  1. These off-airport locations are close to the cruise port and have shuttles to the cruise terminals:

    Hertz from Crown Plaza Hotel

    Avis from Pier 66

Budget on 17th in shopping center next to Renaissance Hotel

    Sixt further up 17th.

Thrifty/Dollar just out western port exit.

Thanks for the info will probably use one of the rental company you posted

  2. So after reading up countless of pages and website. I think i have narrowed down my choices.

If i decide on interchangable lens then it would be a6000

For pocketable im somewhat leaning towards canon g7 mkii other choices are sony hx90v or rx100 Canon since i have always been a canon guy. Picked both of this mainly for its zoom range. I think these cameras are priced around mid level range.

  3. A note on the A6000.

I have not replaced my P&S for travel since I moved to the Sony A6000. Though I have a fair selection of lenses for it, I still use the 16-50PZ kit lens fairly often. The 16-50 is very compact (it collapses when turned off) and though is doesn't have the quality of a bagful of $800 prime lenses, it is a solid performer and allows the A6000 to be carried in a jacket pocket.

We have this one printed at 24x36 on metal and I've never had someone say, "not bad for a kit lens"!p1556213187-5.jpg

I switched to the Sony mirrorless system after years of hauling around a DSLR (or SLR back in the day) and a bag of lenses. The weight savings coupled with no loss of quality (better in many cases) have made me a happy traveller.

There is a thread dedicated to tips and tricks with the A6000 here:

Many of the regular forum members have posted some good stuff in answering many questions.

Good luck with your choice...it's hard with so many great cameras available these days.

Wow stunning photos! Any post processing done to it? Also are these shot with the 16-50 kit lens?

  4. Hey folks,

We just got back from a cruise and i think its time to upgrade our "vacation" camera. Previously we would take our Canon T1i and few lens when we go on holidays or cruise, well over time that got annoying lugging it around. So past few years we ended up just taking our waterproof Panasonic Lumix dmc-ts3 12.1mp. It was good for portability but picture quality was ok. Not the best not the worst.

So now wanting to upgrade our camera. Can anyone suggest a good point and shoot. Waterproof or not. Just looking for something that takes good low light shots nice to carry around for travels. Or should i got mirrorless like sony a6000?

    Thanks in advance

  5. Having cruised a number of times with Disney and RCL and also have a couple more booked (Wonder and Oasis!) We decided to try NCL .........Now although it's hard to put a finger on what it's missing it is definitely missing something! The foods not AMAZING!!!! The ambience is average and the staff are adequate! I shall stay with Disney and RCL in future as they are guaranteed AMAZING!!! Albeit in different ways!!!! We met a couple who had cruised 15+ times with NCL and loved it but wouldn't try the

competition.......sad as they are missing out on something very special!

Thanks for your input. But i think we will stick with RCL and Princess. Disney if price is right(which never happens). Still have to gice Celebrity a try one day.

  6. Hi everyone,

Just trying to book car rental for FLL. We mainly use National car rental. Would anyone know if they offer shuttle service from airport to port ( pre cruise ) and back when getting off the ship ( post cruise ) ? Any help would be much appreciated. TIA

  7. actually alot of people have asked me that, it would be nice but i think i will stick with being a cruise passenger taking vacation pictures (hobby) and writing trip reports.

you guys find the ship photographer annoying, but everytime i bump into them when i have my camera and equipment with me. they back away.

the equipment they use are pretty basic nikon dslr camera with kit lens, and they shoot in jpeg format print them to and sell them. no time to post process or at least from what i've seen, some of the pictures are just loaded with dust particles on the camera sensor too.

  8. Ok Mr. Jdm. Your pictures pushed me to go out and get myself a Canon t3i for my Oasis trip in August. Can you teach me how to use it?? LOL

woha!! don't know how exactly you teach someone, but my suggestion just start practicing and shooting from now till you sailaway. 56 days right? believe me i still take some blurry shots, since for me everything is a trial and error. read up on the photo section in this forum. watch youtube video. browse thru flicker get ideas on how to compose shots and styles... but mainly all the work is out of the computer, post processing. for me a week on a cruise and a week of computer editing. since you will be having a t3i. shoot in RAW format not jpeg. then upload it on photoshop or lightroom and mess around with the settings until you get the look you like.

  9. What a great review. Loved the food pictures most & then all the rest:p

From your pictures I got an idea of the scale of the Oasis - its scary big! What did you think of the crowds?

crowds were never an issue. only time we noticed it big time was embarkation day. it was like a zoo. but day 2 and on it slowly died down, dont really see that 6,000 passanger feel thru out the week.

Said it before and I'll say it again; your pictures are AMAZING!!!!!!!!! I can't stop staring at those pictures from Cozumel. If you haven't been there before, you'd think that they're fake, but they are just amazing!

thank you, too bad when we were in Cozumel it was a bit cloudy. I was hopping for a sunny day then the water will be 10x more inviting :D
