Sorry to say but they need to get rid of the testing all together.  Went to Walgreens yesterday and tested positive for my Monday cruise.  I was shocked, went an hour later to CVS and tested negative.  I cant imagine how many false positives are showing up.

The question you have to ask is which type of test did you take? If the Walgreens one was a PCR and the CVS one an antigen then it's totally possible both are correct. Once you contract COVID you should not take the PCR test for at least 90 days as it can possibly still show up as a positive result.

    Good luck!

  2. We met Diego years ago on Enchantment, then he switched over to Mariner. Later it was Jewel. The last time we saw him on Jewel we had an afternoon lunch off the ship in Cozumel at this little hole-in-the-wall restaurant. I remember he was so excited about the next chapter in his life.

We will raise a toast to him when we embark on Enchantment in a couple of weeks. Then we plan on going to that restaurant (if it is still there) later on in the year hopefully.

RIP Diego! Thank you for all of the fun times we had over the years. We will miss you greatly...

One huge note- the ship is going PAST Quebec City, and all the way to Montreal!  That would be an interesting cruise!

And it still includes an overnight in Quebec City.

    That's a pretty amazing itinerary.

edit- and I see that there are 4 Canadian cruises that round trip out of Montreal!  That would be awesome.

I jumped on this itinerary for 3 reasons... I have not been back to St. John's NF for over 25 years! Also the stop at St. Pierre is very rare and finally Empress is capable of getting under the bridge between Montreal and Quebec City. It's a fantastic itinerary...

So looking forward to this next year!

I am turning on the very last day on Grandeur.  Not sure how that is going to work?  🤔

Anyone have experience with that ship on the turning point?

Yes, when we turned Pinnacle a few years ago it was on Grandeur. We had been on the ship 2 months earlier and asked the LA what we were supposed to do. So upon embarking we went immediately to the LA and he took our sea pass cards and replaced them with the Gold card. We got the wifi code, invitation to the Pinnacle Dinner, entrance to the suite area on Coco Cay (when it was still there!) and a nice recognition at the Top Tier Party. Only thing we did not get (because we all forgot about it) was an invite to the Suite/Pinnacle Party. But that was no big deal...

Keep in mind that every ship does things differently and even every LA too. We recently saw that one couple got no recognition and on another ship the couple got the recognition but nothing else. They were very upset that there was no invitation to the dinner! They made such a big stink about it that the ship gave them a dinner in one of the specialty restaurants.

I find if you go into a situation with NO expectations you'll never be disappointed and most often pleasantly surprised!

There is NO DRINK LIMIT in the Diamond Lounge, even on Adventure.  We spoke with the Concierge in May, and she stated 5 ships were selected for an internal audit which requires them to swipe for every drink.  It's for tracking purposes ONLY and does NOT use your 3 nightly drinks.  My first hand experience can deny this claim.

That is EXACTLY correct! We were on the May 18 Indy cruise out of Southampton and were given a heads up about this on the previous T/A. As stated for Inventory Purposes ONLY!

  6. The captain has not sat at the special table next to us yet, but we'll need to be on better behavior when he does.

We see the captain and his family quite often around the ship and he's very friendly and approachable. One of our friends happened to be standing next to him and his family waiting for the vans for an excursion and struck up a conversation.

But on another note, found out last night that he lost his wife a few months ago. His 2 young children, elementary school age, his mother and the nanny are also along. We see them all the time.

Oh my god... we had dinner with the two of them in May and met the children. During his noontime announcements his daughter would come on the speaker and do a little advertising. How horrible, understandable why he would have his children on board with him again. They need the stability of having their father around.

  7. Very glad everything worked out for you. We too have on occasion not received the proper paperwork for the meeting but having done B2B before, know what to expect. So I learned never to assume *anything* and double check when onboard. I even print out the set sail pass for the next cruise (which you don't need) and bring it along... that actually helped one time on Indy in Europe!

  8. I'm sure glad I ignored the bad reviews! This place is very convenient. On the drive up to Bayonne they called to make sure I was OK and asked if I needed directions. When I got there, they helped to unload the luggage, placed it in the van and took us right to the port. Upon returning, they were waiting right at zone 10 and immediately took us back to our vehicle.

I highly recommend this facility! Next time we cruise out of Bayonne I'll use them again. Much cheaper than the port parking!

  9. For all of you that are sailing on the eclipse cruise... it's an awesome experience! I was fortunate to experience one in 1998. We had 4 1/2 minutes of totality in the middle of the Pacific ocean a day after transiting the Panama Canal. Astronomy Magazine sent a crew onboard and we had lectures that were fascinating. Right before totality you will experience a significant drop in temperature, the wind will pick up and you'll see a strip of sunlight at the horizon completely around the ship. Depending upon the stars position, you may see upwards of 4-6 planets. We saw all of them up to Uranus. After going through that I can now understand how people in ancient times thought the world was coming to an end!

    Have a great time...

  10. Every RC cruise that we have taken in November has done a service. The larger ships, Independence and Navigator, had the ceremony in the theatre. Very well attended, passengers dressed appropriately, and was conducted by some of the officers onboard who served in their respective countries military. Afterward they all stood at the exit thanking everyone for their attendance. It gave you the opportunity to thank *them* for their service.

Another one was out by the pool on a Radiance class ship. Veterans onboard were asked to gather around, there were prayers and a moment of silence.

If I were you, go ask at guest services as soon as you board. If the ship hasn't thought of it ahead of time this will give them an opportunity to arrange something, even if it is just a moment of silence throughout the entire ship.

  11. As long as I can still climb stairs, the elevators are OUT for me. A couple of times when I have been talked into taking the elevator, people have been coughing and guess who comes down with a cold a couple of days later? Now I flat out refuse and will meet my party.

Also wash your hands! Soap and water and even the hand sanitizers help.

Paper towel to open the doors too.

  12. Yesterday I called RC and took 2 of our bookings that were made on board awhile ago and requested the price drop for the NR deposit. The difference in price was significant, we are definitely not changing these AND we received another $200 OBC! For us it was a no brainer but RC told me that any other change will now result in the $100 PP charge. I'm curious if that also applies to another price drop. Confusing to say the least...

  13. We just boarded the Grandeur and the Diamond Concierge is Rahul Barua. The Suite Concierge (the title on our benefits sheet) is a Carlington Berry.

That is correct as we just got off Grandeur yesterday. Also, Amit is on vacation and will be moving to Freedom in July. He says there is a new scheduler with RC and they are trying to move people all around...

  14. I think it all depends upon where you live, where you need to go and the time of year. While we were on the west coast, it was a same day flight up to Vancouver, all others were a day before at least. Now that we are here on the east coast it will depend upon the time of year but more than likely the day before especially in winter. If spring or fall and the flight is under 3 hours it will be a same day trip.

Whatever your comfort level (and financial situation) dictates, go for it!
