Morning.  I’m hearing some talk that our NYC arrival time is now 10 AM vs 7 AM

big difference for those with flights scheduled.  Can anyone help with checking?

luggage tag times onboard still assume 7…

    thanks

Cruisemapper states 10:15 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. for Getaway and Gem respectively.  Interesting to see who is right, the cruiseline or tracker.  I am not sure what is going on in port but I venture to guess cargo ships have priority when storms are brewing.

  2. I made reservations for the two MDRs on our upcoming cruise on the Getaway.

It was open for booking so I did.

I wanted the early seating at 5:30 pm.

I booked Tropicana, Savor and Taste.  and 2 specialty restaurants.  The other nights I left open for the restaurants that you cannot reserve.

  3. A mother and son approx. 80 yrs. and 60 yrs.were in the dining room last week on the Seaside. They had a small dog that sat on a chair at the table and even put his face up to the table. It was at the table behind us at breakfast. I found that very annoying. I don't like animals and don't like the idea of them sitting on the chairs etc.

I like dogs cats etc. But that is disgusting.

    No wonder norovirus runs rampant.

  4. Simple solution for airlines and cruise ships, for support therapy whatever pets, specifically dogs, require a muzzle and offer pet liability insurance.

  5. I read up on that to. A service dog HAS to be trained to do specific tasks to aid a disabled person. Therapy, comfort and companion dogs are family pets in the eyes of the law. You can get psychiatric service dogs though.

Cruise lines need to crack down on this fad, if only for those allergic to pets.

Agreed. Cruise lines need to stiffen up.

  6. Some people have a condition where their blood sugar can suddenly drop or climb. The dogs are very useful in those cases as we don't currently have a way to constantly monitor blood sugar accurately.

Some are also trained for epileptics. They can sense when one is coming on often sooner than the person and also are often trained to assist by activating life alert calls, retrieving the person's phone, guarding them and if needed stimulating them post seizure to help them recover faster. I have a friend who would not be able to live alone without the aid of her Seizure Alert trained dog.

I don't care if there are dogs on board as long as they're well trained and kept under control. The cruise line is well within their rights to remove dogs who are not behaving.

    Are you serious?

  7. If you haven't seen this, you should give it a read of the abuse of cruisers on the subject of service dogs. Clearly the ones who feed their pet at table, or don't clean up its mess in the dining room are not keeping animals who are trained to perform a service. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2584297&highlight=pets

And it all comes down to litigation. Airlines and cruise lines are only allowed to ask the minimum of questions, and rarely refuse because of the threat of a law suit.

That’s why the airlines will have the pet owner of an emotional support dog sign a statement stating the dog is well behaved. Hence no liability to airlines, all on the owner.

  8. Just saw a news story about how a number of airlines are cracking down on the spreading practice of "certified" Emotional Support Animals being brought aboard planes.

They are now going to require advance certification from legitimate licensed professionals - rather than the "get your comfort animal certification in 24 hours so she can fly free for you" operators.

Does anyone think it is likely that cruise lines will follow suit? I have not seen anywhere near as many "support animals" on ships as on planes ( which are now very common), but even the few questionable critters now seen might be the "foot in the door" leading to the sort of widespread abuse the airlines are now trying to cap.

It’s got to stop before these lunatics trying to make a point or cheat system (take your pick) take over.

The flight attendants want these “emotional pets” off their planes. Not their job to protect them nor their responsibility. Flight attendants are for passengers safety, not pets.

This is stemming from the face attack last year on Delta.

Air traffic privatization will stop all emotional pets. Flight attendant and pilots unions will have their say out if government control.

I fly a lot and one flight there was a emotional support dog with his head on my co-workers feet. Who was he/she supporting?

Service animals, different story. They will always be allowed.

  9. These new development is a major concern to me. I have trouble seeing at night (an old people problem, apparently) and I need my Nigerian Association of Voodoo Doctors, Inc. (NAVD.COM) certified night vision support bat with me to avoid running into things. What am I going to do now????????

  10. I just read the "Just off the Breeze" report and have seen others where people get sick while on the ship or soon after returning. I know this is almost unavoidable with the number of people we come in contact with just being on a cruise. So besides washing hands often & using hand sanitizer what can we do to help protect ourselves? What should we pack to help soften the blow of the flu or an upper respiratory infection? So far I have,

    Vitamin C

Alka-seltzer cough and cold or Theraflu

What else would be good? Also looking for preventative ideas as well.

Wash , wash, wash your hands. Before and after you eat.

Use the towels in public restrooms to open door.

    Immodium.

  11. So no, PRIORITY does not mean you can access prior to 1:00 p.m. It is either Platinum, Diamond or those whom purchased FTTF, from what I have read. But at times the wording is sketchy. It is a bit confusing.

It does state only Platinum, Diamond or suites have access to Captains room for check-in.

Of course Diamond and Platinum get priority over everyone for boarding, reservations for dinner, etc. etc.

  12. Even though on a 7 day cruise, like I stated earlirer my husband and I broke even, BUT, we had 4 port days and drank off the ship.

Now, had one day been an at-sea day, we surely would have come ahead.

But it wasn't about coming ahead, it was about paying up front and not worrying about a bar tab at the end.

There was a gentlemen who was approaching or had exceeded his limit, bartender made him drink 2 glasses of water before his next.

Totally worth the cheers in my opinion, I tried drinks I never would have otherwise and called liquor as well.

  13. Just got back from 7 day Liberty cruise, Western caribbean, 4 ports.

My husband and I purchased the Cheers program the moment we stepped onboard, $691 for both of us.

Added up all receipts, came out to $705.

We never came close to 15 drinks in a day, but worth it to us as we knew our bar bill from the start.

He is a beer drinker, me, rum, wine and other frozen drinks.

  14. Watch out for this. On the sailing we did, a member of our group was sailing with 2 friends. She asked twice to be sure they would split the charge out to the three accounts in her room. They told her it would.

She ended up having to get the bar manager involved because it didn't and it was big mess to straighten out. Turns out there's a policy that the entire room is charged to one S&S card.

All 3 would be on one S&S charge IF only 1 credit card given for all 3 (sounds like what happened).

Each person should have had their own credit card (and/or cash deposit) account for their own S&S card.

Not sure where you got your info regarding policy of entire room charged to one S&S card, this is not true.
