I can only speak about the HAL purchased cards (not the AARP ones mentioned).
Yes you can use these card to pay for cruise fare, as long as the cruise is priced in US dollars (my booking are done in Canadian dollars).

You are right in clarifying which card since this thread took a left turn re AARP.

I was asking about the original HAL gift card promotion that is currently available until Dec. 13.

    Thanks!

Can you hook your computer up to the TVs on the Island Princess with a HDMI cable?

This information may be more useful than some other responses. Search failed to yield a specific to Island Princess answer.

    "From a previous thread....

    1.    Connect your HDMI device to the HDMI port on the left side of the TV. Use the open HDMI above the ethernet port used by the the OceanView box.

    2.    Using the remote, launch one of the live TV channels. The bridge camera or the ship information channel usually work, but you may have to try one of the live TV channels (e.g. MSNBC).

    3.    Reach under the middle of the TV to find the on-TV directional jogger. Press in once to open the circular four-way menu, then toggle left and select the input selector. A menu will open on the right side of the TV. There should be a red dot next to "Live TV" (if the dot is next to HDMI, you didn't do step two correctly).

    4.    Toggle down to HDMI and select it. This should successfully switch the input to your HDMI device."

Turning off the TV when finished, reset it to the original input when turned back on."

Princess Alaska cruisers with Vancouver departure... any comments on this?

We sailed in June to Alaska out of Vancouver and yes we were required to first do ArrivCan flying into Vancouver and then again to board the ship. All in all it was pretty much a non-event after filling in the ArrivCan. It is tied into your passport so no one even requested ArrivCan since they already knew we were good to go.

  4. Could not agree more with the OP and Princess' procedures re covid, especially going through Canada.

    • Princess phone agents do not present correct and/or consistent information
    • Princess web site presents conflicting information in various sections regarding Covid procedures
    • We agree with many about why should we continue to book with Princess considering their sub standard support for their customers

Why did you not just look on the Princess website for the requirements? it is there for all to see.

ArriveCAN is no big deal although not well done. Download on your phone or go to the website and follow the link that they list https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/covid-vaccinated-travellers-entering-canada

Please make sure that when you click on the above link you also click on the embedded link for people going on cruises.

Here is a direct link for cruisers starting, ending, and/or stopping in Canada

    https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/cruise

It is really a shame that Princess does not include on their web site ALL the information from the Canadian web site regarding cruising!

"...You can always try a self test antigen to be sure."

Thanks for the suggestion, but nope, you can't be sure.

Both my wife's doctor and mine have advised us that your body can have viral shedding for up to 90-180 days after being diagnosed thus creating a false positive. Consequently neither a PCR nor antigen test is going to be an absolute accurate measurement of current infection.

This is specifically why Canada (but unfortunately not Princess) allows for this by not requiring either test to board a cruise ship provided you can prove you had Covid up to 180 days previous.

    https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/cruise

    Thanks

  7. Doesn't Canada allow you to enter if you had a Positive Test within the last 180 days if you are now asymptomatic?

    https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/cruise

"All travellers 5 years of age or older must have a COVID-19 test to board a cruise ship in Canada or to board a cruise ship that will dock in Canada at any point on the cruise. You must provide proof of one of the following accepted types of test results:...

...Previous positive molecular test result: you no longer have symptoms and provide proof of a positive molecular test taken at least 10 calendar days and no more than 180 calendar days before you board. Counting starts the day after your test."

Or does Princess choose to not take advantage of that portion of the Canadian laws regarding cruise ships??

Anyone have some experience with this section of Canadian law on a Princess Cruise?

  8. We know that you have to use the ArrivCan app to board any ship in Canada or any ship stopping in Canada.

For those who have already done this, my question is in regards to boarding the ship at the embarkation pier and the process that was used. I’m guessing that all you really needed to present was your Passport, your ArrivCan app, and your Medallion (or perhaps your Navigator app showing you should go to the green lane).

Is there any other documents or presentation that was done (like asking for Covid-19 vaccination cards, Covid test results, etc.)?

    Thanks,

  9. On the Canadian government website they list the following as being acceptable to board a cruise ship the is embarking and/or stopping anywhere in Canada.

All travellers 5 years of age or older must have a COVID-19 test to board a cruise ship in Canada or to board a cruise ship that will dock in Canada at any point on the cruise. You must provide proof of one of the following accepted types of test results...

...Previous positive molecular test result: you no longer have symptoms and provide proof of a positive molecular test taken at least 10 calendar days and no more than 180 calendar days before you board. Counting starts the day after your test.

Basically this would apply if you have had Covid over the previous 6 months and now might test as a false positive.

Looking for anyone to confirm who has boarded a Princess ship and used the above rule thus not needing to have either a PCR test or Antigen test immediately prior to boarding.

    Thanks,

I have AT&T and have used WiFi calling with an iPhone on several sailings successfully with all you caveats. It works on Princess. Also on Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, NCL, Holland America and Oceania........

Set it up at home and test it at home first though.

    Perfect!

    Thanks!!

  11. Wanting to find out if we can use WiFi calling while at sea on Princess without incurring additional charges ($$$).

    Here are the caveats;

    1. iPhone 12.
    2. AT&T is the home carrier for the phone.
    3. This is for WiFi Calling (voice, not data).
    4. Airplane mode on phone is activated (Cell service is off).
    5. WiFi on phone is turned on.
    6. Will be paying for Princess on board WiFi.
    7. Not interested in 3rd party apps (What's App, etc.) (Friends/relatives don't have and/or want those apps)
    8. Do not want to pay for Cellular at Sea

Anyone with a positive experience using Princess WiFi?

    Thanks,

  12. In a Neptune Suite on board the Koningsdam, is the hair dryer in the drawer (in the desk/vanity) located in front of a window? Is the hair dryer hard wired inside the drawer, and where is a mirror at the desk/vanity at that location. Seriously, I don't think anyone is expected to use the hair dryer without a mirror.😄

  13. 1 hour ago, Boytjie said:

Yes, there is a mirror at the desk.

There are outlets in the bathroom, usually for shavers but I assume hairdryers could be used too.

The desk appears to be located in front of a window. Is the mirror also in a drawer?

We have had many experiences that a hair dryer in a drawer is hard wired inside the drawer and cannot be relocated elsewhere. Is this the case or not the case in a Neptune Suite?

    Thanks,

There are 220V European 2-round pin outlets in your stateroom.  A hair dryer can be found in the drawer of your stateroom desk.  Most newer phones/tablets/laptops work on 110-220V so a multiple-port adapter port would be perfect.,

Anything that looks like a typical extension cord may be confiscated but small adapters are fine.

    Enjoy your cruise planning.

Is there also a mirror at the desk where the hair dryer is located? Or can you remove the hair dryer from the drawer and plug it into the bathroom where there is a lighted mirror?

    Thanks,
