  1. Hi there. We will be going to Ensenada in October and will have our 8 and 3 year old with us. Suggestions? Is there a nice beach near by?

Thank you, kindly, in advance. :)

Hello! There is a beach within a quick cab ride away, it's clean, fun for looking at seashells. Playa Hermosa. I usually use a private tour guide. On Facebook if you look up Ensenada Tour Guide, David is the guy I use and he's a great guide. We went for fish tacos and churros afterward.

  2. Just used the very last of my eucalyptus body lotion from my last cruise. It was more than three years old, but still smelled good, and smelled like Princess to me. I will really miss it now that its gone, and cannot be replaced. Funny how we associate "things".

I'm so glad I'm not the only one! I actually still have a bit left. My friend who introduced me to cruising in 2009 actually passed away a few years later. That smell makes me think of how much I love cruising and reminds me of my first cruise that was on princess. Does anyone know who the manufacturer was of it? I read elemis..but whats the product number, or is it just something similar?

  3. Thanks so much everyone for the advice!

We decided to not take the upsell. For that price we can book another little 4 day in Feb in an oceanview cabin.

I will one day try a suite, I wish it was on a 7 day...that jetted tub is VERY TEMPTING!! LOL may be more tempted if it was a longer cruise.

This was the first upsell I have been offered. I agree with everyone that it seems more and more cruisers I speak to they are receiving these type of offers.

  4. $500 more for 4 days? No way. Save your money. ;)

lol the price posted on the website now for the 4 day is showing $1200 per person! Crazy...If it was $249 for the two of us I would book in a heartbeat. What are the chances they will send another email in a week offering for less? lol

  5. Fellow cruisers I need your advice.

I have a 4 day booked on the Crown (1/25/16) currently booked in a BD category, just received an email for $249 more per person to upgrade to full suite.

do you think this is a good offer? We paid $309 (before taxes/fees) for the BD category.

Need some advice. I have never sailed in a full suite before, so anxious to try however not sure it's a great deal.

  6. I have been thru Ensenada several times and actually only once did mexican customs open my bag and start questioning what I had.

They just asked what is this, I told them medicine for my asthma and they said do you have a prescription and I said yes and they just said okay. They never asked to see it.

The only frustrating part is that they opened up two of the bottles (breaking the seal) which was irritating but it is what it is.

I still always get what I need down there (saves me about $125 U.S.) I think it's worth it.

Also when I went thru and they really started asking was during spring break, that could have another reason to do with it and I was with a group of my friends.

I would say get what you need, chances are you will be totally fine!

  7. Prices onboard this week were higher than those menus, but not significantly higher. I think beers are now 5.95 / 6.50. Cocktails still in the $8-10 range. No bar I found on the Sky had Don Julio 1942 so can't say what the charge was. Did find that prices would vary for the same drink bar to bar but need to go through my receipts to see what the variance was.

Specify the brand of alcohol you want or you get the cheapest house brand (no surprise there, how most bars work, but worth a mention).

Bar menus very skimpy. 1 page of a handful of items (themed) per bar; no pictures. We printed this out - became a HUGE hit and way to make friends; many bar tenders took it from us a reference as well:

Bar service was mostly good and except for 1 or 2 instances of bad service found most of the bar tenders fast and friendly. Nice MDR wine list but no sommeliers to guide you. MDR bar service much faster than Royal Caribbean. Frozen/mixed drinks weak but tasty. Quality/consistency of simple cocktails was all over the map; did not realize a Grey Goose and Tonic or Mimosa could vary so much; when we found a good bartender we stuck with her (and gave a Hero card to the Hotel Director, and cash tips - only did a write in when I was in a hot tub and had no cash on me).

Overall I would say we had a good experience utilizing the UBP and bartenders were always happy to fill any order. Seemed like the entire ship has UBP but did not experience big lines anywhere.

Thanks for the list!! I haven't been on NCL in a few years and I leave next week for my birthday on the Jewel to Mexico. I can't wait to print this baby out and use it!! :D

  8. Norwegian will always show the PORT time, they will have you advance your clocks by leaving a note on your bed the night before. You can also find the port website and looking at the docking information of your ship, that will be local time as well.

fantastic, that is very helpful, thank you!

  9. Hello!

I just booked a cruise on the Jewel to Mexico leaving next week, Puerto Vallarta is 2 hours ahead and I can't remember if the ship stays on Los Angeles time, or if it will change to port time?

I'm trying to book a few excursions locally and not thru the ship. Can anyone help?

  10. I believe the threadstarter stated they tried, but the price changed on the booking page.

I have had this happen to me before also when I tried to book a very cheap price quote - the price adjusted substantially higher on next screen when I tried to book it. I have read others saying it also happened to them.

I wish I could book on those prices! Thanks for the info, sounds like an online problem. I would book all 4 of them if I could LOL

  11. Hi everyone,

I have never sailed on Carnival and most recently started price watching the 3 and 4 day cruises out of Los Angeles. Just looking for a little get away since I live in Arizona and it's a quick drive to Southern California.

I saw this pricing today and my first thought was yeah right..must be a glitch. I tried to book and the prices immediately changed on the second page. I also called and the person I spoke to wasn't very helpful, he just kept asking me where I was getting these numbers. I said I would take screen shots and email it to them however he didn't seem to care. Is this normal for these types of glitches? I am aware of the casino offers that are provided however I have never sailed on Carnival. I have sailed Princess several times but I know it isn't connected. Sorry for the bad quality on the pictures, I took them with my phone!

  12. Anytime I cruise I usually always pack a pair of scissors (on different cruise lines) in my checked bag and never have a problem.

Last year on the Golden (little 4 day out of CA) I was waiting for my bag and got a notice that I had to go to the "naughty room,"....I couldn't figure out what the problem was. I actually didn't even think of the scissors because I always take a pair.

I dragged my friend with me since I had no idea what to expect especially after reading on CC all the naughty room talk LOL

Security asked me if I had a knife and I said no, than I said wait I do have scissors. They said please show us so I pulled them out ready to have them confiscated and they said okay thank you your fine. So no issues after that.

I have cruised princess, and celebrity since the golden and packed my scissors and had no issue. Go figure!

  13. I did my 1st solo cruise in January - my 10th cruise. I was scared to death and almost cancelled. When I got on the ship and was waiting by the pool for rooms to be opened I really teared up. All of my other cruises were with my parents who both passed within the past few years, so part of the tears were for them. Then I started feeling sorry for myself - look at all of the families, couples, groups, etc and here is poor me sitting all by myself! Then a revelation - this is my vacation and it is up to me to have a good time or bad. The rest of the vacation was wonderful, so much so that solo cruise #2 is in November. I sat at an assigned table with 3 couples. Wonderful table mates. One couple I always sat with in the theatre - they asked me. I met people at the muster drill - 3 excursions with them. Met people at the pool - oh hi come sit over here with us. I loved I could have my people time and my alone time!! I never once felt lonely. Yes, I got the questions about why I was traveling solo - answer because I was tired of waiting for other people to travel with. By the way, I am not the life of the party kind of person, rather shy and always think no one is going to like me. Surprise they did like me LOL!

Go for it just remember that it is up to you to have a good time!!!

Awesome post! I have been lurking on the solo cruise board because I really want to try it, I've just been too chicken to book it and do it. I would probably be the same in the beginning thinking about the other families and why am I there alone...thank you so much for the inspiration!
