in the Caribbean. You would not be disappointed in either the ship or the itinerary!

See you on board!!!!  We've already looked into Rome hotels and making plans to visit Positano from Genoa.  Yes, we are huge planners.  Lots to do in the next 814 days...…….

Positano, Italy is about 470 miles from Genoa. Not something you could do on a stop from Genoa.  Did you mean Portofino?

Just a suggestion - following the conversation with my Princess reservation representative today, who also seemed at a loss as to why so many cabins appeared "blocked out", she thought that possibly some could be released tomorrow? Worth a try I guess, I will be looking myself as had to book cabins that were not my first choice today.

Albeit I am Elite and welcome the perk of having "first choice" I can also appreciate that my early booking advantage should not preclude others from booking their chosen voyages. However, as those "blocked out" cabins look to be the better ones, it would seem rather a less than logical formula.

The reason that cabins are "blocked out" is that Princess has many ways that a cruise can be booked. So depending on how you book a cruse...say for instance a 7 day...14 day...21 day or with a Transatlantic...the Transatlantic and the first cruise after.....will determine which cabins are open for the sailing you are looking at. We are looking at a 21 day transatlantic and the cabin we want is "blocked out".  However, if we look at the 14 day Transatlantic and the 7 day after we can get the cabin we want by booking as 2 cruises. Booking as one 21 day we can not get that same cabin. It's crazy if you ask me.

Your Princess representative should have know this. This has been the standard practice for several years.

There was a terrorist bomb attack in Kusadasi in 2005 when a mini bus carrying locals and tourists to Ladies Beach exploded and that is why for a number of years cruise companies stopped calling there.

That can’t be entirely true or the only reason ships stoppedgoing there for a while.  We were there twice  AFTER 2005 on a Princess ship several years apart.

I just checked the Princess website and it looks like the 2019/2020 Cruise Atlas is available.  I looked at it online but did not go beyond the cover as it was taking much too long to download on my computer.

Has anyone received a hard copy?  I filled out a request form for one (we are Elite) but am wondering if they no longer mail them automatically.

Does anyone have any inside info about the 2019/2020 Cruise Atlas?

We received ours several months ago.
