Numerous things, an anode rod for example. Minerals in the water like iron.
like I said, all speculation, your last word
Sorry iron does not smell and taste like mildew... You took what I said about the water on a RC ship way too personal do you work for the company? or you just do this to raise your post count like others have said on some of the other threads you comment on ?
-
First of all it would have to be mildew:rolleyes:
What we have here is speculation and drama
Well if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck....
But one quick question, what do you think would be the cause of drinking water that smells like mildew and tastes like it smells ?

My family and I have done a Bernard's tour and it was fantastic and very well priced. I personally would use them again with no hesitation.

The taste of the water has nothing to do with its safety.
You don't think the taste and smell of mildew is a safety concern ?

I in no way meant to imply that the seltzer water would kill the bacteria or mold, I know that is not possible.
What I meant to convey was that if the soda heads are cleaned periodically, every other day or so as my friend does, by soaking them in seltzer water, Before the mold and bacteria form, and also drying them thoroughly each evening as he does, the mold and bacteria condition will not occur in the first place.
I've seen it first hand, the fizzing bubbling action from the carbon dioxide somehow does work, he then rinses them and dries them after he closes. I have never tasted that nasty taste in any drinks at his place.
Yes that I agree with you ... The club soda with help keep them clean. But the issue on the Empress is they are way past that to the point that you can smell it even when your in the shower so it's much more then keeping the soda fountain heads clean.

I also got off this morning. We drank water in the dining room, windjammer, from the dispenser on the pool deck and from the tap in the room without any issues. The water did not smell at all strange coming from our shower. I did not drink any fountain soda this cruise so I can not comment on that. I drank more water than usual because I decided the price of the soda package was too high

There were five of us on at the same time you were and we all could taste it and smell it. Let's put it this way it was so bad guest services and the the bar manager for the entire ship didn't even bother denying it or at least say they were going to look into the problem.

The mold and mildew tastes from the fountain sodas and from the bars is from not cleaning the heads. They need to be cleaned periodically simply by soaking them in seltzer water. That cleans them and keeps the mold away. I learned that from a friend who owns a bar. As far as the shower????
The bacteria in mold and mildew won't die from seltzer water no matter how long you soak it if that was the case people wouldn't need to spend tens of thousands of dollars when they are fighting mold in their houses they would just get some seltzer water.

It's just old ships water tank taste.
They just spent 50 million updating the ship you would think clean safe drinking water would be a priority

I think i would have "squeaked louder" My now deceased mother could have gotten you a free cruise...........she did for us. The water was the swamps!!
Call resolutions for a future cruise discount.
The moment I got home I was on the phone with them... They said since the cruise ended a few hours ago they didn't have the incident downloaded yet.
I will keep everyone posted on the final outcome

Thanks for coming back to report - that's great. I'm happy for you but calling people names who were only replying to a question or trying to help you is uncalled for.
It's not that I singled out any single person but there are too many people who are alarmists who always post the "what ifs" instead of facts.

No I was not comped at all and was not even offered an explanation... They reluctantly refunded my two soda packages when I refused to pay $ 100 for 12 cans of soda that they offered me. They did not even offer a single bottle of water for me and my family.

For all the Chicken Littles out there I am back home from a 5 night cruise and I parked my car offsite guess what? My car was still there and it was in the same exact condition as I left it and it had all the original factory parts too.

Just got home from a cruise on the Empress of the Seas and there is something really wrong with the water on the ship. All the fountain drinks and water tastes and smells like mildew or algae. It even happened when you turned on the faucet or shower.
Drinking water, soda or ice tea that has algae or mildew can not be a safe thing.

I was on deck 10 three cabins from the aft and it was a perfect view of the aqua shows, boardwalk, and the wake of the ship.

Belize ... The port looks like an old foreign prison movie because of the barbed wire and steel gate. Once they open that gate to let you out then you realize why they have a big steel gate and barbed wire. Unless you have an excursion booked don't even bother getting off the ship.

I went to Falmouth not Mo Bay felt safe in the taxis just take small bills with you they will try hard to convince you to let them keep the change as their tip.

We are leaving Saturday on the Empress and have two cabins with obstructed views. I will let you how it turned out.

I just hate that very long 15 minute drive to the cruise terminal from my house here in Ft Lauderdale :D
-
Ya what he said :)
-
Me either.
I remember a couple of years ago reading about them stealing parts out of cars and replacing them with old parts and the people not finding out until a couple of months later when the cars broke down.
Do you honestly think thieves would take the time to steal car parts and then install other parts in your car ? Kinda reminds me of a Steven Wright joke...He said someone broke into his apartment and stole everything and replaced it with the exact duplicate

Lots of horror stories posted here about problems with off site parking lots. I would do lots of homework or bite the bullet and park at POM: convenient, covered and secure.
It is your car - do you feel lucky?
I personally done my homework and made an educated choice ...There are lots of horror stories about going on a cruise ship should the poster cancel her cruise all together to be on the safe side ? Even the onsite POM parking I am sure has it's horror stories too.

It's called Premier cruise parking they are at the corner 2nd Ave. and 14th street here is the link

I am really not trying to be mean but you booked a long cruise with hardly any port days and you can't understand why you only saw water.. I am not quite sure what you were expecting to see out in the middle of the ocean.
