  1. . . . but I wouldn't be surprised if something like this became the industry standard. If people live in gated communities, they want to duplicate that experience on cruises as well.

Of course we have never cruised Costa. But we'll spend the month of November on the Costa Victoria in SEAsia.

NCL is already doing this. certain areas of the ship are for the upper-end cabins only. cunard as well. of course, this is just a return to the class system that used to be standard.

i like the new classic/premium categorization. i want full room service, mainly. if i have to pay a bit more i'm willing to.

  2. Hi, IMO

Even if Captain Albert haad been the Master on the power outage sailing, he would not have mentionned it in his blog.

Nothing to do with camouflage or dishonesty. Simply a matter of protocol; it is simply inappropriate to have open chats about such issues on a public blog. Same as he ( Capt Albert) has never talked about the propulsion issues plaguing his vessel on his blog;it would be improper IMO.

Thankfully, the power outage was only 2 hours long, and happend IN Seward, not at high seas....( unless I'm wrong).

She's merely on her way to SanDiego and FortLauderdale now.

    Cheers

not to mention it would be acknowledging there is a problem

I don't know what was done to make it happen, but the doors opened at a deck. I don't recall if the elevator and deck were flush to each other, or if there was a gap. But if there was, it wasn't much.

This was back in August, 2003. I sure recall the storm as if it were yesterday. It was a beaut. The sea breeched the water-tight doors on Upper Promenade and cascaded down the stairs in front of the stage like a waterfall. The show was interrupted, and canceled. BINGO was canceled the next day (so you know it was serious).

OMG. that's just this side of 'abandon ship'

  3. Thanks for the repsonses and pictures, very helpful indeed :)

Not sure I like the idea of people smoking in public places, so used to not having it anymore.

Thanks again, and I will create my own post in future

you should've done better research before booking. you couldn't have made a worse choice. costa is the most liberal line sailing today. smoking is not allowed everywhere, but it will be evident. couple that with the demographics costa caters too - there will be a higher percentage of smokers.

  4. Hi, we're booked on this cruise 22nd October. Only ever cruised with Azamara and Royal Carribean so not sure what to expect.

Does anyone have any feedback for this ship?

    Thanks

welcome to cruise critic. I haven't been on that ship but i would suggest you read a few of the threads here on the main page to familiarize yourself with costa. if you have specific questions - start a new thread. enjoy your cruise!

  5. I am going on my first ever cruise in October, on the Costa Fascinosa. I emailed Costa customer services to ask what was included in the all inclusive drinks package and was sent this document (attached); it seems a little different from the other version previously posted, as not a full menu with starred items, but just a list of what is included? Dont know if content is exactly the same but in a different format but thought Id share. I was also told you can purchase the all inclusive package before you travel (eg online) or on the ship; id previously read on forums that this package was only available to purchase prior to sailing?

seems to be pretty much the same. one thing that confuses me is the esspresso says 'decaf' next to it. soes that mean the caffinated is not included?

i wish they would let me buy the kids version, since i don't drink alcohol. maybe a call will be in order.

  6. As a SMOKER i hope you are not talking about me.

Do you not read the posts before making a comment, i stated where my info came from and that it was not policed.

The Host was also a heavy smoker and had no reason to intentionally mis-inform.

    I hope he was wrong.

I always smoke on the balcony anyway as i am used to it on other lines.

Trouble is smokers are easy targets at the moment, especially Tax and on most ships we have to pay for Balconies+.

Notice there has not been an outcry on Diesal fumes being linked to lung cancer, only heard one mention on the news in the UK.

    G

no, i wasn't talking about you and NO you didn't say who told you that was a new policy. you only said some 'host' said it wasn't policed. 'hosts' do not get to set corporate policy.

  7. Very odd.

I have a letter of guarantee from Costa stating no change of smoking policy for our cruise(s) Sept and Feb - I asked for this as in the past we were "stung" with Celebrity.

They had no problem in issuing me with this by email to my travel agent.

could it be a cabin steward perhaps just chancing his luck?

neither of the posters who reported about no smoking in cabins have come back to reveal their source. i suspect they are part of the fascist anti-smoking nanny movement.

  8. You forgot to mention that Captain Coward may have frozen on the bridge because of a brain seizure caused by:

A toxic chemical reaction to the "Super Musk" cologne he used to entice Domonica ;)

    OR

An allergic reaction to the shell fish he had at dinner

    OR

A sugar imbalance from the "Twinkies Supreme ala mode" they had for dessert

    OR

.............never mind, you get the picture. :D

no doubt captain chicken's defense team has discussed using each of these as a possible defense.

  9. Just off the MED and was told smoking is no longer allowed in the Cabin only on the Balcony.

The English host Adam who has now left said that it was not policed though.

Water is available to take ant time.

    g

told by whom? as far as i know, a 'host' is not allowed to set corporate policy. maybe that is why he is gone. i'll be cancelling if that is the case. it is not published on their website at this time:

"In the Theatres, Restaurants, Buffet Restaurant (indoor), corridors, halls, lifts and in the stairwells smoking is strictly forbidden.

There are reserved smoking areas in the lounges.

Pipes and cigars may only be smoked in designated areas.

For fire and safety reasons please remember to put cigarettes in the ashtrays provided and never throw cigarettes overboard"

Another reason for giving up cruising, if this is true:mad:

just got off the phone with jade in customer care. she checked with corporate and was told is is no change in the smoking policy and none is planned. :)

right now, we don't know the source. could be a troll. i have a call into costa, who is calling the home office for clarification. i am supposed to hear back from them today (wed 8/15).

  11. Thanks, I had read that bottles of water are no longer give out free before excursions but have to be purchased. Therefore we were planning on getting a bottle from the bar before hand as we have 'all inclusive drinks'.

    Thanks for your comments.

i'm pretty sure Blondie008 posted that in another thread. IIRC that poster said they would take bottles back to their cabin since the mini bar ones were not included in the all-inclusive.
