I don't think I have ever heard Doris Day on P&O, although Move over Darling was quite good, but maybe not for dancing, and only the odd Elvis track.

However if Pulse or the DJ wants to fill the dancefloor, then a selection of songs from the best of the 60s 70s and 80s always proves the best option.

We were on the cruise before Andy and saw Pulse twice in our 5 day cruise. On the last night they had the dance floor packed and if i remember rightly it was either a 60's/70's or 70's/80's. They really were fab

We had an aft-facing Club Balcony cabin on the NCL Jade when we did our 38-day Athens to Cape Town by way of Dubai cruise and had an awesome time (see Live From thread below) and really enjoyed the aft views. We also have an aft-facing Balcony cabin booked on the NCL Star in 2025 for our Longyearbyen B2B cruise. Both of these smaller NCL ships (around 2200 passengers) are more geared for longer cruises. So no waterslides or anything like that. Just boring “old people” stuff to do. 😂

That’s where I remember your name from! We did The Cape Town to Dubai stint just after you, and doing BA to LA in March! 😂

Thank you for your review, it all sounds very promising, sounds like we would like it. Were the entertainment and shows good?

I have subscribed to their emails/ brochures to see what’s on offer there.

Going to Warners Nidd Hall on 20 Dec, taking the in-laws, they haven’t done a Warners break before.

We have done Nidd Hall twice this year and found it lovely! Food was good both in the buffet and other dining room. Entertainment good. We were in a premium room both times which were great. Hope you have settled in and really enjoying your stay at Nidd. Go into Harrogate, lovely place.

Having just come off Iona we found if you went to the club about five minutes before the show was due to start there was always space to sit even if we were not booked. Not too sure how easy it will be on Arvia though now they have Harrison playing in the 710 as word is out about how good he is. Presumably more tables have been added to the club for the demand as they did on Iona.

Harrison is the best 710 guy on all the 4 Iona cruises we've been on! We're on Arvia in 3 weeks, so hope he's still on!!

  5. We've stayed in LB cabin on Iona which was fabulous! Booked in LC on Arvia soon and plan to book another LB on Iona for next year! Love the window seats. Our personal preference is to have the bed by the wardrobe as it enables more space for us to sit and play cards, read etc with one sat on sofa and one on the window seat.

Finally, if you want proper well known musicals, the larger Royal Caribbean ships each have a different resident musical on board. Anthem has We Will Rock You and it lasts about 90 minutes.

For a few years now when anyone asks me which is my favourite cruise line I'd always reply "I'd like a pick 'n mix please!"

1 - Entertainment of the big Royal Caribbean ships with shows such as We will rock you (Brian May was actually boarding as we were, to watch the show when Anthem first launched!) Awesome seeing Mamma Mia, Grease etc without paying West End prices!

2 - Food of Carnival cruise lines, their included dining options of Guy's burgers, Pig and Anchor, Mongolian Wok, Cucina for lunch although the birth of Iona is a good competitor with the likes of Olive Grove and the Quays.

3 - And finally, P&O, with their onboard prices in pounds the value is great! 😄

Yes, great to see that very rare creature on this board - a poster with a glass half full approach to life.   Enjoy your cruise - I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time.

I'm not a glass half full nor a glass half empty person... I'm just flipping thankful for having a glass!! 😍

Nice that you don't have to take malaria meds.  Both my husband and I missed our morning drive today bc we couldn't be away from the bathroom!   No one else at the camp has any GI symptoms....we think it may be a side effect of the malaria meds.   Thankfully we have Imodium.

    Oh no!! How rubbish!

We chose Pilanesburg due to its malaria-free status as I didn't want to take meds if I didn't have to due to previous adverse reactions to other different meds.

Your lodge looks fab! We've never been to this area before and never cruised NCL though many cruises on other lines.

  9. After many cruises over many years I never even knew about additional cruise cover beyond the standard cover for repatriation, emergencies etc. When Covid hit I was drawn in by the 'isolation in cabin benefits' so paid the additional £40 premium for us both. We've now used it twice - unable to dock in Madeira last year, and in June cancellation of ports in the fjords on Iona (a frequent occurrence it seems?!) Yes I'm impressed with Nationwide insurance, the £600 I received notification today about is very welcome!

  10. Book lunch at the Olive a couple of times for the week as soon as you get on!

Go to the 710 club in the first couple of nights before everyone else realises how good it is and queues emerge!! 🥂

The Limelight club is a great place to book for your first night providing the entertainment is to your taste! You then know where you're eating, at what time, and no need to go looking for entertainment! Such a relaxing first evening after the busyness of travelling and boarding!
