  1. Hi from Australia,

We flying to San Francisco and are visiting friends in Reno, Nevada prior to our Alaskan cruise on the Royal Princess 7th September 2024.

Can anyone tell me what is the easiest/best way to travel from Reno to Vancouver a few days prior to our cruise.

Have tried to research it but its totally confusing and looks very expensive 😞

If you spot a Morrisons supermarket on your travels, I always think that they do a very good value "make your own" salad.

Thanks fruitmachine, I'll keep an eye out for Morrisons.  And thanks for all your valuable Edinburgh info across the boards, it's one of our ports.

The options are endless?   Southampton is a university town and major cruise centre

so eateries are everywhere.   It will depend on your budget and taste.  There are many

Pubs that provide meals and you are very close to the west quay shopping centre which does dining and snacks  = https://www.west-quay.co.uk/dine/cafes-takeaways

You can also open googlemaps and check restaurants for prices.

Thanks Aulanis but one thing I found is that when you check the menus on their websites, they give nutritional values of each meal but not prices.  Am I missing something or is that common practice in UK?

  4. Hi, we are staying at Premier Inn West Quay Southampton in August for a week between cruises.

Researching this forum has given us lots on our "to do" list to keep us busy but now we are looking for thoughts on reasonably priced places where we can eat plus anywhere we can buy snacks, sandwiches etc.

As our Australian dollar is approx half of the British pound, any help would be much appreciated.

  5. Great to see Princess they are adding new ports to keep it interesting.

This years world cruise had to shelter off Esperance WA for a day until the weather improved so going north to the warmer climate is a good idea.

We missed Sri Lanka, Germany and Easter Island because of the weather so there is never any guarantees you will make it into every port. Such is the cruising life :)

    Marg.

  6. Hi Marg,

I'm not 100% sure about deck 5 but there's usually one on nearly every deck of a Princess ship.

    Trish

Thanks Trish, I can see one on every other deck except for Deck 5.

Hoping someone will know yeh or nay:)

  7. Looking at http://www.sydneyports.com.au/port_operations/cruise_schedule the Sea Princess is at due to depart OPT on Tuesday 5 Jun 2018 and returns to the OPT 95 days later on the 8 Sep 2018.

Thanks By The Bay, I didnt think to check Sydney Ports.

95 days for Sea Princess is certainly intriguing (10 days short of this years world cruise but 20 days longer then Circle Pacific) plus Sun Princess has 43 days leaving 25 May and 35 days leaving 7 July

If we can rely on the Ports info being locked in then it seems like Princess are changing things. Maybe they are going to surprise us with a larger ship coming downunder cause there are plenty of vacant days on the port schedule :)

  8. Checked my emails and on the 4th Sept last year the web was awash with details and to register your interest for 2017 Winter Season from Australia which was released on 2nd October 2015.

It appears Princess arent ready to release 2018 Winter Season yet .... maybe it's going to be something amazingly different which would be great :)

  9. Thanks everyone for your helpful information.

We were wondering if it is a good option to catch a taxi from Dover cruise terminal direct to Folkestone instead of a taxi to Dover Priory and then a bus to Folkestone?

Will it save us time and are there taxi's readily available when we return to Folkestone at abt 8pm to take us back to the ship? Also, any idea how much the taxi cost would be and how long the trip is?

Any info would be appreciated :)

  10. Hi from Australia,

We are on the Sea Princess 9th July docking at Dover for one day and want to go my train to London.

Someone on our Roll Call mentioned that the sea wall was fixed but I cant find any info to support that.

Does anyone know what the current state of repairs to sea wall are?

    Many thanks

  11. DH and I are also in the early planning stages of South America around the horn plus Machu Picchu and we're also trying to figure out the best way to do it. A cruisetour would be the easiest but also the most expensive, and maybe a private tour would be a better experience than Princess. What I'm running into is that the itinerary I want is only Jan-Feb, which seems to be the "wrong" time to visit MP because of the possibility of heavy rains. I haven't emailed any tour operators yet to see what they recommend; are there any more recommendations besides Adios Adventure Travel?

    Hi Pompeii,

We are doing a shore excursion to Machu Picchu with Jaime Liebrecht of Patagonia Shorex next year on our world cruise. He is very highly recommended by previous years of world cruisers who say their trip with him was the highlight of their cruise.

    Hope this helps :)

  12. Hi,

Have been following this thread as we also are spending a day in Aqaba, on the Sea Princess June 2016.

We are part of a group doing Petra and sunset at Wadi Rum with Jordan Inspiration Tours. They have great reviews and are an extremely professional and friendly company with good prices and in our opinion, well worth a mention.

    Enjoy :)

  13. Hi,

My partner and I are doing 3 b2b cruises next year.

Our travel agent checked into it. Because we leave from Sydney..that's the foreign port.

Sydney to Hawaii..Hawaii to Vancouver then Vancouver to Seattle via Alaska.

Lets hope they got it right ;)

Have been following this topic as being an Australian I am unfamiliar with the Jones Act.

Your cruises are similar to what I would like to do from Sydney and if possible, cruise back to Sydney, so will be keen to know if it is ok to do :)

    Enjoy your cruises webstar104 :)
