Most of the Cruise Critic posters are Anglos like us.  Does anyone know if there is any Spanish boards where there are discussions about Pullmantur cruising?

We don't speak Spanish but have enjoyed several Pullmantur cruises and will be on one next week. If I find ant boards I expect I will use Google Translate to better understand discussions.

You have several facebook groups like adictos de cruceros, sucrucero, infocruceros. And the main one is www.infocruceros.com

  2. I will be on the Horizon this year for Halloween, curious if anybody knows if Pullmantur does Halloween parties. I know its not celebrated as wildly in Europe as it is in the US, but curious if I should dump a costume in the pack.

    Thanks

    Chris

We copy foreign habbits very quickly. Yes, they have special Halloween themed cruises.

  3. Immigration in T4 can be backed up when all the international flights are arriving on Iberia in the morning. I've done it a few times and have waited 30-40 minutes. It also can be a very long walk (plus train) if you arrive in T4S before you even get to customs and bag claim. OP has a bag to claim and re-check according to the OP, so I would think planning on about 1 hour to get landside at T4 is right.

Getting from T4 to T2 is a grind. They are 6 km apart. It's not fun. The shuttle is pretty efficient, but, you know, a Spanish efficiency is a bit different from, say, Swiss efficiency. And T2 is a bit of a mess. It's not like the new terminal. I'd check TAP's bag check policy at Barajas. If it's an hour before, and carrying on is not an option, this is going to be tight. If they allow check in 45 minutes or 30 minutes before, it should be fine. I would expect the best case scenario for a T4 to T2 transfer on split tickets with bags at Barajas is in the neighborhood of 1:15 gate to gate and that's if everything goes perfect. If inbound is an NYC departure, subject to normal ground holds and congestion, I personally would not be comfortable with this transfer if I had to be on that 9:10. If it's an ORD, LAX or BOS departure on IB, so long as it pushes back on time, it should be fine. If I could grab a later easyjet flight if everything goes screwey, I'd probably take the risk.

Spanish efficiency?. Efficiency is efficiency wherever it comes from.

  4. We are booked directly with holiday inn express fisherman wharf for our 4 night labor day weekend trip. The price has dropped 7 times (from $1603) since I booked and each time I call and get a price adjustment. It is now $1086 total for 4 nights with free breakfast. So shop around....and watch for price drops..then call and get the lower price.
Yes. I will have an eye on it.

  5. Go for Premium Rouge class. Separate cabin, seats with more pitch, extra legroom and better recline. Worth the up charge if you must fly AC Rouge.
Got one of the prefered seats. 34 inches pitch is decent. Perhaps I'll try an upgrade at the airport. It concerns me more the following leg. YUL SFO on a tiny Air Canada B737MAX. New planes but not too sure for a six hours flight. Regular seats have an appalling 29 inches pitch.

  6. Thanks again for the tips. Although I have homeless in the city I live, I don't think they cause any safety problem to anyone who doesn't mess with them. After all, they are just ordinary people with problems to feel compasion for

100% safety is virtually impossible but I was refering to gangs activity, violent assaults and all that stuff.

Fishermen Wharf is just outragously expensive. I know for someone living in a big city the safety concerns is too repetitive and annoying. But coming from a small spot where never anything wrong happens, safety is something which comes to our mind too often when we travel.

Anyway, it looks like a safe area at least at daylight to stay at.

  7. For Air Canada Rouge, the choices are:

Premium Rouge which IMHO is similar to Premium Economy

Rouge Plus which is similar to Economy Plus which uses the same seats as Rouge Economy with extra leg room. Rouge Plus is simply the first 3-5 rows of the Rouge Economy cabin.

Rouge Economy which is similar to a cattle car...

I have had the misfortune of flying Rouge 767's and have vowed to never fly them again if there is any other option available. The planes are older and while they have been spruced up a bit it doesn't change the fact they are old. The seating in Rouge Economy is painful (I'm 6 ft tall). Very little leg room and uncomfortable seats. They also use a wifi based entertainment system that requires you to download their app and either have your own iPad or rent one.... only to have a selection of VERY OLD movies and show.

IMHO the cost savings of Rouge is minimal and the product is subpar.

Just booked with Rouge from BCN to YUL (then SFO with regular AC) and don't expect much. I am flying back UA B787 to FRA. The good thing is 303 euros rt. I am getting a bit uneasy after reading your comments [emoji17]
  8. Hi,

Santa Barbara and San Diego are VERY safe!!

Depending on what you want to see/do it is easy to do those ports on your own.

Ensenada is safe too but I'd take a tour to the wine tasting area if that interests you at all.

Which hotel are you considering in San Francisco.

We have stayed between Union Square and Chinatown and it is fine.

The problem in San Francisco is not so much that you would be UNsafe. It is that there are unSIGHTly people/homeless that put visitors off their fun trips.

Just don't stare or interact with them.

Thanks for the tips. We are considering The Triton Hotel. All expensive as hell. I don't know if there's any convention or prices are normally insane.
  9. I will be cruising from San Francisco at the end of September. No idea where to get a pre cruise hotel. I have been told "Tenderloin" NO WAY. I have found one between Union Square and China Town. Any place to avoid? Safety tips?.

In Long Beach we get the cruise excursion. No idea how safe are Santa Barbara, San Diego or Ensenada.

  10. What are you talking about?

Making the rest of the fleet to look like the Silver Muse. The Silver Wind is a lovely old classic and I can't image removing former decoration to look like the bland, boring and insipid Silver Muse. They did a reasonable good job on the Spirit (with many cons) but I can't image the same change on the Wind.

  11. I DO disagree about food. Prepared to please Spaniards who usually have a high idea of what's fine dining. I know americans eat in a different way, and sometimes there are different ideas of how food should be prepared.

Chef Paco Roncero makes an awesome job, and food is typically mainstream cruise line food. Considering the price, Pullmantur makes an stunning work to have a decent product.

Not a luxury one but worth the price.

  12. Someone inquired on Trip Advisor "how is the smoking on Pullmantur?" because she has a sensistivity (as many of us do!) and needs smoke-free places.

I told her I would post the question on CC.

For those of you who are sensitive, what have you noticed on Pullmantur ships in recent time?

Spanish are not heavy smokers but smoking is really relaxed. While on board the policy is normally strict, just a couple of places for smoking. No smoking in cabins and most public areas.

  13. we are looking to cruise the med or Greek islands next year and looking at cruise lines. we never sailed on this line before. as non Spanish speaker from the USA. is a good fit?? looking at Grand suite anyone booked one before? size extra? and do they have there own web site?
You will get much more to what you pay for. It means that the ratio price vs quality is not bad. I don't know what you mean with good fit. All is in Spanish, with English as second language. It's a budget Spanish cruise company which normaly pleases all those wanting a cheap friendly cruise Spanish way.

We are not bad people but note that etiquette may be different specially in terms of noise, food, all time party, late entretainment and timetables.

Ships are old, but well mainteined, and food is just awesome.

  14. This could spell the end of low single supplements for solo travelers. When Cunard was taken over the supplements went to 75% and when Seabourn was taken over the same thing . Seabourn use to have 25% supplements. I'm not 100% sure but I don't think any of the RCCL corp. lines do any type of discount for solo travelers.:(
I hadn't thought about it. I am getting concerned. I am a solo traveller, cruising Silversea for ages and I feeling I had to find options

  15. I didn’t find the passengers on our recent cruise snobbish at all. We spoke to people from all walks of life on board and didn’t encounter any snobbishness other than 1 particular couple who had, it turned out flown out on Ryanair.

    Maybe that makes me snobbish.

    Oh dear.

Not everybody has a corporate jet to fly back home. Nowadays there's not much difference flying Ryanair or British, Air France and so on. Same pitch, extra charges and so on

You choose Ryanair when it's the only option to flight your local airport.

  16. Good to know, thanks.

3 hours is a bit short though. How much would it be for a full day excursion, say 6 hour wait? Actually, how much would it be to take a taxi from the port in Vigo to Santiago and grabbing a different taxi from Santiago back to the port (i.e., two completely separate taxi rides)? Would it be more than 100 Euros each direction?

Well it would be more. Two different taxis from 2 different cities have to charge you go and back. So four ways. Not the same than the same one. It’s worth paying each extra hour to the same one.

  17. Thanks, JP! We are really happy to have another expedition experience to look forward to! Thanks for the advice about Reykjavic. We won't have long there but will definitely see as much as our day allows. Is there anything in the city itself that you would particularly recommend, in case we decide to stay local and not rent a car?
It's cozy, friendly and so pleasant. Wooden houses, a lovely lake behind downtown and awesome views at the port. The concert hall, the Hallgrímskirkja, and the famous hot dogs by port. The shopping area is not huge but with interesting local shops. Wool pullovers, salt, liquorice chocolate....my favourite view at sunset at the port to the mountains

Go to the Svarta Café for a real local soup into a huge bread.acacab46325eeb2f6cf6463d9dc3dd01.jpg

  18. Thanks! So it sounds like the odds are against the Silversea charter departing from KEF, and I'm really hoping my cruise consultant can give me accurate information soon. Must get those flights booked!
KEF for sure. Most planes which go there are propellers due to it's an urban airport with plenty of restrictions.
