  1. We had to cancel due to one of our group testing positive on our way to the ship. 4 in the group with 3 different cabins. We had to provide proof that we were all in close contact with the positive person. We were all on the same flight so that worked. We had to send the airline reservation showing that we were all traveling together. I doubt you would get a refund if your group all lived and traveled separately.

A cruise should be for relaxing and the noise you describe is unacceptable.  I realize that you are focussing on lack of sleep but I am sure that the noise is bothersome throughout the day which makes relaxing and reading a book etc. not as enjoyable as it should be in the privacy of your cabin.  I hope the concierge is able to offer better compensation to you and yours.

Further, my husband would absolutely go crazy if this happened to us which of course would affect the harmony in our cabin. 😏 I likely would be trying to make the best of it. (with compensation of course) and he would be driving me bonkers.  Not the best vacation experience. 😠

You summed it up perfectly. Not able to take a nap on the sofa during the day and, yes, a bit of discord in the cabin. Thanks.

No,  the inside cabin they provided  to sleep is not compensation...it's the bare minimum they had to do to try to fix a small part of the issue (sleeping being impossible). It did not fix the issue.

Partial refund (unlikely), FCC (expect around 30% based on previous similar expeerience) , etc... will be the compensation.

    👍

  4. Again, thanks all for the input. We believe there is a difference in experience between what was booked and asking a cabin mate late in the evening to pack up and walk to the other end of the ship to sleep.  And in the morning, calling/ texting to find out if they are awake and to make plans, etc. for the day. If that is what we wanted, we we have booked 2 rooms and saved thousands.

We we are in discussion with the concierge, who has been very helpful, so will let you know the outcome, if appropriate.

When I worked on Disney there was a bulkhead "somewhere" above my office I shared with Port Adventures. When we would be in rougher seas that sucker would make the LOUDEST metal-on-metal pop you ever heard. All of us would jump. But no one could figure out what or where it was and being a ship we all just had to live with it. It doesn't help you paid all that $$$ for the experience but it does show it happens on all kinds of ships, old and new, big and small.

Even if the ship crew has known about it you can be sure shoreside reservations doesn't know. Unless they block the cabin for selling it will just be listed as another great suite. You can try asking Guest Services if there is more compensation (specialty dining, OBC) but I doubt you'll be able to get much more than they have already offered. Be happy you are not on a B2B, I guess.

Thanks. The is exactly the metal on metal noise although it is several in a row and random. The cabin wall vibrates.

  6. Thanks for the quick replies. To clarify. It’s a 2 bedroom suite. Having been on 20 or so cruises, we know about typical creaking, coat hangers and noises in some rough seas. This is a not that and they have known about it for a while and admitted that it will need to be fixed in an extended downtime / taking the room out of service/ dry dock. We have been given a second inside room that’s a 10 minute walk. If that is what we wanted when we booked, we would have saved at least $5,000.00 over booking the 2br suite.

  7. Currently on a longer cruise in a grand suite 2 bedroom (family suite). Whenever we have rolling (side to side) ships motion, there is loud banging noise in the ceiling near the entry to the second bedroom. Seas have been rough so noise is happening consistently ( it is much more than the typical ship creaking). We can not sleep in the second bedroom. Maintenance  has reviewed the situation and it cannot be repaired without extensive ceiling removal so they can not fix in a day or two.

The ship is full. They found a distant inside room for sleeping and we got a bottle of wine. Not the relaxing suite experience that we paid for.

Any thoughts on a more appropriate or fair compensation that we could ask for?

I would prefer not to discuss the specific ship or other details unless necessary. Thanks.

  8. Was on the Freedom fall TA. In 14 days, did MDR 2 times. Very average food, small portions, slow service. We found the WJ had better food and selection. What was interesting, being in a full suite, we ordered room service for dinner with friends using selections from the MDR menu and the room service menu on 3 occasions. Food was better, warmer and faster (delivered in about 20 minutes). Room service uses a different kitchen. Also saw several diners in the MDR handing tips to the waiter early in the meal. They seemed to receive better service. Hmmm....Overall, we did enjoy the Freedom so don't hesitate. Just don't have high expectations that the MDR is "fine" dining.

  9. It is amazing that with millions cruising every year that we have met neighbors who live 2 blocks away, others that we keep running into on 4 different cruises, coworkers from the past, and made many distant friends for life. Look forward to meeting you guys.

  10. Just off the Ruby 4 day ending last Tuesday. A family cruise with the "coveted" Emerald deck Minis (4 in a row on the port side). NEVER again for an lower aft on a grand class. The aft thruster vibration WILL wake you up coming into port (unless the Ruby has a problem with it's thrusters ). Yes there was a slight noise from the lounge below at night.

As a side note, 3 of the cabins had non-working toilets for most of the first 2 days including a viewing of a "surprise" in 2 rooms on embarkation. Passenger service phone line was so busy they did not answer on many occasions. Eventually became friends with Ferdinand at the passenger services desk trying to get the issues resolved. Ended up with comp'd Sabatini's for 9 and $300 OBC.

On a 3 or 4 day cruise, a mini is not worth it. Go for the location.

  11. Incredible is all I can say to describe this event. As long as we had on the ship we still missed many of you but this whole experience and all of you will never be forgotten. Now that our pictures are being posted all over Facebook the whole world will never forget this group as well. We will be doing another TA in the spring of 2013 and will book as soon as sailings are released. Hopefully we will meet again. As the tran am flight attendants always say ... By..by :D.

  12. Barb, good know. We are up front thanks to miles but otherwise think of the free stuff we get....2 meals @ $10 ea plus extra bags at $50 ea plus fast security plus all the adult beverages...priceless :D.

    Gay, it's not worth it.

Peter, have a happy one :D.

Now, have to get back to filling those rum runners

Safe travels all. Two more work days but they are pretty worthless.

  13. I just called AA, going to Barcelona luggage weight is 70 lbs. This helps going, not too worry about coming back, most bottles and jars will be empty and will not bring back. For carryon usually just have 3 ounces or less in a 1 quart bag. Always carry meds on.

I am ready now, 2 more sleep nights. I have a 2 1/2 hour layover in JFK. Then a direct flight to Barcelona.

Those who are leaving today or tomorrow see you in Barcelona or on the Liberty.

Barb, I just checked AA.com and they show 50. Even if you are going up front it's still 50 but you get 3 bags free.

Gay, BIG thanks for all of your work and great spirit. Safe travels and see you on board.

For us, real packing starts in an hour after a few beverages. Take care all.

  14. Jillybabes

I met Herb and Marianne a lot on the Vision last month and Super Mario on the Liberty Eastbound Crossing in April :) the pinnacle is a nice oblong shaped badge like you say with your name on it.

    Corrinne

Aunt May has to be met to be believed, this is the lady who when she used to cruise had her assistant pack her clothes into the trunk that Cunard used to send her, next time she saw her clothes they were hanging up in her stateroom.

She is a wonderful lady and has been a great friend to me but oh my as far as cruising is concerned what a snob, she started cruising in the late 1920's when she would travel to School in England from India and as a young women met her first Husband onboard a ship, he died in 1959 and she remarried my Mothers Uncle Jim who was Chief Engineer at the time on the Queen Mary in 1963, sadly Jim passed away in 1970 and she continued to cruise alone until 2002 doing at the very least a seventeen week Round the World trip.

This is a Lady who cruised when it was for the privileged few and not the masses, but I have always loved her stories since I was a kid and still do.

    Sandy

Ships are like Men and we all have tastes there as well Some like Small ones some like BIGGGG ones

    OK NC again

    George,

I had an Aunt May as well! Too coincidental. The photos of her and her husband Mortimer  on the great ships with her mink stole are priceless. And yes, the yearly round the world.

Now to that NC..is the Liberty big enough or does it have to be Oasis sized?

  15. Hi everyone! Glad to see that the NC is getting full. Safe travels to all. 7 days and 12 hours till our plane takes off.

Edited a little theme music for us all, Let's get the party started :D. download here: https://public.me.com/pnorcross

On another note, at work we were kicked off on a couple of huge projects that the bosses wanted me to work on. Due in 3 weeks. They were asking if I could postpone my vacation . OH NO .

  16. Sherry, other than the illegal file-sharing sites, the best place for movies for your idevice is itunes. Just plug in your ipad to your computer and when itunes opens go to the store and buy away. No need for HD version. You can also pre-rent. With rentals you have 48 hours to watch them after you start to watch so don't start until on the plane or ship.

Mike, invitation is still open for a beer or ice cream some night before we meet on the ship. If we can't connect, will be great to finally meet you and Bill in a couple of weeks.

Bill, many thanks for your work. Also, big thanks to Gay.

George, really appreciate your wit. As to the Cubby Hole ;).

Off to see what fits  and start packing :D.

  17. Isn't this CRUISE critic? Not iDevice critic? This is great. We have all become friends around the world and we chat as if next-door neighbors.

Coming out tomorrow is the new IOS5 software that will store your music and photos and some documents in the cloud so as long as you have an internet connection, storage on the device is a little less important. It will synchronize your photos and music across all of your computers and idevices. Also sync wirelessly in your home. There will be a roll-out period through the end of the month so everything may not be available in all countries and on windows machines for a while.

There is little need for the 3G version if you have a phone with internet sharing or wi-fi hotspot ability as long as you don't mind having the phone within 20 feet or so of your ipad.

Apple does have the SD photo card adaptor that will let you transfer your photos to your ipad just like a laptop or netbook.

There is also a wi-fi SD camera card for your camera http://store.apple.com/us/product/H0676LL/A?fnode=MTY1NDA5NQ&mco=MTgxNjEzNDY

This will let you wirelessly transfer your photos to your computer or ipad (if on wi-fi). I just ordered and am going to see how it works.

Please don't let your photos sit on your phone or pad without backing up to a home computer.

You can also send/ view nearly everything on your ipad or iphone on your TV with the $100.00 apple TV box.

Sherry, unless you are wanting to put several movies ;) on your ipad 16gb should be fine. I have a 32gb, though, just in case we might want to bring along a few more movies :).

Enough for me. Now back to CRUISE critic....WE LEAVE IN 16 DAYS :D.

  18. I'm Craig from Atlanta and my last TA crossing was on a Russian ship quite some time ago. Have done several Atlantis cruises more recently and am looking forward to seeing all of you on board.

Welcome Craig to our little group :D. Paul and Mark from socal here. There are a few more from Atlanta also joining us if you have skimmed the last couple of dozen pages ;). If you are on FB, a bunch from here seem to have also hijacked a FB event "Liberty Of The Seas - Transatlantic Cruise Oct 2011". Join in the fun everywhere!
