And I just checked my Princess account and - yep - that $50 is there!
Can I ask where you found it? I also got the email and I logged into my account , looked in the payments section where you can find credits, and both my cruises have zero credit. Is that where you found it?

Thanks for the response. Kind of how they used to do Crab Shack years ago.

I looked through the deck plans to try and find casual dining restaurants on Caribbean and didn’t see Planks or Steamers. Where do they do this?

We are on the Wind January 5th.

This looks rather invigorating! I don't suppose they do the traditional "Keel Hauling", wherein they pass a rope under the ship, and you are dragged from port side to starboard side. This was done, as I understand, when a new sailor crossed the equator for the first time. (Warmer water!) I have a sailor's log from my great grandfather, recounting his initiation into this fine tradition back in 1850 or so, as an able bodied seaman on a sail driven vessel trading from Boston to the west coast - pre Panama canal, obviously.

Thanks for all the info! I hope we get to do this. I’m going to go in Lake Ontario the morning we leave for practice!

Yes, have done three Polar plunges; one in Antarctica this past January, one in the Arctic (Svalbard), and one in South Georgia islands with hundreds of thousands of penquins looking at these crazy humans plunging in the 29 degree Antarctica seas.
The Silversea Expedition Leader generally offers a Polar plunge on every Antarctica voyage, usually sea conditions dependent. Both guests (we had 50 plunge) and crew (about 30) plunged in January.
You will have to fill out a medical form so the ship's doctor can clear you. The morning of the plunge you will wear your swim suit with your Silversea robe and head down to the Zodiac departure platform. Most likely you will be in a line with fellow guests, as you are called to the platform you take off your robe, climb down to the platform where the Tender crew manning the Zodiac platform will secure you with a belt and rope prior to pluning. Most guests jump for their plunge, some dive. The Ship's photographer will be out in a zodiac with his zoom lens taking photos and shares them with you later in the cruise. The photo below was taken by Antarctica Alan, the Silver Cloud outstand Photgrapher studio manager (have been on three expedition voyages cited above with Alan).
Post plunge you will immediately put your Silversea robe on and head to the staging area near the elevator, where Silversea has hot tea and Adult beverages (Bourbon, Rum, et.al) waiting. We enjoyed a drink then headed to the Silver Cloud's jacuzzi to get warm.
Hope this helps and have a terrific Antarctica voyage and thrilling Polar Plunge!

Has anyone been on an Antarctic cruise and done this? Is it something they offer every cruise? I understand it would be weather dependent, but just wondering if it is common. I am hoping to do this. My nurse friend says I should practice going into cold water so I have been going in at the. Cottage. So far the coldest is 52F. I know the ocean will be around ZERO, so I hope to go into Lake Ontario on New Years Day, which should be in the high 30s or low 40s.
Any experiences out there? -
Thank you all for your input! Very helpful.

We are in the process of ordering our Jackets and boots for our Jan 5 Silver Wind Antarctica cruise. We are undecided on ordering walking poles. For those that may have been there, do you thing it would be advantageous to have them? We are in our 60’s and relatively fit. Just not sure how icy or slippery the snow is.
Please let me know your experiences. Thanks.

Since we were supposed to sail form Ushaiua, How is this going to change the number of landing days? Has anyone heard? Puerto Williams is so much farther north we must be going to lose Antarctica time.

Thank you for your post. We are sailing on silver wind on Jan 5th. I sure hope Covid is under control next winter. We would hate to cancel Antarctica.
Enjoyed your profiles of the staff.
I'm glad you told us about the process to get into Chile. Just something we have to be ready for.
I think you or someone else said you have to show proof of $36k in medical insurance on the application. Did you buy insurance from Silver Seas or have another plan?

Thanks for the info on dinner attire. We love dressing up for dinner and I was trying to figure out how to
get all those clothes and shoes in one suitcase and a carry on!
It sounds like I could get away with one cocktail dress and then pants with nice tops for other nights.
We are booked on Jan 5th 2023 on the Wind.

We are booked on the Wind for Jan 2023. Did they cancel this year because of Covid or because the ship won’t be ready after it’s conversion?
-
We just decided to book the Wind for Antarctica Jan 5 2023. We have never sailed Silversea before and we will be celebrating our 20th anniversary. Our honeymoon was our first cruise in Tahiti and we got hooked on cruising. Quite the temperature change!

We have to make our final payment for our October cruise. I am definitely going to confirm we can get a test on Board to get back to Canada. I don't even care if I have to pay for it.

We have been on all class ships except the Sun. We booked Island to do the Panama and expected to not like it. We really didn't find it that bad and were pleasantly surprised. I think the only thing we didn't like was that the theatre didn't have an exit down at the lower level. It took a long time to get out of the theatre. (I think this is the ship...) And we only notice because we are type A!

Very funny. i really enjoyed reading your review. That transatlantic is on our list for when we retire. Norway we hope to do in the next couple of years.

Any idea what the best beach is on Coco Cay? We like the calm water and some snorkelling.
-
We are doing the California Coastal in Oct. Santa Barbara is a tender port and the only port we have never been to on our 10 day cruise. I sure hope we don't miss it!
-
PS... We just came back from Napa... I'm sure you're bringing some pretty nice wine! worth paying the corkage!
-
I don't think tax is an issue. But Princess only allows 1 bottle per person at checkin. You may be charged the corkage for the other bottles.

I realized I needed to look in our account, not in our booked cruises. I actually found the $50 credit when I checked the account that matched the email address the letter came to. Bonus! $50 US is big money for Canadians! LOL!
