  1. The new game on shore is one restaurant in California, and a small chain in Florida, adding 1% to every bill, to cover their employees healthcare due to Obamacare. And where most are startled by this, yet some OK, this is an instance were these establishments are imposing a tax, where only the government has that right. Imagine everyone just imposing taxes on a whim, instead of raising the cost of their good and services.

Amazing how some will allow anyone just create their own accounting for their own tax purposes and savings, and just go along with it.

    Now, back to cruising.

On TV two days ago. There was one place in Beverly Hills Cal adding a 3% health care tax. The owner stated his customers would no even notice it.

  2. Hi, I"m wondering if anyone has traveled to Egypt recently or if anyone is considering or has a trip booked for 2014. If so, any concerns about security?

We're looking at an A&K Cairo and the Nile tour in Novemeber 2014, and my traveling companions keep sending me travel alerts from 2013. Is there a reason to be concerned this year? I'm not a timind traveler, but also I'm not looking to take any fool-hardy risks unnecessarily.

Any thoughts/input from you kind folks?

    Thanks!

FYI- There is an article on the MSN home page 2-17-2014 that states a Egyptian Islamic group is warning any foreign tourist is subject to attack after FEB,20 2014. The article says this is the same group that killed 2 South Korean tourists in a bus bombing last month. I would stay out of Egypt myself just in case the MSN article is correct.

  3. Just curious what the general feeling is about nude sunbathing, or just being naked on your own balcony while at sea... is that illegal or indecent? Is it just your balcony and you should be able to do what you want as long as it isn't disruptive to the neighbors?

And no, this doesn't apply to being in port... I just wonder if people can see into your balcony...

    Thanks

    Leaving on Freedom Sunday wahoooooooo![/quot

FYI, I was reading an article this afternoon on a travel site, Smart Traveler titles 10 thing that Could get you thrown Just off a cruise ship. Item 8 was public nudity. Just something I read on the net this PM.

  4. Who can answer this question...I am booking a balcony cabin on the Caribbean princess and I know that some of the decks have balconies where people can look over and see onto your balcony. I also know there are some that are covered (and there may be others that are half covered). I don't want a balcony where people are looking in the whole time. Does anybody know what decks or categories of cabins are NOT visible from above?

    Thanks in advance.

A couple of years ago we had a balcony balcony on the Baja deck. We could look down onto several decks & balconies but there was no one above us.icon7.gif

  5. On our last cruise we ran into a guy who told us that he had made arrangements to live on a Princess ship. According to him, for $57K+ per year you could get an inside cabin on any ship, but you had to sign a contract for the full year and pay up front--no refunds. The gratuity in this instance was $2.00 per person, per day.

He said there were currently something like 115 couples who were living full-time on Princess ships.

Does anybody know anything about this?

Look up a cruise ship that calls itself the world. Condo type operation, You buy the cabin, big bucks, pay your share of the ships expenses condo fees, your own exenses. Ship keeps going on and on etc.

  6. The TV and web news reporting seem to be getting spottier. Info on some of the CC threads is often interspersed with off topic discussion. A "news only" thread makes good sense and would save time for those of us who wish to know the latest updates; thus, if you find news worthy info regarding Concordia, please post a summary of information (and a link address, if possible) here.

Just saw a tv ad, what happened on the Concordia. Program to be on Discovery channell 2-19-2012 (cabel channell 10/11 PM. Didn't really take long, so where's the movie?

  8. I am looking for recommendationn. I want to take a one week trip in January along the Amazon icluding rain forrest and wildlife experiences. Trying to decide whether to take a trip in either the Peruvian or the Brazilian portions of Amazon. Recommendations? suggestions? Thanks

J get travel info emails from the Smithsonian occasionally. About a month ago one opf their features was Amazon River cruisrs they sponser. It looked interesting, nice boat, cabins, food, all with travel guides. Try looking them up, one comment is fairly p[ricey.

  9. I don't know how much a cruise captain makes, but I bet it will be more than an airline pilot. After all, there are far fewer cruise ships than planes, so captains are a much rarer breed. Plus these people are in charge of thousands of live at any given time, and they are on the ship almost 24/7 while pilots are limited by FAA rules to 8 hours per day on average if I remember correctly.

On one episode of Samantha Brown, I remember it mentioned a head cabin attendant makes about $2,000.00 per month on RCCL. Not sure if that figure is net or gross, or if it counts only basepay or includes additional tips. I remember thinking to myself that is not a bad salary (when I first started working, my take home pay after all witholdings ia about $2,000.00) and would probably afford a pretty decent lifestyle in Phillipine and indonesia where a large number of the cabin attendants came from.

t's been two year ago now, but one of the ladies at our table on the Valor asked our waiter what the made a month. The waiter, Atila, as he said, like the Hun, he was from Hungary and told her he made with tips about $3,000 a month.

  10. The wife and my first cruie was on the Carnival April 1979. Ft Lauaderdale, San Juan, St Thomas and St Martin. The Carnival was the Carnival lines second ship, first being the Mardi Grau. Second cruise was Carnival Valor 2009 an Princess Caribbeau Princess Jan 2010. Still planning next one but probabely can't wait 20 years against and second one.

  11. The wife and I went on Carnival's only other ship at the time, actually names Carnival. That was in 79. The next time we went on a Carnival cruise, Valor, in 09 Carnival wouldn't accept us as past guest , no records kept at the time. I found an invoice, a few pictures, and a old Capers which I sent to Carnival. Results we were declaired past guests Send them whatever you can find, never know.
