We have not booked hotel rooms for such a large group but we have booked an apartment (there were 5 in our group). Have you considered an apartment?

Thanks for responding! I've never  booked an apartment. How do you go about booking that? Thanks for your help!

  2. Yes the UBP (Ultimate Beverage Package) is a beverage package.

You are in a full suite - the UBP is complimentary "BUT" there will be a gratuity charge.

Other complimentary adds are the Specialty Dining Package (SDP) Free Wi-Fi and Shore Excursion credits

This is exciting news! They mentioned the free gratuity, port excursion credit, and specialty dining. Didn't know about UBP or wifi. Not sure if that will make up for the lack of Diet Coke though...

  3. Hello-trying to decide on a cabin-but have a few questions. Are their any cabins that come with a bathtub other than concierge? We normally sail on Disney ships in an ocean view on deck 2. Would we have a similar lack of motion on deck 4 on POA? Can anyone recommend a specific cabin? Thanks!

  4. Or, of course, you can buy a new Volvo for European delivery (around 6% savings over US) and they'll throw in two free round trip tickets to Gothenburg. Fly to Sweden, pick up the car, drive it for a weekend, then drop it and take the train down to Copenhagen. The car will be shipped to your nearest Volvo dealer (around 4-5 weeks) while you cruise. Then after the cruise fly back home on the return portion of the ticket.

Nice car, mini road trip in Europe, free flights and you're money ahead.

Of course, you'd need to be shopping for a new car in the first place, or find someone who could buy it from you (cheaper than new) when you get it.

Love this idea-but really puts the trip out of range-lol!! Will save this thought when my kids graduate-new car and free trip!!

  5. We're researching our options for our June 2015 cruise from Copenhagen. I had hoped to fly Turkish Air again( we flew them this year to VCE and really enjoyed their inflight service) from Houston for around $800 but their price is pretty close to other carriers-coming in around $1200. Air Canada has flights around $1400-$1500 from MSY. Not all of the other carriers have released prices-but pricing in May still seems high-$1400-$1500.

My husband likes the Iceland Air stopover $942 from JFK or $1053 from Orlando-but we would need flights from MSY to these locations making the pricing even with flights from MSY-and hotels in Reykjavik seem to be pretty $$$.

Any thoughts on the above or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

  6. We have an over night stay in Istanbul before we fly out to Venice around 8:00 am. I am trying to find out if we will be able to pick up our bags when we land at IST or if they will be tagged all the way to Venice? I have called a few times but no one in their call center seems to know...thanks!

  7. Sorry-one more question (hopefully). I have been corresponding with a travel agency in Istanbul about tours. The agent there has offered to book our air as she said it can be less expensive if booked through a Turkish agency than through the website. Any dangers booking this way? Thanks!

  8. I think we're going to book-but have a few questions:

    1. Our flight arrives in IST at 15:55 and departs the next day at 8:15 so, we qualify for the free hotel-will they let us retrieve our checked bags to take to the hotel? Same thing on the return-arrive from Venice at 17:45 depart for Houston the next day at 13:05.

    2. We would like to explore the city-will we need a visa? Thanks

  9. Yes, very true about the free hotels. If you have a "forced" layover, ie there's no other flight leaving that day then you get free lodging! Should be ample time to pop into Istanbul to see some stuff.

I flew TK last year from Washington-IAD to Istanbul-IST in economy and was very pleased. Their service was excellent! I'll try to find and upload a few pictures of the cabin....

EDIT: Uploaded a few here: http://www.weekendblitz.com/turkish-air-photos/

Wow-those are great! Thanks! Which menu did you select-there are too many to choose from...

  10. Just wondering if anyone has recent experience flying with Turkish Air. We would save quite a bit of $$- but would have a 4 hour drive to Houston with layovers in Istanbul both ways. The agent I spoke with said due to the length of the layovers we would be provided with a free hotel room at the airport. Is the process fairly easy or not worth the trouble? Thanks
