Charlene I have a question about Anchorage. Where do we dock there and how do we get into town? Someone told me you have to take a train. Is that true? I saw that someone said they rented a car. How difficult is that? TIA

The decline in food quality has nothing to do with how the passengers dress and everything to do with the desires of the cruising public for cut-rate fares. You'll still find high quality dining with superior presentation in the specialty restaurants.

 

BTW, the majority of the 'higher quality' cruise lines do not do formal/gala/chic nights but are smart casual all the time in all dining venues. Those cruise lines that have implemented special dining areas for suites passengers do not observe formal/gala/chic nights in those venues either.

One of the things I liked best about Oceania was no formal nights with smart casual in the dining room for dinner! Also no photographers harassing you and specialty restaurants were no charge!

So, everyone is discussing what men wear. What about women? I have not worn a dress in years! I wear dress slacks and fancy top. Is this not acceptable?

Icy Straight Point is my least favorite port in Alaska! When we were there there was no wifi, took bus to town but there was nothing there, no excursions we were able to do. That was a few years ago, so hoping it is better now!

Looking forward to arriving there on the Maasdam on July 12! Sounds beautiful. My fourth Alaska cruise but first time to Anchorage, Kodiak and Homer!

Well, I have just read 10 pages of people making lists of all the same things. You would think if someone was going to add they would actually add not re list things. There are many good ideas, but do they need to be on 100 posts? I kept reading hoping to actually find more things one would not think to bring.

Answer to the shoe bag hanging problem. I buy one at Dollar Tree and there is usually a metal hook on bathroom wall. I just poke hole in bag and use it there. Only a dollar and toss at the end of cruise.
