Hi, David. #6060 seems perfect. Btw there are no #6061 on Journey because of the positions of the accessible cabins.

    Dawn 60???? Never!!!🫣😄

Hi Odd,  thanks for the reply and good to hear from you.  Time does fly!!  We are both retiring this year in March.

It was indeed the Quest that was mentioned in the cabin list but I was intrigued as to what the vent was and whether it was an issue near 6060 on Journey.  Hopefully not.

Hope you and Synnøve are well and hopefully see you both sometime in the near future.

  2. Hi we have cruised with Az a number of times.  I've booked a surprise cruise for my wife in September on Journey for her 60th.  Has anyone any experience of 6060 (cabin I specifically chose)?  I note on the spreadsheet that someone had an issue with the smell from a 'vent' in 6061 although it was a long while ago.  We usually sail on deck 7 or 8 so aren't entirely sure what the issue may be.

We also did one. Quest, Nice to Barcelona september 26.-29. 2015.

Yes you did,  and that was the one we were on!  I got my dates mixed up.  We had a drink with you and your wife on white night (David & Dawn from Scotland).  You were doing a B2B.

Here is the 4 night weekend cruise on Onward Sept 26th 2024

    IMG_9830.jpeg

We did a similar itinerary,  I think it was around 2016/17 and took our (adult) kids.  It started in Nice and finished in Barcelona.  It also went to Mahon (Menorca) instead of Toulon.  It was I think our 4th or 5th cruise with AZ at the time and I have to say I didnt notice a difference in demographic at all.  White night was also one of the best IMO.

  5. Thanks for the prompt replies folks.

One of the main reasons we like AZ is we dont like being herded,  and we did get that a bit on Galaxy which put us off the bigger ships once we found AZ.  We also didnt like the classism of cunard,  or the formal nights on any ship,  so this is primarily what we want to avoid.  We also like  AZ and smaller vessels that can get into ports that others cant.

Totally agree about the entertainment on board....it can vary from sublime to awful.  We've seen a cellist from Australia a few years ago who was breathtaking.  Then again we had a 'comedy pianist' as a resident (I wont name him) who was so, so bad.  He was binned eventually.  It varies greatly but the entertainment isnt that important to us. We cruise with friends from the US so we have less reliance with on board entertainment and we book for itineraries.

Like most of us,  we look firstly for itinerary, £ per night, cost to get there, on board cost thereafter.  We usually book veranda,  but it looks like there are some perks if you book a higher stateroom class on Edge?

Been all over the South China sea but not as far out as Australia,  so its on the hit list.  We liked the EDGE itinerary with a B2B with Solstice.  Stopover in Tokyo on way out.  David

  6. Hi everyone.  We've sailed Celebrity previously ........some time ago on Zenith and Galaxy,  but found Azamara and have stuck with them for over 12 years.  We have an upcoming Oceania cruise next week through the canal which will be a first with this line so given this is an R class ship it will be interesting to see what if any differences there are (inevitable).

For anyone who had cruised AZ,  can you give me some indication of what the new ships (Edge etc) are like?  Neither of us are then switched onto bigger vessels for a number of reasons so would need some convincing to 'jump ship'.

    We're looking at a B2B in Australia 2025.

    Thanks in advance.  David

  7. If there isnt a spare HDMI,  then it will have to be airplay.  It sounds like the TV might be pretty old if there are no spare ports,  so connectivity might be a problem as the TV hardware might just be too sketchy to keep up.  That said if you can see the title on the TV then youre half way there.

If the movie plays on the ipad,  but not the TV,  try looking for a button on the TV remote that will say source or similar.  Click on that and it will bring up a menu.  AV1,  AV2, etc.  Cycle through these as the movie plays on the ipad.  The only other thing I can suggest is speak to the 'I.T.'  crew member on board responsible for this.  They may have a fix.  Azamara has a 'connections' person who helps out with all thing relating to internet etc.   Im sure Oceania will as well. Good luck!  David

  8. Hi everyone,  as the title says we've completed a variety of cruises on a number of lines,  the last 6 or 7 having been with Azamara.  We've booked Insignia next summer as we love the R class ships.  A couple of questions on F&B if you don't mind.........

On AZ,  there is what's called the Mosaic Cafe which offers a selection of daily pastries, sandwiches etc.  We usually grab a few items,  a couple of drinks and chill on the veranda with a book before dinner.  Is there anything like this on Insignia?  I see there is afternoon tea every day,  but can you request this (or something like this) as a 'takeaway'?  We are very relaxed and the thought of getting changed out of shorts and flip flops to get a sandwich puts me off.

Alcoholic Drinks.  The basic beverage package says 'drinks served with meals in restaurants',  unless you upgrade to the top package which is then free pour.  Is this policy adhered to?  Can you get a drink from the daily selection next to the pool for instance?  On AZ you can get a cocktail, beer or whatever pretty much any time you want,  so just trying to draw some comparisons.

On the same subject...... the wine package.  How does that work?  You buy a minimum of 7 bottles which you can presumably request whenever suits.  I assume like other lines if you don't finish the bottle you can request it the following evening / day,  and is this only available with meals in restaurants?

    Many thanks.  David

Currently on the journey. Embarkation was a breeze. No lines.. just walked right on. However we came early. At 1:45. Even though our boarding cards said 3:00 lol! But we had a suite so that might have helped. We were in our room by 2:15.
we did the video monitored abbots labs emed test btw. No issues with that. All they cared about was the date of the test. We printed out the results.
Very few( but us) wearing masks. Very naive for this minute imho. I’ve had Covid recently but my husband didn’t get it from me. And we don’t want to spend time in quarantine! According to our friend with Covid that is traveling on the ship back to back she has to stay in the cabin for at least 6 days and maybe till she tests negative??? ( took me 14 days. And I had a mild case!)

our suite 6003 is lovely. Nice steward and butler. They helped us sort out a few room issues. Like no drawer in the desk for makeup etc. they brought two extra side tables which helps a lot.
Had room service dinner and breakfast. Lunch at the patio which is only open for lunch.
will have dinner at windows tonight.. taste of China. food is good.
we had a very nice cruise critic meeting yesterday with 12 attendees. Drinks and canapés were served and the assistant cruise director came to welcome us. Very nice group of people.
the destination celebration is tonight. A Slovenian band in the cabaret lounge. We have decided not to go. Nor to the captains welcome party tomorrow, too many people without masks in a closed environment.
Gorgeous day in Koper, Slovenia. Warm but not too bad. Charming little seaside town.
let me know if you have questions!

Hi Harrodsfan,  my son Chris and his new wife are on board with you now.  He is on your roll call.  Could you try and find out the hotel director (stand in) name?  They're having a little issue with the promotions on his booking and needs to escalate this as he's getting nowhere with guest services.   Many thanks.  David

In the Azamara Roll Calls, one contributor said that were talking to CS and was told a letter is coming out tonight.  Will see what it says....

Spoke to them today as I have convinced my son to go on his honeymoon in July!!  The CS person I spoke to said there would be comms issued this afternoon which I guess is in US time so will be tonight for us here in the UK.

  11. Thank you UKtog.  Very useful info and comparison.  We have american friends who have sailed viking,  but felt it was a little impersonal vs azamara.  Great tech on board, food was great but just that 'welcome home' was missing.

Like most of us, we've pretty much been living under a rock for the last 2 years. We managed three weeks in spain last sept, and a week in virgin gorda this month,  but thats been it (we both came back with Covid).  More hols planned but no cruises for the time being.  Thanks again for sharing.  David

  12. Hi everyone.  I would take the train into town. The Motorway (freeway) you use to get from Greenock into Glasgow can be a nightmare with congestion,  particularly after the airport.  One accident or breakdown causes havoc.

The HOHO is a good option as suggested,  and there is a Metro which essentially does a circle around the city.  Its a good and cheap way to get around and is safe.  http://www.spt.co.uk/

If you're into Art / Architecture there are some amazing galleries and buildings.  https://www.glasgowlife.org.uk/museums

    Check Tripadvisor for specific ratings.

Last bit of advice.  Bring a brolly!  Have a great trip.

8068, under Windows Cafe. Only negative comment of cabin chart was vibration from engines at aft. I would expect that possibility on any aft room, but this itinerary should not require higher sailing speeds.  Was on Celebrity ship last year under the Cafe and did hear some carts in the early morning and we can deal with that.

We were in 8070 a month ago,  and one night had to go at full speed all night to outrun a storm,  missing a port on the way.  Zero vibration.  A little early morning ‘set up’ noise from Windows cafe but nothing intrusive.  Have a great trip.  David

Me too as I have realised I am flying out from the BA lounge less London City (school girl booking error, check the lounges in future) so no access to a starter pack of mini cans this time.  Oh well, leaves room for Linomcello on the return

uktog,  there is a lounge at City you could use depending on your layover.  From recall I think its £35 pp.  It's situated landside at the Jet Centre about 5 min drive away and there is a free shuttle.  This isn't a good airport for a long layover if you're familiar with it as its cramped and the retail isn't that good, so not much to do.  We haven't used the lounge but a friend of mine said it was good.  Just an option for you if you plan to raid the fridge 🍸😉

I wanted to bring this thread back. I made some pretty robust comments about Pursuit. Currently on the ship again and it's chalk and cheese. Not sure what, but everything is so much more attentive and open. Like the Azamara I know. Having a great time and the food and service that goes with that I've had has been great.  Having a super time.

    Phil

Great to read this Phil,  and so glad you are feeling like a valued customer again and that the standards are back up there.  Ive been flat out since getting back but will review our recent South American trip this week.  Hope you have a lovely holiday.  Welcome home.  David

  16. Hi everyone.  We are just back yesterday after a couple of weeks onboard Pursuit.  Cabin was kept spotless, service in restaurants and bars top notch,  and there are lots of smiles and good mornings etc from the crew.

I did manage to speak to some senior staff (that we knew from quest and journey) and they all admitted that they did have many teething problems.  The initial crew plan apparently was to have a rough 50/50 split of new recruits and old hands from the other ships, however that didnt pan out.  The split was more like 80/20 (20% being the experienced AZ crew).  I didnt get a full explanation why this was,  but they did admit that this had a negative effect during the initial few months.

Whilst i have no doubt there were issues as reported, im pleased to say we didnt experience anything negative that was a fault of the cruise line or its crew.

Phil,  you can actually see these on the iPhone App,  so no need for paper at all.  David.

Edit - just noticed that the pass on the App says you must bring your original travel docs to the port.

  18. Hi Bonnie,  I wonder if this is something you could seek some clarity on?

According to the App,  and we understand that this is a WIP,   White Night is showing as our first night in Rio (Sunday 3rd March).  If you look at our Roll Call,  there are some people attending Carnival that night and will miss out.  It may be an oversight or a typo?

    Thanks.  David

On the contrary, I think specifics would be illustrative.

Nope cant agree with that all.  Calling individuals out on a public forum isn't a good idea.  The folks who are mentioned often have no way to retort or defend.  The facts as stated in previous posts that there was no F&B has to have been an influence.  I do think we all need to take a deep breath here.  AZ will be reading this with interest and will, as they usually do, act speedily to rectify. How does "parachuting Heike" in sort anything?  The Hotel Director on Pursuit is first class.

I'm genuinely sad to read about UKtog and ExcitedofHarpenden experiences.  If I need to know anything AZ,  I look to them for a guide/steer.

Knee jerk wont sort this tho. We leave in 2 weeks for Buenos Aires.   Will happily report back as we progress.  David

  20. Hi working to cruise.

You can check the official response by going to CDC atlanta in the US and the foreign office in the uk.  These are both up to date on entry requirements.

    https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/list/

    You could also search here.....

If you are in any doubt get the vaccination.  There was a recent case of a well known oncologist who didnt get vaccinated and died after being bitten.  You cant get this vaccine on NHS tho,  but worth the money IMO.  David
