  1. I have never used Voom before. Can someone please explain the best way to IM between iPhone and Android while on the Allure? I just want to be able to send text messages with family members while on board. Thanks.

P.S. When I sailed on the Quantum, they had a Royal IQ app that we used to send messages. Is there something similar on the Allure?

  2. Interesting question. It seems from the few posts that the answer is no. Jacket is usually required to be considered "formal." Although some said no tie. But it seems as though jacket will be necessary.

In my personal opinion, and not wanting to open any discussion or step on any toes, Grande is an advertised "Formal Only" restaurant. I hope RCCL sticks to their guns and holds to the dress code. It's not like there is a lack of dining on Quantum. Some of us like to dress up. Being surrounded by others equally dressed elevates the experience. So I hope they hold to the dress code. Again, just my own opinion.

I totally agree! You are not forced to wear a jacket as you do not have to make a reservation at the Grande if you choose not to dress formal. The Grande is for people who want to dress up. I believe you should wear a tie as well as a jacket for formal night. You guys have it so easy (try wearing stockings and high heels :)) You can change back to casual after dinner. Don't spoil the ambiance for those who want the formal night experience.

  3. Wow. Thanks for the info. While we will miss the eggs benedict....these new options sound tasty also. However, surprised at the limited menu.....no eggs " any style" or omelets?

Check out photo of American Icon breakfast menu on the CC Live chat page for Nov 1 - there are copies of the menu and they have eggs, omelets and more than just was previously mentioned in an earlier post as well as kids menu. There are also copies of menus from a few other restaurants.

  4. But of an update. Had a call from the food and beverage director last night asking to schedule an appointment with me today. Just had that appointment. A great guy and we had a good batter over coffee and chocolates!

All restaurants will from tonight have a basic kids menu running! He completely agreed they should have one in place and he apologises and has sorted it

Also sorrentos and a few other places on deck 4 will now have drinks available all day and morning he said it was an oversight on their part and something they hadn't thought of

What can I say!! Superb service And I couldn't have asked for more. I didn't raise a fuss with any of the complaints I made did it politely and they have sorted it. Very impressed!

So glad to hear that about the menus. Thank you for sharing this important info. Hope you all feel better soon.

  5. Is the first ride free ? $50 is over the top, this nickel & diming us has to stop.:eek:

The iFly fee is probably meant more as a deterrent for multiple rides so that all guests who want to try it will have an opportunity. However, given the money it cost to build this type of ship, RCI has to recoup their money someway. However, I do feel some of the out of pocket expenses are pretty steep.

  6. Please provide any updates or additional information from Guest Services or other restaurants regarding kid's menus. This could be a deal breaker and cause me to cancel my cruise in Feb if they will not have kids menus in all of the restaurants. We should not have to rely on Windjammer. I recall in the Dynamic Dining webcast with Adam that he indicated there would be kids menus and there would also be the alternate menus with standard basic dish options similar to like they have in current MDR on other ships.

I too remember Adam Goldstein saying they would have regular menu. You should not have to go to Windjammer especially when you want to dine with others while they experience the many dining options. I have many dietary restrictions and am hoping a standard menu will be available just in case. I do not Facebook but for those that do, I see RCI monitors that site and responds on that site. Also may want to voice concerns directly with RCI regarding kids menu so they can correct this immediately especially if it is going to be a deal breaker.

  7. I've updated the Q&A spreadsheet. I believe I caught them all, but please take a quick look and let me know if I missed any questions from anyone.

@Berbet - I believe we're scheduled to leave around 5pm, which will be noon EST.

    Thanks!

    Joanna

Checked out your spreadsheet. Admire your organizational skills. :). I participated in the CC live chat with Adam Goldstein. He said the experience on the North Star lasted for 15 minutes and that we should be able to reserve time on the Cruise Planner. However, it is not an option in CP yet for me (sailing Jan 3). Thanks again for this thread and have a great time!

  8. Royal iQ app is now available in the Apple App Store. Description: " Royal iQ is the personal vacation management app that allows you to maximize your Quantum of the Seas experience, once you are onboard the ship and connected to 'royal-wifi.'

Royal iQ makes it easy. Book your Shore Excursions, reserve your evening entertainment, manage your Dynamic Dining reservations, schedule your onboard activities, track your luggage sidewalk to stateroom, manage your personal calendar, call and text others onboard* and so much more."

    *for a nominal fee.

If anyone finds out what the "nominal fee" is, please let us know. The images of the app look very nice.

  9. With the ship sailing soon, when will this app be available ? :D

  10. I just downloaded the Royal iQ app. The description in the App Store says there is a nominal fee for text/calling capability using the app. The other features work via the ship's free Wi-Fi. Please let us know what the nominal fee is. Also, if you use the app, please let us know if all features worked well. Thank you. Sounds like you guys are going to have a blast.

  11. I would like to know if you can text via the Royal iQ app for free or do you need to have an Internet package. When we sailed on the Oasis years ago we rented the iPhone and was able to text via ship's Wi-Fi. This was a great alternative to walkie talkies. Also would like to know what the Gatsby event was like. How do they handle reserving time on the North Star and how long the experience lasts. Thanks for posting. My family is sailing Jan 3.

  12. I had originally selected the 10:30 -11a time slot. When I went back into my online check in to print, I noticed I had been pushed back to 11:15a time slot. There was a button to change time slots and I knew my sister-in-law had just selected the 10:45 - 11:15a slot so I changed my husband's and my time slot to 10:45a. Apparently they did away with the 10:30a - 11a time slot.

  13. I think RCI is trying to appeal to those who want to be connected. I would rather spend my time enjoying the features of the ship, not doing something I could do at home. However, I am interested in the Royal iQ app. I read a post on RCI's facebook page that said it could be used to text family members onboard (hopefully for free). When my family sailed on the Oasis, we rented the iPhones onboard in order to keep in touch. We usually bring walkie talkies so we can locate each other. Given the size of the ship, this is invaluable. I think the luggage tracking feature is nice. I would not wear the bracelet though. I feel sorry for the husband whose spouse finds it hard to disconnect. :( vacations should be for having fun and making memories. I hope people will not be making/receiving calls at dinner, in the theater, or other public venues. Who wants to be relaxing at the pool having to listen to someone on the phone - ugh! This satellite must have cost a pretty penny so I figure the cost of internet will be reflective of RCI's expense so hopefully the cost will limit most from using it. I am looking forward to Two70 entertainment or just looking out at the ocean. The Bionic Bar seems like a cool gimmick. The more variety RCI provides, the more it keeps any one place from becoming too crowded. I agree with the cruise planner issues that RCI needs to address. Looking forward to reading the feedback from those cruising on Quantum before us.

  14. Hello everyone,

We've been following this awesome forum with great interest. There's such great information here! Cruise Critic has been provided a rare and fascinating opportunity to visit the Meyer Werft shipyard and tour Quantum and Anthem of the Seas. I'm leaving late this afternoon and will be there tomorrow, leaving Wednesday. Like you, I'm so excited to see these ships and all they have to offer.

While I'm there, I'd love to try to get answers to some of your questions, so please, leave them on this thread. I also hope to take a ton of photos of the progress. The Cruise Critic staff was talking about Quantum this week, and we were trying to decide what feature we most were looking forward to seeing/trying. Dining, trapeze lessons and cabins were high on the list, but I have to admit, I'm really intrigued by the Two70, space. What are you excited about?

Also, if you are active on Twitter, please follow (and contribute to!) our coverage between now and the debut on #CConQuantum. I'll be using that hastag from this trip. Here's hoping for fast internet from the shipyard.

I would like to know when they expect the new terminal in Bayonne to be completed.
