So just spoke to a lovely lady at guest relations regarding a few things and she confirmed the pax count due on this cruise was around 1035+ - a couple ((forgot exact amount)

And on the next cruise 3rd October departure currently around 500 which will be amazing 😉 that equates to around 17% capacity 👍🏼😊

Have a great time! I know you were scheduled to be on the TA on 10/10. Curious to know what, if anything, you hear about the expected occupancy on that sailing. Given all the changes (date change, port swaps), limitations (US citizens/residents only), and uncertainties (CDC guidelines re new homeports, testing, etc), I wouldn’t be surprised if the number of passengers is pretty low for the crossing.

We just disembarked the Summit yesterday and I can tell you with certainty that "flip flops" in the MDR or the Specialty Restaurants for dinner is the least of the dress issues that are problem. Nothing is enforced. While we were having coffee at the Café on deck 5 Saturday afternoon, one of the Ship's (4 stripes) officers stopped by to chat. During the many topics we discussed, when I mentioned the dress issue he reminded me the Ship's policy was defined in the Daily. When I asked why isn't it enforced, he had no reply.  That same evening we had dinner in the Tuscan Grill and at a table near us with a large party sat a gentlemen wearing a t-shirt and baseball cap on backwards and who do they seat next to this group.....the Captain and his guests!!!!!

  3. seadog67,

This is awesome - that's for live posting! Have a great time. We've done this cruise on the Breakaway a couple times and will be doing it again in a few weeks, also in the Haven. When I spoke with the pre-cruise concierge desk, they originally told me Patrick was going to be the concierge on board for our sailing. Then when some friends who are on the same cruise called, they were told Anoop would be the concierge. We've sailed with Anoop several times before and he is great (I'm sure Patrick is too). Just wondering if you could get the definitive answer while you're on board. No big deal. Just curious. Thanks and have fun!

  4. Hi Stacey!

Spa passes for the week are $199 in advance, a little more on board I think.

5:30 is super early for dinner. I recommend checking with the various restaurants when you board about different times. Also, you might consider splitting up the group into a couple smaller groups. We only have one full group dinner planned at Teppanyaki. Other than that, we'll embrace Freestyle and smaller and mid size subgroups will decide each night where to go and when.

Top decks are popular but crowded for sailaway and you're kinda forced to choose a side - skyline versus Statue of Liberty. Last year, we did sailaway from the aft portion of the waterfront and it was awesome. You could see both from there.

  5. Finally getting some responses on here. For most of our group, it will be their first cruise, so people are quite excited.

I see you've been on Breakaway before. Obviously you like it if you are going back on. Any thoughts, suggestions, comments? Do you go any of the the FOD happy hours? If so, what are they like?

Hi there, this will be our 4th cruise on the Breakaway. It's a big ship; embarkation and first afternoon on board can be a little crazy with 4000 people learning their way around and elevators will be crowded. Just take it all and stride and know that it won't be that way the entire cruise. If you board in time for lunch, go to one of the main dining rooms instead of the buffet because the buffet will be crazy crowded on day 1 (calms down after the first day). If you know shows or restaurants you want to go to, go ahead and reserve them on NCL website - you can always change them later if you want but that way you at least know you've got reservations. If you plan to do the free fall drop slide, bring swimwear without metal zippers, clasps, etc. as they won't let you do them otherwise (also - you have to take off jewelry (including wedding bands) for the free falls. They're fun though so the hassle is worth it. Speaking of worth it. A number of us are fans of the weekly thermal spa passes (if you're not in a designated spa cabin, you can purchase in advance. There are a limited number and it's a nice place to relax and get away from your 4000 new best friends - and it's adults only.

Yes - we generally go to the LGBT happy hours - at least the first few days. The dynamics and numbers can vary a lot from cruise to cruise - so if it's a fun group that keeps showing up, then so do we. If it dwindles by day 3 or 4, then we might skip after that. But, we've met some great friends at the FOD get togethers. In fact, 3 of the friends with us on this sailing are friends we've met at various FODs on Norwegian over the year and now we keep cruising together. Most of us are in our 40s. The times and locations of the happy hours will be printed in the Freestyle Daily newsletter.

By the way, I'm Karl. My Husband is Greg. We're from Atlanta (along with most of my family). Others in our group are from Seattle and New York.

Anyway, hope that helps. If you've got any more questions, ask away.

  6. I have to wonder how close the the "REAL" Margaritaville experience this will be? Somehow I'm thinking the menu may have some food-item names borrowed, but the actual food will be more cruise-ship standard. I also don't think Margaritaville will be open at night - the Flamingo B&G and the uptown B&G (same location on the Breakaway/Getaway) are only open for Breakfast and Lunch, so I assume that would hold true here as well.

Since the 5 O'Clock Somewhere bar is a completely separate venue down on deck 88 I think this is more of a marketing tie-in than anything else

I agree with this. Likely cruise ship versions of some of the items on the land-based Margaritaville menu. I'm sure it will be fine to good and maybe very good. We'll find out soon!

  7. Did they get the Noro under control yet? The few cruises before the one returning today had GI controls in place (no self service in buffet, no condiments on tables, public restroom doors propped open). We board today and are hoping things are back to normal (but of course understand and appreciate why they implement the control procedures - so if they're still in place, no biggie).

  8. Hey everyone, likely booking a cruise on the Pearl for early 2015.

Got off the Epic yesterday and had a lot of fun on O'Sheehans during my cruise, to my surprise, when i looked up the Pearl deck plans today to help cure my post cruise blues, it states that O'Sheehans has taken up residence on deck 8 where Blue Lagoon and Moderno used to be.

Can any recent cruisers on the Pearl share any photos of the updated space and advise if they have the "standard" O'Sheehans pool/darts type games?

We are on the Pearl to Alaska this upcoming summer. I noticed that O'Sheehan's was on the deck plans as well. I know there were plans to roll O'Sheehan's out to a number of other ships in fleet and I've read here on CC that the Jewel and the Gem had already changed over, but I had not heard that the Pearl had it yet. Hoping it's true since we like O'Sheehan's better than Blue Lagoon.

  9. Meant to post this a few weeks ago but work and daily life got in the way (that happens after a two week cruise!)....

Epic - transatlantic (BCN-MIA, 10/26/14 to 11/9/14), Saturday night, 11/8/14 (last evening of the cruise): They DID have lobster tails in the Garden Cafe buffet. They had staff members handing out 2-3 at a time. It was part of "grill night" in the buffet. In addition to the lobster tails, they also had grilled steaks and grilled sausages available at the main stations (front right and front left when you walk in the main entrance). The lobster tails, if not the same, were similar to the "cut in half lengthwise" ones they used to serve in the buffet on night two of previous cruises (after they had vanished from the MDRs).

We actually just happened upon the long lost lobster tail offering by accident. Since we were having a late dinner at Cagneys, we went down to the Garden Cafe for a snack around 6pm. And there they were! It was a total surprise since we had read on here that they were long gone (and they had not made an appearance during the first 13 days of the cruise). We even texted some friends on board and they came down and had some too. There was no advertising for the lobster tails (we actually checked the Freestyle Daily to see if we had missed learning about it).

Totally realize this was probably a one-off situation on a long repositioning TA cruise, especially since everyone else is reporting no lobster... But, it might be worth taking a peek at the unadvertised offerings if the buffet on your ship advertises a "grill night." Just when you think they're really gone for good, they might just make an appearance.

  10. My two friends and I are on the 9/21 Breakaway sailing. We are all currently in studio cabins (which are sold out), but wanted to upgrade to a balcony for this sailing (Which there are many). Our TA said that NCL will not allow this unless we cancel and rebook (and incur the 50% cancellation penalty), even though we are paying more than our cabins cost. He said he even got a supervisor involved but they wouldn't budge. I've sailed on NCL a lot, but never tried to pay for an upgrade after final payment. s this normal? Thank you.

    Richard

    Are you trying to move:

    (a) from 3 studios to 3 balcony cabins; or

    (b) from 3 studios to 1 balcony cabin.

I think that makes a difference. If (a), then it shouldn't be a problem as each of you should be able to pay to upgrade each of your reservations. But if (b), then it would require cancelling 2 of the reservations and upgrading the third one to the balcony and adding the 2 other passengers (who cancelled). Not saying it can't be done, but there's more involved (more rules/policies/etc.) to consider and deal with in the second scenario.

It can't hurt to keep trying though. Good luck.

  11. I have the UDP and just checked myNCL. $31.20 per person. A little more than 20% off the new price. Not sure how they got $31.20 but I'll take it. I wasn't planning on going there but with this new price I just might have to try it. Thanks for the heads up

    $31.20 is 20% off $39.00.

  12. Hello everyone!

Just wondering if there is any feedback or opinion of Karabi, the current concierge on Dawn?

Sailing in less than 2 weeks..can't wait! !

We sailed with Karabi on the Jade last year. We thought she was great. She was charming and got everything taken care of for us - reservations at specialty restaurants and MDRs for a large group at peak times, getting our group off the ship quickly so we could meet our privately arranged tours as early as possible in the various ports, etc. Have fun!
