I would...and I would also explore the special rate that Virgin Trains (Brightline) offers for cruisers from the FLL station to POM...a joint effort of the train and Lyft.

I like the train idea because you miss the stop n go rush hour traffic.

Can you explain where to from tri- rain to board FLL and then where to get off for MIA to catch airport shuttle night before? Thanks

  2. We were on a 14 day Journeys cruise on the Glory fall 2015.  There were lots of fun throw back sea day activities.  Captain's reception in the theater with 2 seating options available with free drinks/ hor d'oeuvres similar to platinum party.  80's throwback activities, midnight buffet.  Wondering what the current Journey's activities are from anyone who has cruised a journeys cruise recently.  We head to Hawaii in April 2020 15 day Journey's cruise. Our 2015 Journey's was one of Carnival's first.  Thanks

Glad they are getting rid of the Sky Sports bar.  we sailed Miracle in May 19 and the place was always deserted.  Very sterile atmosphere, and pretty terrible sports programming on the TVs.  Only reason i went into the bar was to grab a drink during happy hour since the Red Frog was so busy and you had to wait forever to get a drink.

What type of happy hour do they offer?

Just to let you know how it went -

As soon as we left the Luau it took us less that 45 minutes to pull back into the Enterprise parking lot - that's with us leaving the Luau at 8:15 pm and putting gas in the car at Costco. We were on our way back to the Ship by 9 pm(we walked back). That strip of road is so smooth to drive. I loved every moment of the Maui coastline! We loved Maui and the Old Lahaina Luau!

There were a lot of cruise people there and not a person missed the ship. 😊

Which cruise port did you drive back to?  Thanks!

The kids pool on the SUN is a baby pool and the other pools are very deep.  Kids club on the ship is really good though, they have family activities too.  I think the grand finale is a Circus Show where the kids participate as the acts.

This sounds encouraging! Thanks...there is only one sea day unless we cant tender to GSC.  The Circus Show sounds like lots of fun.

No, not really. Your kids will be bored. There is a kids club and a small arcade but that's about it. Look into the 5 day sailings out of New Orleans on the Getaway...they would have a blast on that ship.

No 5 day cruises available during the week we are looking at out of NOLA. That would have been fun though:-)

  7. We are looking to book a 5 day Bahama cruise on the NCL Sun. It stops at GSC. We have 11 and 7 year old grandkids who went with us a yr ago on Carnival. and had the best time.  Is the Sun a ship that you would recommend for children?  They no longer include the all inclusive drinks, its a perk like all the other NCL ships.  Is there a kids club onboard the Sun?  Thanks for any past experience on this ship.

  8. I am looking for advice from folks concerning luau and timing for OLL.  We are in port one day and back on board will be 10:30 pm.  Docked at Kahului on Carnival Cruise ship.  The luau is said to end at 8:45pm.  Will there be Uber/Lyft readily available? Is is a mass of folks getting transportation at the end of the luau? Any other transportation ideas besides Uber/Lyft?  I am thinking the highway from OLL to cruise port is just 2 lanes and not wanting to be stressed concerning return trip back to port.  I thank you in advance for any suggestions.

I’ve used Avis. Not the closest, but I would definitely use them again. Yes, it is a toll road to Orlando. Make sure you don’t bypass the toll booths. It almost looks like you’re exiting the toll road to pass through the toll booths, but you’re not. (Those with electronic passes go through as through traffic.) Also, they have a lane for exact change, which gets you through a bit faster.

I have rented a car and gone to Disney once after a cruise and taken a ship’s excursion to Kennedy Space Center with airport drop off once after a cruise. Both were fun options. Hope you have a great time!

Thanks so much for toll road information, I had no idea you could actually pay cash on those roads.  We will look for what looks to be an exit and pay.

Are there any beachy type areas or restrurants up on our way towards MCO.  Thinking we should head up towards that way if there was somewhere to enjoy on the way.

Good choice, we missed Kona, Nawiliwili, and Lahaina due to weather.

We went to the two major waterfalls (each a very short walk from the parking area), drove into the now lava-covered suburban neighborhood to see the steam from the current active fissure (no lava was visible anywhere in the islands when we were there), visited a few scenic beaches, stopped at the turtle lagoon in town (my husband got to swim with a HUGE sea turtle... water was very cold), stopped at a farm stand for fresh local pineapple for a snack and a bag of coffee for my dad, ate a bunch of local junk food like chocolate covered macadamia nuts and sweet potato chips, went to the farmer's market in town where I got jewelry and crazy cheap flowers (I was allowed to bring these on board the ship), visited an art gallery (the for sale kind, not a museum), and I'm probably forgetting something. We skipped the national park due to lack of flowing red lava and most of the trails being shut down (it's pretty far out of town, so we could see so much more if we skipped it). The guide was fantastic (older hippie dude who's been living off the grid near Hilo for a couple decades) and we absolutely got our money's worth. Almost awesome enough to make up for missing three ports.

In regards to those missed ports: We got a refund for the biplane tour no problem, but big island air were not cooperative at all. The stop in kona was canceled because we weren't allowed to leave honolulu. This was after their cancelation deadline, so no refund. I didn't like that, but what really annoyed me was that when we called back first thing in the morning (less than 12 hours later) and offered to grab a commercial flight to kona to still make our tour time they said they had canceled the tour for insufficient numbers. They'd mentioned when we called the night before that one other couple had also been scheduled for the flight. We assumed that they would still get to fly seeing as how they already had our money to justify the flight. They decided not to fly them either, despite having kept our money. Which meant they had received a refund, which meant we now didn't have the numbers required fly.

Who did you book the "hippie dude"😂 through. Your itinerary in Hilo sounds great!
