I have one big concern, though.  What if the luggage doesn't make it to the ship in Venice?  Have any of you had experience with shipping to Venice?  Or with lost luggage?

Not to Venice, but I have used Luggage Forward 3 times. In all cases they gave tracking numbers, and the luggage reached the port several days before sailing. The port agents store the luggage until the day of sailing. Very slick operation.

  2. I just received an email extending cruise final payment and/or cancellation dates:

    IMPORTANT FINAL PAYMENT EXTENSION

Dear Valued Guests and Travel Advisors,

On behalf of your entire Oceania Cruises family, I hope you are doing well and that you are looking forward to your upcoming Oceania Cruises voyage. We know what a great deal of planning goes into a vacation and we are also acutely aware that travelers have many more concerns than they did in the past.

In order to provide you with an extra measure of flexibility and peace of mind, we are amending the final payment due date for all cruises departing through October 31, 2021 to 60 days prior to departure. Additionally, cancellation penalties will not start until the new final payment deadline, at 60 days prior to departure.

Should you have any questions regarding payment or any facet of your Oceania Cruises voyage, please do not hesitate to contact us.

    Warmest regards,

    Carlos E. Ortega

I agree. Can't say anything about ship maintenance and loyalty program, but I do not particularly like the smaller O ships, loved the Riviera. I would sail with both lines again for the itinerary.

That is exactly how I feel. I would not hesitate to book either cruise line if the itinerary was what I wanted. There are differences, but nothing negative enough to spoil my enjoyment.

  4. We took the round trip Miami to the Amazon a couple years ago. We enjoyed the cultural experiences very much, and did not go specifically for scenery or wildlife. The highlight was a tour we arranged with "Tours by Locals" in Manaus which was probably the best shore excursion we have ever taken.

The link must have worked as I got a confirmation of cancellation and also the cruise is now missing from my Future Cruises.   It will be interesting to see how long the refunded deposit takes.

Similar here. I asked about my refund and they said a credit was posted to my card the day after cancellation. However, that credit has not yet appeared on my credit card .

.As for building a new ship to replace the QM2, first off, regardless of what the price of oil is, the cruise lines realize there is a very limited demand for a ship that could do in excess of 24 knots, with it's attendant capital cost in power and propulsion equipment, and in operating cost for fuel.

But it sure was fun sailing at 31+ knots on the QE2!

I just  wonder  how  the ship's personnel could know the  man had Covid  since they did not have the tests onboard ?

Maybe spraying the cabins  was precautionary ..just in case ?

They also could not have known enough for the captain to announce that the airlifted passenger definitely was not infected. He did so.

Yes, this.  I would love this post to stay on topic for refunds such as "I cancelled March 5 and I got my refund on...."

Oceania cancelled and aborted my cruise on Riviera 11 March. They offered either a 150% cruise credit or 100% refund. Well, no refund nor even any correspondence to get this refunded. I have sent inquiries via the web site. In most cases I get a computer generated response that "we will make every effort to respond in a timely manner." Then nothing further. I plan to get my credit card company involved next week.

(BTW, it was one passenger  over TWO months ago on our Riviera cruise who was helicoptered off the ship to a hospital in Puerto Rico on March 9.  Testing there determined he had COVID-19.)

While the captain assured us that the passenger did NOT have covid-19. The coverup was already starting.
