  1. I booked our cruise long before I knew that my daughter would still be dating her boyfriend (very new relationship when I booked) and I booked for June 1st out of NYC. We found out he graduates May 31st at 8pm. We are going with other families so no way to change our dates. Our plan is to take the earliest nonstop flight out of Austin on June 1st. Delta currently has a 6:30am flight to Newark and if JetBlue continues their current trend they will have a 5:30am to JFK which will be our first choice. (Their summer schedule opens next weekend).

I'm slightly stressing about flying in day of. Are there a lot of positive stories out there of folks flying in same day??

We do have trip insurance thru travel guard.

  2. We have booked the Sunshine for the June 20, 2016 cruise to Canada. It is a 5 night cruise departing on a Monday and returning on a Friday. We would very much like to incorporate both the pre-cruise weekend as well as the post cruise weekend into our schedule by staying in NYC for those 4 nights. We are flying in (not sure to which airport - whichever airport is cheapest I suppose!).

We are looking for decent prices for the four nights. We will have 3 families going: party of 5, party of 4, and a party of 2. We are willing to stay pretty far out but don't want to spend a fortune on taxi's. Just by looking online for the past hour it seems hotel rooms for 5 seem to be hard to come by! I have looked at Airbnb which might have some things that work, but deep down, I think we'd prefer a hotel. We don't need fancy...just clean and in a safe area near public transportation if possible.

Since none of us have ever been to NYC we do not want to drive in the city.

Any help and/or suggestions would be most appreciated!!!:)

  3. Thanks. I think our Glory cruise in 2013 was the cruise right after yours. We left out on June 9th if I remember correctly. On that cruise we were in an inside stateroom on the Empress deck (deck 7?) and we couldn't hear the fog-horn, thankfully, because it went all night for 3 nights every 90 seconds! I feel like people on the Lido deck would for sure have to hear it. I've never cruised on the sunshine but by looking at the deckplan the Cloud 9 spa rooms look like they might be within ear-shot too. I think I will just go with my gut feeling and book a lower room and save the Cloud 9 experience for a different cruise!

  4. We are presently trying to decide between two cruises for June of 2016.

One we are leaning towards has stops in Key West, Nassau, and Freeport. Is it possible to NOT do an excursion in the Bahamas? We like usually like to go siteseeing and walk around town. Is there plenty to do within walking distance from the ship or would we need to book an excursion from these two ports?

    Any advise would be appreciated!

    Thank you!!

  5. In June of 2013 I went on a 7 day cruise out of Boston on the Carnival Glory to Canada (Portland, Saint John, Halifax, Sydney). After booking, my husband wasn't able to join us (work) so for the past 18 months I've been wanting to go back and show him how beautiful it is up there (and have some more lobster, lol!!!)

I was really excited a couple days ago to see NCL has posted their 2016 schedule (we are going to Disney twice in 2015 so we won't be able to cruise in 2015). The price for this cruise is about $300 more per person then our 2013 cruise. I knew that they would be higher since rates summer of 2015 are in the $900 range! 2016 is about $695 per person for an inside stateroom, 6 day cruise (this one doesn't stop in Sydney). I think this rate increase vs. 2013 is due to the new fuel requirements of the North American Emission Control Area.

Pushing the pencil tonight flying from Texas to New York will cost us about $300 per person. The cruise about $3400. Hotel and transfers for 1 night in NYC about $350. We really wanted to spend 4 nights in NYC but with the rate of the cruise being so much higher than 2013 we just cannot swing it.

Now I'm questioning so many things. Should I wait on Carnival's schedule and see if they have something more reasonable? They won't be releasing their schedule until April - I thinking waiting that long I could be taking a risk that NCL's rates go up. With rates the way they are right now, we are looking at a TOTAL out of pocket of $5100 for 6 day cruise - 4 people - inside stateroom. Based on my past cruises, that seems really steep to me, even if I'm not comparing it to my prices from 2 years ago out of Boston when we paid about $3400 and that included spending 4 days in Boston.

We have also talked about going to Key West & the Bahamas - which we could do for approx $3200 out of Galveston Texas - and we wouldn't have any travel expenses except for a tank of gas and parking. I'm just really concerned if we went this route of things to do in Nassau and Freeport. My husband and son would scuba dive there, but my daughter and I like to sight see. Is that possible to do on our own in either of those ports or would we need to purchase an excursion?? i will also post this question over in that forum.

We can only cruise in June of each year due to school and work schedules.

What are y'alls thoughts? Do you think prices to Canada will go up? This is the cruise we REALLY want to do. Do you think Carnival will offer any summer cruises to Canada out of NYC next year?

Based on this Cruise Critic article - I'm not sure: http://www.cruisecritic.com/news/news.cfm?ID=5406. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
