  1. Thank you. I usually also contact the cruise line to find out how many children are sailing. Celebrity cruises have said that they do not give this information out???

I was asking about the number of kids on the Thanksgiving day cruise on Grandeur, and last year they had about 150, and that was a 10 day cruise. With homeschooling on the rise in many areas, you will often find kids on some of these longer cruises over Thanksgiving. I know I was bummed that ours was only 8 days - I would have booked the 10 day if it was offered :).

    Enjoy your cruise.

  2. Thats soo true. A few kids would be nice , just one or two for them to connect with..

my kids will miss 4 days of school as you mentioned we get 2 weekends so its not too bad..

    Thanks for your feedback

UOTE=cruiserjt;44014433]We have sailed with our twin DDs 9 days over Thanksgiving and 14days over Christmas - sometimes it depends upon how the days line up - if it includes both weekends and the kids are off Thursday and Friday (mine are off Wednesday before Thanksgiving as well). Then they are only missing two or three days of school. I would do that again in a second.

We wish for a lot of kids so ours can make friends - but then it gets pretty busy - Many years ago (my first life) - we cruised and were seated at dinner with a family with their son who shared my son's birthday -10 years old. Both loved video games and were best friends by the end of day 2. They didn't care if there were 100 or 2 other kids on board!

  3. Hello all

My family and I have booked a 10 night cruise on the Equinox over Thanksgiving break. Has anyone with kids done a longer cruise on the line?

We have a 10 and 15 year old.. the itinerary is great , I'm just hoping there will be other families onboard at this time.. i have joined the roll call but not seen lots of evidence of families.

i guess I'm just wanting any input from others who may have sailed on longer cruises which traditionally dont have lots of kids sailing.. we have cruised Princess, RCL, HAL but wanted to try Celebrity this time..

    Any feedback would be appreciated..

  4. What are the Fun Factory hours? I am assuming it is $6.00 a hour for dinner also? We are going Thanksgiving week, do both M Class & S Class ships have this option?

What ship are you sailing on?

As far as im aware there is no charge iin the evening..Im also sailing thanksgiving with my children..

  5. Hi,

this info is great, thanks... We go in November for 10 day Thanksgiving, do you think there will be lots of kids activities then?

    How is the teen program?

Well said, everybody. Here's how it looks:

    9am - 12am Activities -- Free

    12 - 2pm "Lunch Party" on port days ($6/per child/per hour)

~ ~12 we take the kids to the cafe,

~ ~1pm they're back in the Fun Factory

    or

12 - 2pm "Quiet time" on sea days, no food served

    2pm - 5pm Activities -- Free

5pm - 7pm "Dinner Party" ($6/per child/per hour when in port, free on sea days)

~ ~ 5pm, quiet time in the Fun Factory

~ ~ 6pm, we take the kids to the cafe

    7pm - 10pm Activities -- Free

    10 pm to 1am "Slumber Party" ($6/per child/per hour)

A VIP pass is also available allowing you to pay up-front. It offers a 40% discount if you were to bring a child for every charge session (there are some who do!), but if you even average a couple hours of charge a day, it's worth it because it also includes back stage and bridge tours plus a goody bag of prizes. Check the ages for the tours - they were recently changed (not our fault!) not allowing under 5 on the bridge.

Everything is on a drop-in basis, people leave them anywhere from 20 min to all day. We ask that the children be picked up after 6 consecutive hours for at least a one hour break, rest and time with family. Of course, if you're in port on an excursion for the day, we make exceptions to this! Otherwise, it's a long day, esp for a tiny child without Mommy and Daddy. Even the bigger ones get tired, though they beg to stay with us.

The activities vary from ship to ship depending upon the manager and itinerary, but all the ships will mostly have Pirate Hunt, Alien Night, and Dino afternoon (etc) for the 3-5 and 6-8 yr olds plus Family Disco, Bingo, Talent Show for all ages.

Hope this info helps. I'm one of the seasonal staff, brought in during school holidays. I've been a teacher at home for 25 yrs, began working for Celebrity when my own kids flew the coop, 5 yrs ago. Love it, great facility, great coworkers, great kids. Just got off of Solstice last week, I'll be on Equinox all summer.

    Any questions, just ask.

Thanks for your reply . I realze its a longer cruise gut hope as you rightlyvsay a holiday cruise should attract more families... Im excited to finally try Celebrity.. It doesnt need to be a kiddy ship and my kids are quitecwell travelled..

From your description sounds like fun.. i hear that give you a glass of champagne when you board, is this true?

  7. Do you think there will be kids even on the 10 day.. I don't expect loads but hoping there will be a good number for my two to enjoy especially my teen.

I have heard such great reviews of the line. This will be our first celebrity cruise..

Yes the Fun Factory will ALWAYS remain open. It is never closed even if there is only one child onboard. So fear not. Over thanksgiving there will be plenty of kids and your grandchildren will have a fantastic time.

My son has cruised Celebrity since he was 6 months old and he LOVES Celebrity- more than Princess, Holland or Royal. So that says a lot.

  8. THANK YOU SO MUCH...

I'm so excited about this cruise and trying HAL! plus all the great ports...

Bon Voyage Everyone !!! Have a great cruise and a wonderful time!!!

  9. I really don't like cigarette smoke, and i never realized this may be an issue when booking the Cabanas.. Just irritates my nose and stuff..

I specifically asked if smoking was allowed in the retreat and was told no. That was last November. Either things changed or the cabana guys just didn't say anything.
  10. YES , very true..

I have booked the sunset grande for our family in JA with resort for a day..

should be a great port day for us....

The culture can be challenging and sometimes you are hit with so much of it so quickly. There is a huge language barrier with the dialect (patois) and the different accents.

Three days on the Carnival Magic sharing this so I decided to post it here.

  11. So many people say that HAL doesnt have children but lots of parents says they are cruised with them with kids. This will be our first HAL cruise this month and they confirmed they will have 120 kids on the Thanksgiving cruise..

I'm sure they will do something for your son.

I'm looking forward to my teen and 9 yo having a great time on a ship not overrun with kids...

  12. Thank you for your posts, your picture are lovely and very helpful.. I have been to the island many times.. Lots to enjoy but as you say many dislike it due to pushiness of peddlers..

    great posting...

Here is one of the reasons half the people go to Jamaica and have a good time and the other half hate it. In the culture, real people, there is no response as NO THANK YOU. It's no or thank you wish means yes. If you say no thank you , meaning no/yes, some will hear the no and move on, others the thank you, meaning yes and keep hassling you. It's best to simply say no or no I am good, meaning good without it and move on.

Do not hold anything. Holding something is a way of giving someone something but in your case expect to pay.

If you are offered herb, of course don't say no thank you, that's no/yes. Who knows if they got the no part or the thank you /yes part. Don't bother replying I don't do drugs, to many it's a herb that grows like weed. Simply reply you don't smoke, many won't expect you to start just to help them out. If you smoke be careful.

As for the men, ladies no matter what they look like, no teeth, no shirt, no shoes, they think they can make you happy. Any eye contact and a smile could be interpreted as an invitation to fun. Yeah you will be expected to pay for the fun . Sadly some do.

Asking, it's a gift. You could be asked for anything from money to your child.

    This is Jamaica beyond excursions.
