1. I have never sailed and Azamara.  I am not a regular on these boards and do not know how to search answers to my question. What is the single supplement policy or practice? I recently looked at a cruise that was listed at approximately $2100 and when I indicated only one passenger the price jumped to over $7000. I expected to pay double but not over three times the rate. Just curious about this. It obviously means that as Azamara is not in my future. This up charge seems out of line with my experience with the lines such as Crystal, seaborne and Silversea.

  2. Currently on the Spirit. This is our second day and we have had two medical emergencies. We had to return to Fort Lauderdale after we departed yesterday today we could not tender at our first port due to weather,so had a sea day.The second medical emergency has now diverted us to Nassau.  We are due for a sea day tomorrow then the Turks and Caicos.  The joke around the ship is if this keeps up we will spend 14 days circuling at sea.   The ship is lovely ,wonderful decor, very good food and service in public areas.

  3. It will be wonderful! We will be on the Whisper and have cruised on a Silversea ship every Christmas/New Year's since 1996. Suggest you reserve your New Year's dinner restaurant early...Atlantide is a popular choice.

I will also be on this cruise. Did not know Atlantide took reservations.

  4. My thought exactly. Lived in Morocco for three years and Casablanca is some 2 1/2 hours and 150 miles from Marrakech.

Leave at 8 should be a there by lunch? No? Why we are spending night. Not a good plan you think?

  5. arriving Casablanca in Nov on Wind. Interested in a hotel in Marrakech where concierge can arrange for car and driver to takes us from ship to,hotel with an afternoon of sightseeing. Could go to hotel and pick up guide there. The next morning need car and driver to take us to ship in Agadir for a 7 PM departure. A very nice hotel but no need for most expensive. Ship has tour but expensive $1800 each on a bus.

Any thoughts appreciated. Have been to Casablanca and Agadir before.

  6. I think I am in for a long 16 days. At least I am not decorating the house for Christmas or doing holiday entertaining.

Well I am back . Ship definitely needs the dry dock. She is shabby in many areas. We were in D705, a mini suite which would be a balcony cabin on HAL or celebrity. Chair was stained, two gouges in couch. Balcony furniture old and worn. Sheets were clean but I founf a hole or two plus some permanent stains. Need new duvet covers.

Towels were good. Room attendant was great. He cleaned the best he could. Stuff is just old and worn.

I did not complain, I knew what to expect from this thread and reviews. It was an inexpensive cruise and I got what I paid for.

Never a line at anytime dining. There were 5 of us and we always went right in at around 6-6:30. Food in dining room was much better than expected. salads not crisp. Chocolate deserts were wonderful. Waiter, head waiters were terrific.

Internation cafe had good coffee drinks and snacks.

Not a buffet user except for an omelet at breakfast. It seems efficient. No lines.

Wonderful speaker on DNA and cases solved using it.

No organized bridge or card room.

Entertainment a mixed bag. They place a lot of emphasis on movies which is obviously very cost effective for them.

    Did private excursions.

    Had a good time.

  7. Just this week finished a B2B on the Golden. Our 13th & 14th Princess cruise. Outstanding was the wait service in main dining room and the Future Cruise Director. Major disappointment was in the upkeep of the public areas. Several bathrooms closed the entire cruise. Worn out furniture, carpet pulled away from corners, water leaking through out the ship. Bar service was non-existent at pool area during MUTS. While 2 servers stood and watched the movie more then 20 minutes. We had a future cruise planned on the Golden. We canceled that cruise and booked another.

I think I am in for a long 16 days. At least I am not decorating the house for Christmas or doing holiday entertaining.

  8. Thanks, I read an insurance thread a while back (not on HAL). One poster made a very interesting argument about not buying cancellation insurance for frequent cruisers. I recalled he/she argued that for every 7 to 10 policies one buys, it adds up to the cost of one trip. I don't know if that math sounds reasonable.

Not sure of math but we feel we have saved a bundle by only buying medical and evacuation coverage. We self insure the rest. Some day we will miss a cruise due to weather, health etc but we have saved more than enough to cover the cost.

  9. Does anyone have a wine list from the Pinnacle Grille? Any recommendations? We usually bring a red wine with us to enjoy, but will be ordering from the menu this time.

The last time we were in Pinnacle they had their own wine list. Much better selection but pricey. A lot of Washington wines which we like coming from Seattle. You can order from this list throughout the ship. Or buy a bottle from the Pinnacle Bar and take to MDR. Just keep your payment proof as you don ' want an issue re: corkage fee.. This was 9 months ago.

  10. Thanks for having the courage to say what I deleted.

I don't doubt that the ship has problems in the hottest climates, but I'm skeptical on this report. Did they keep their curtains closed when out of the stateroom? Did they have a fan? Did they prop their door open? Etc... On my recent Zuiderdam trip our outside temperatures were not above 85, so I can't judge the extent of the problem. But proper AC levels is a very individual matter. I am not one that claims all is well, despite the reports. I'm just suggesting that "your mileage may vary."

It is instructive to note that many office building set their AC at 78 degrees.[/quote

Just because one does not post here does not negate their experience. They may be going to the trouble of posting to warn others of potential problems. A nice thing to do, I think. At 78 degrees the wine will not be good for long.

  11. I rent the tux and love that it is waiting for me in my cabin when I arrive on board! No more wrinkled suits, more space in my suitcase, and my DW loves the look as much as I do! A tux makes for the best photo op and there are plenty of photographers around on formal night! If you don't want to abide by the Celebrity formal night dress code, then fine . . . eat in the Buffet! Ya won't hurt my feelings one bit! :D

Celebrity dress code is jacket and tie. Right? Not a tux although they look very nice if it is not one from your 1960's wedding party. I would rather see an Armani blazer than a tux out of mothballs.

  12. So this boils down to X has a published written policy (that was acknowledged pre-sail by the consumer - wether or not the consumer ACTUALLY read and understood it is another question) and is sticking to it and people aren't happy.

Should we also have X stop other policies that make MY personal experience negative.

If I am a smoker, should they waive the no smoking on verandas because, come on, really, it's outside.

Should they waive the BLU access Policy for Aqua and Suite guests only if a Aqua class person wants to bring their mom and dad who didn't book in Aqua even though all the seats are filled by those who did pay for Aqua?

Should the policy of holding passengers from the staterooms until they are all ready be waived since I want to get in my room now and I know Mine is clean and ready?

Should the policy of requiring guests to read and acknowledge and agree to the cruise contract be waived because even though a covered and described incident occurred, those parts of the contract aren't convenient to my circumstance?

If they waive those parts of the contract, should they then waive other parts of it like where they agree to protect and honor your privacy and private information and now publish your name and complaints in local newspapers with your date of birth and address and phone number or put you on a cruise line blacklist (yes I agree far-reaching, but still, if you void parts of a contract, shouldn't the others also become void?

PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. Buy travel insurance, or 'self-insure' and not pay for insurance and instead cover any losses out-of-pocket with savings from not paying for traditional insurance.

For me, not paying cruise insurance ever I have saved several thousand dollars to date so I know I have that savings available for whenever the inevitable occurs. My 'self-insurance' policy.

I agree. If I lost my luggage, I will be mad as hell. I would ask for a business class ticket home and a free cruise to sooth my frayed nerves. Never hurts to ask but would I expect it? No. Would I feel entitled to it ? No. We also have saved thousands by not buying insurance. Some day we will miss a plane, get sick and cancel a cruise or loose a bag. We will just have to admit this is the choice we made and accept the consequence.

  13.
But not so embarrassed as to: 1. not identify yourselves as suite passengers, nor 2. decline to follow.

I do not feel any embarrassment when I participate in benefits to which I am entitled. I enjoy and am thankful for that which is included in the price I paid for my cruise. I expect others to do the same, with neither conceit nor embarrassment.
I agree. You have paid for the perks and should not be embarrassed to use them. I have walked to the front of a very long line of coach passengers to board an airplane because that comes with the price of a busines class ticket. No need to be rude but not necessary to forgo a perk for which you have paid.
Celebrity saves seats at the shows for suite passengers. I use them. They come with the suite.
  14. Since the room stewards are extra busy these days with more cabins to take care of than in the past, I would think it would save them a huge amount of time if they did not take the time to make the towel animals. I am neutral on them - they are cute, but I would not miss them. I'd rather have more attention paid to the cabin and verandah.

I agree they are cute but I would rather have more cleaning.
