  1. I understand that there is a shuttle from Ward Cove to Ketchikan.  How often does it run and is there a cost?  We're taking a private excursion that starts and ends at the dock in Ward Cove.  We'd like to be dropped off in town.  Is it easy to take the ship's shuttle back to Ward Cove?  Thanks.

  2. My wife and I have 2 specialty restaurant meals each on our upcoming Alaskan cruise.  This is our first Norwegian cruise.  I could not find any information on exactly what was included at Cagney's.  On Chat, an agent told me that each meal included one appetizer, one entree and one dessert.  When I asked about sides, he said that if a side was not included in the entree description, it would be at extra cost.  It seemed strange that we'd have to pay extra for a side item.  I've gotten bad answers before from chat agents.  Is this true? Thanks.

  3. I reached out to our agent when I saw the inconsistency.  Here's how he replied:

I have spoken to Carnival and read them what the Bermuda government’s website currently says, but they still did tell me that a Covid-19 test would be required.

I read them word for word what the Bermudian government’s policy currently is but they told me that if a policy was still listed on Carnival’s website, that would be the policy that they would adhere to.

As this is the case, although Bermuda does not require a Covid-19 test anymore I would recommend taking one before your cruise as Carnival staff are still adhering to what their website states.

I would also recommend checking back with Carnival’s website again soon as I do suspect that they may update their policy to match the Bermudian government’s website soon and once this change is made their employees will also adhere to the new rules.

Basically, Carnival is saying that they don't care what the Bermuda government says, they won't admit that their policy is wrong.  Hopefully, the Carnival folks will wake up before we leave.

  4. We'll be in Cozumel on the Celebrity Infinite on August 31.  It looks like there will be 7 ships in port.  That's a lot of people.  We've been to Cozumel a few times, so we're looking for just a beach day.  I'm guessing that the beaches on the East side, farther away from port won't be as busy as those closer.  Is Playa Chen Rio a good choice?  Any info you can share would be appreciated.

  5. I ordered my $500 card this morning.  This is the third time I've purchased with a bonus card.  The first two times I didn't receive the bonus digital cards.  I waited a month and finally emailed customer relations.  In each case, I got the bonus cards a couple of days later.  This morning, I got the bonus cards in about 5 minutes after the purchase of the plastic ones.  Now, I'm just waiting for the plastic one in the mail.

  6. I think one of the problems with self-service buffets is the handling of the serving utensils.  Some of the buffet restaurants here are open, but they either provide diners with disposable gloves or the staff serves the food.

  7. We have a group of 8 booked on the Star Princess from LA on November 6.  We're very interested in the Nutridge Luau while on O'ahu.  It doesn't seem to have the huge crowds like the others.  Has anyone done this and how did you get from the pier to Nutridge?  The ship doesn't leave until 11pm.  I've only seen transportation options from hotels.  Thanks.

We have stayed several times at the AC Irla in Barcelona.  It's a bit out of the way, but in a lovely residential area, which we prefer.  It's also close to some excellent restaurants.

Our transatlantic cruise ends in Barcelona on May 18 and we're spending 2 nights at the AC Irla.  We have 4 rooms for the 8 in our group.  When we disembark, we have a full day tour with Barcelona Day Tours and they will drop us off at the hotel.  We plan on doing the Hop On/Hop Off bus on the 19th.  You mentioned "excellent restaurants".  Any recommendations for a dinner spot on the 18th and breakfast on the 19th?  We're going to a Flamenco dinner and show on the 19th.  Thanks.

  9. Thanks, Everyone for your suggestions.  I was mainly curious.  A bank seems like the best bet.  I live in a small town and bank locally at a credit union.  They don't offer currency exchanges.  One local bank will get Euros for a $20 fee, which seems high.  Another only offers the service to their account holders for $7.50.  I did find that my mother's bank (TD Bank), not too far away, offers the service for a $7.50 fee and will buy back any leftovers.  Since I'm listed on her account, I'm all set.  If I run out of cash, I'll use a local ATM.

  10. There are 4 couples in our group taking the Emerald Princess transatlantic in May.  We will stay a couple of nights in Barcelona at the end.  We have 4 rooms booked at the AC Hotel Irla.  We've never been to Barcelona before, so I don't know if that's a good choice or not.  When we disembark, we have a full day tour with Barcelona Day Tours and they will drop us off at the hotel.  We booked this hotel because it looked close to the HOHO bus route, our next-day plan.  Is this a good choice?  Are there any restaurants within walking distance for breakfast and dinner?  Anything else nearby?  My brother works for Marriott, so we tend to stay at those.  Thanks for your help.

  11. We cruised on the Regal Princess in January. Around the jogging (walking in our case) track there were several stations with exercise equipment. We had never seen this on any other ships. Do any other ships have this same setup?

  12. There are a lot of beaches on both the French and Dutch sides of the island. Topless bathing is permitted on all French beaches, including Orient Beach. If you find nudity and topless women bothersome, you might want to try another beach on the Dutch side.

  13. We've taken wine on board and kept it on ice in our cabin. The room steward always keeps the ice bucket full. The steward is always willing since he (or she) is working for a better tip. You can pick up glasses at any of the bars. Just ask for red, or white, wine glasses. Fill the glasses in your room and take them to any of the public areas. We've never taken them to a restaurant, though.

  14. Just noticed you are from Pawleys Island. We lived there 8 years and still visit several times a year. We lived in Heritage. Have fun on your cruise. We love the Ruby.

We're originally from this area. When I retire, we moved back after a 27 year absence. We love it!! I'm sure we'll enjoy the cruise. Enjoy your next visit to Pawleys.
