  2. Thank you...Scatterbrain42 kevg1889...

Ill be on the starboard side...so knowing the smoking locations help me...I have an aversion to cigarette smoke and like to avoid it as much as I reasonably can...been on balcony cabins where I could still smell the smoke when I've been on the smoking side..(in ports and en route) knowing what I can to do avoid it is super helpful..

    best!

  3. Just got back from an amazing week on board the Star - full review to follow shortly, but its been a fabulous holiday, visiting the most beautiful ports and all the staff were brilliant

Hi welcome back... I have a question about the ship NCL customer service can't seem to answer...regarding the non smoking side of the ship on the promenade deck...(is is port or starboard and where)I'll be in a balcony cabin for a fall cruise on the NCL Star and would like to avoid second hand smoke that may come from being above the promenade deck...

Did you happen to notice where the allowed smoking areas were?

Starboard or portside? and other places...

    Thanks a bunch!

  4. As a vegan I can tell you that some of my best meals have been aboard NCL - even prior to learning about the Special Access desk. Specific questions that have been asked on this forum:

    • Rennet-free cheese availability: Unsure. I'm not a huge fan of cheese, so I've never asked. Interested to hear the answer though.
    • "Milk" Options: NCL has almond and soy milk. I always call 30 days prior to boarding to have a special request for almond milk as I have been told they tend not to stock a large amount. The brand they use is also gluten-free (some brands have a gluten binding agent)
    • Vegetable soup: Most "vegetable soups" are made with chicken broth on boats - it's a flavor-thing. Ask your waiter or the maitre d' if you can order veggie soup in broth. The kitchen always has plain broth, and usually are willing to throw in some vegetables to make a quick soup (your meal may be delayed / slow though). If you are eating at that same restaurant for more than one day, ask on your first visit - they may be able to accommodate you on your second meal easier.
    • Bread: some breads are made with egg and butter - the sourdough and french bread options are not made with eggs or dairy, but do have yeast.

    Best places to eat:

    1. Buffet: Indian and middle eastern cuisine outstanding. Many of the vegetable dishes are made with oil rather than butter, but always ask. Salad bar is fresh and plentiful, and you can find sorbet at most of the ice cream venues (make sure it's not "sherbet" though). Try the congee option as well - it's a Japanese rice breakfast often served with meat, but can be vegan depending on what you add to the base
    2. Moderno: Yes..I swear! The salad bar is outstanding - especially the hearts of palm. If you have an otherwise carnivorous family, this is a great restaurant to share a meal. Some vegans are uncomfortable around meat in general, so this may not be best option for them
    3. Sushi Restaurant: Depending on your ship, there will be a sushi restaurant that can make you both menu and special order rolls. Veggie, cucumber and seaweed salad with picked daikon rolled in sesame seeds is a personal favorite (as is the sake martini with cucumber...yum)
    4. Haven: If you happen to be in the Haven, they will tailor meals to your dining preferences. I'm completely spoiled by my last trip in which the breakfast buffet was a vegan's dream. Hot cereals are made with water generally all over the ship - oatmeal with dried fruits and granola is a great way to start a vegan day.

I love, love to eat .... and honestly have had good vegan food on Disney, Celebrity, RCL and NCL. You just have to plan ahead a bit and be vocal and persistent about your requests.

    Warm regards, Amy

This was a great post to read..I'm planning ahead for a cruise ...last year I planned to eat gluten free and NCL was very accomodating....this year since I'm trying to be more plant based and gluten free it's good to have these tips in mind...Thanks!

  6. Hi fellow JW's. Our group of 4 will be on the Norwegian Spirit on Nov 5th 2016 going from Venice to Barcelona. Just wondering if any other brothers and sisters will be on that cruise?

Enjoy...that looks like an awesome one for 14days right? I'm actually planning for the NCL Jade 7-Day Adriatic & Mediterranean from Venice

October 23, 2016 ... to Barcelona...I hope you get to meet other witnesses...

    :)

  7. Hi..Friends...

I created a JW Cruiser group here on CC so here is the link: (hope it works..so much I still don't understand about this website) http://boards.cruisecritic.com/group.php?groupid=1446

BTW...I created a FB JW Cruise group but deleted it since it was just me ...(it was getting lonely there...totally JK lol)...but if there are a number of us on FB and enough to form a group with a few Admins I think it would be great...(it's time consuming I think to have just one person admin IMO)

So if you are on FB and would like to connect...you can search me: meng miao ling (my name is in chinese) and if you find me please send me an intro and how you fount me via CC...(otherwise I will hestitate to accept a friend request bc I don't know you and the connection)

FB is good to bc more ways for notifications and creating event stuff and communication...(I just went on here today and somehow missed all the recent posts and I'm subscribed to this...so I dunno why) but it's good to connect here as well...

Let me know what you think...

CC doesnt' want FB groups endorsed here...so if we send out friend requests via FB we can maybe take it from there... (it was hard to even share the group address I had posted on the JW cruise group here on CC) ...

    any ideas feedback etc...lmk

    Thanks!

    Melinda

  8. Hey Sorry we haven't been on in a while. But there are six (4 adults 2 children) of us going on September 20!!! :)

We're trying to plan we're we are going for dinner and entertainment etc.

We have never been to Bermuda and we were going to try to make the Wednesday night meeting but we were told that the CO visit is next Tuesday so we would probably have to try and make a Thursday night meeting.

Its all up in the air right now. We're just excited that its this Sunday!

We are Mitchell and Tosha I'm going to try to log into the fb page.

    Hi...

I'm glad you told me about the meeting change...I was planning to go wednesday... the congregation meeting in Hamilton right?

I'm wondering how to work out a thursday meeting in..since I was planning to take the ferry and it runs late on a wednesday night... (I'm gona use the transportation pass for the 3 days...more on that later...)

My real name is Melinda btw...lol

Also my cabin number is #11172

    here is my email address...

    galookiemac@gmail.com

  9. Hi..so I created a group on Facebook it's call JW Cruise Travelers..if you'd like to join...let me know who you are when you try and join...

I though it would be a good way to connect...facebook has alot more notifications features...

And the JW cruisers group on here doesnt seem to have that and I find it difficult to keep up and in touch with it..

btw my face book name is in chinese but if you type: meng miao ling

or JW Cruise Travelers you can find the group or me...

(For some reason I can't use a link on this website)

  10. New to Boards but not new to cruising!

So happy to have found this group. My wife and I have been on several cruises but not much luck finding my brothers and sisters.

This year we're taking another Brother and his wife with us on the Breakaway. We're going to Bermuda and we're hoping to meet up with some of the friends at a Wednesday night meeting. Since we will be docked at Bermuda for 3 days, if we're lucky we'll go out in service.

Hope to be able to go on cruise with you guys one year!

Hi...when are you cruising on the Breakaway...I'm curious because I'll be on the Breakaway September 20th...

  11. How do I get invited to you JW site? Looking for other JW's that might be cruising when we do. Upcoming August 9 on Dream NOLA.

    Sue

Hi...been checking in on the website and came accross your post...

I added you to the JW group...but not sure if you got the invite...

  12. Hi- I don't want to give you the wrong information but believe I had walking space to get to the balcony leading me to believe that the bed was closer to the hall.

I do remember being told though when I booked it- I think if you get the right person they should be able to confirm. I'll look to see if I took any pictures-

Thanks for that...It's ok if you cant' get a photo...I can ask...I was Mainly curious bc I was thinking of borrowing my friends folding bike to explore the island and the area in the room it could fit best in..

But I'm opting not to bring it...Ill just explore the island by the public transportation..I want to go to the beaches mostly ...and not tire myself riding around on a bicycle all day... I'll make that a next time trip

  13. Hi...I'm looking into SUP-ing in Bermuda while there...

Can you give me an idea what the rates are for SurfSup...

Also how late and early are they open for rentals..

I've seen advertisements and info for Sup-ing at snorkel beach park..which ranges $30 per hour...

    Thanks

  14. Hello I actually stayed in that exact room last year because it was near the studio entrance and not right next to the elevator. I did not find it loud and am pretty sure the sofa was closer to the balcony

Hi...By the way...can you remember if the bed was close to the Balcony or the sofa was close to the balcony?

  15. I've never been on the breakaway and wondering if anyone has stayed in this room? Is the bed by the balcony? Is it noisy ? What are really good balcony rooms on this ship??

Hi ..did yoy aready cruise on this Cabin or going to...

I've booked the same cabin for the end of September to Bermuda..

Was wondering how was it for you...

I mainly chose it because it's close to the stairs and Elevators... and in the front part of the ship..making it easy to get to the Thermal Spa (Deck 14 front...a priority) and is not close to any decks you have to worry about noise... and it doesn't seem to close to the elevator area so you don't have to worry about people congestion/noise (although I usually bring earplugs wherever I travel just in case)

it is consider BA category which is:

    according to advertisement...

    Mid-Ship Balcony

Stay mid-ship and stay closer to the action. When it’s time to retreat, open floor-to-ceiling glass doors onto your private balcony. Now that’s a vacation that runs on your speed.
