  1. If you are traveling by yourself and are not a big drinker I think the bar hop might be a good choice for you. You get to see the other side of the island and meet other people on your tour. Driving a car by yourself wouldn't probably be any cheaper or as much fun.

If there are two or more of you then I would rent a car. To me the Bus Hop isn't worth it for people who like to drink or are part of a group. All your really gettinig is your transportaion and a few watered down shots. You still have to pay for food and drinks. But as you said your not really a drinker so that may work for you.

If you feel like relaxing on a nice beach you don't have to go to Nachi Cocom. Unless they have a pay as you go price it wouldn't be worth 55.00pp if you don't drink. Plus you don't get to see much of the island.

Your post starts out sounding like you are with at least one other person (we). But then you use (I) a lot so it seems like you might be traveling alone. So as I stated above it really depends on how many are traveling with you. For two people on the bus hop it would be around 115.00 for the two of you. You can rent a car for less then this and be on youir own schedule. If I was traveling alone I would do the bar hop.

Hope this helps and isn't too confusing:)

  2. I think topcop has a legitimate complaint. He paid to go to St John not Caneel Bay. Of course the weather isn't the captain's fault. But it is very disappointing to have your plans altered at the last minute. You should have a choice of whether you want to go or get your money back. Maybe he was just warning the OP so they know it is a possibility that it may happen to them. Most people look forward to their cruises for months. Taking the time to decide on what they would like to do in each port. Being anchored off a small beach like Honeymoon is nothing compared to going to St John.

Also this is a forum to inform other cruisers of your experience whether it is good or bad. You should be able to do this without being balled out or called ridiculous. He didn't even remember the name of the company so how did he give them a bad review?

  3. DH and I went to Morningstar beach for a couple of hours last Feb. It wasn't a bad beach to spend a few hours on. Water was a little wavy/rough but not too bad. I went in it and I don't like rough water.

If you plan on having any adult beverages plan on paying an arm and a leg for them. If I remember correctly beers were around $5.00 or $6.00. Fancy drinks were $10.00 and up. To expensive for our budget. Luckily someone told us that the little store inside the hotel has bottles of beer for 3.00 so that is where we got our beverages. But the only problem is that it is a long walk to get there. But it's a nice walk up (hotel is on a hill) through the hotel grounds with nice landscaping and nice views. We even saw several iquanas sunning them selves on the rocks. The store is on the second floor (if I remember correctly). Just wanted to let you know that option is available. If you decide to do this it might make sense to bring a small cooler so the beers stay cold on the walk back.

At the taxi area by the ship they put us in with other people going to MS so I think it was only 4.00pp each way.

I would post some pictures here but I don't know how...sorry!

  5. Being DH and I have been to Belize twice before we thought we would skip the tours and stay around the port. First time we were there we did cave tubing, second time we did the ruins (forget the name) and river wallace tour. Nothing really sounds that good to us so we figured we would take our time getting off the ship and just walk around and stop for a beer or two. Maybe do a little souvinier shopping.

We would like to venture out of the tourist area and into town. From reading some of the post about how scary it is I was leaning toward not doing it. But after reading thescott123's post and watching the you tube video (if you haven't watched it you really should) from the link he posted I think we will be perfectly safe. From the video it looked like mostly Belizians going about there everyday lives. There was also some tourist walking around not being bothered. I think as long as you don't do something foolish like taking back roads and alleys where there aren't any people or hopping in a car with someone you don't know you would be perfectly safe. Plus it's during the day. I wouldn't venture outside the gate after dark unless I was with a large group. But us cruisers don't really have to worry about that being we are back on the ship before it turns dark.

I'm not going to Belize until January but when I get back I will try and remember to post what our experience was like for those of you that would like to venture "Beyond The Gate":D

  6. I'm bumping up this thread because I just saw this tour on the Island Marketing website and I'm really interested it doing it. Its called "Wild about Roatan Wildlife".

For 42.00 a person you get to see quite a bit. I especially like it that they take you to a wild bird rehabilation center...that is right up my alley!

So Michael Browning if your still around...did you go on this tour? Has anyone else been on it? The OP listed the link to it but I'll put it here again for those of you that missed it.

  7. I'm surprised your driver waited an hour! That wasn't fair to the rest of you that showed up on time! I don't get mad very easy but I think that would have really made me mad! Especially with your limited time in port. The driver should have waited 10-15 mins at the most!

  8. Only 30 mins at the beach...that's a bummer! How long did you wait for the inconsiderate couple that never showed up? DH and I took the Fun-N-Sun tour last Feb. Even after showing us the scenic area for photo ops and going to Victor's "Monkey Business" we still had 3 hrs on the beach! It was only suppose to be for two hours but our group wanted to stay longer so the driver said we can stay for 3 hrs and would still make it back to the ship in time. Which we did. We had to get right on the ship but that was okay with us.

  9. lilmizz,

I wish there was a tropical bird watching tour! DH and I (especially me) love birds of all kinds. I'm sure there are a lot of cool ones in the Caribbean. Unfortunately none of the islands seem to offer a tour like this.

We went on the Fun N Sun tour with Victor Bodden last time we were in Roatan. We did enjoy it, but this time I would like to go bird watching to see some wild birds that are not caged. Other then renting a car and going off on our own to look for birds and wildlife I guess we're out of luck:(

Have fun with what ever you decide to do. Roatan is a very beautiful island.:)

  10. Loucat, why did you say "and probably safer now with Princess and Carnival having left. Less tourists go there." We are sailing on the Carnival Dream in Feb, 2013 with a stop scheduled in Costa Maya.

  11. Priceline winning bid:

    Nov 4-7 2010

3* Admiral Fell Inn/Baltimore Inner Harbor

bid accepted at 48.00 per night for 3nights

    total 172.56 (144.00 +taxes and fees 28.56)

I was totally shocked when my bid was accepted. Especially because it is over 5 months away!

Normally I may try several months before our trip, but never win a bid until a month or so before the date we need. (I just think it's fun trying so I start long before the date we need)

I started out bidding for a 3.5 star near BWI. I started at 45.00 which was not accepted.

Next I lowered it to a 3*, didn't change the zone but up the price to 47.00. This also was not accepted. Next I added Inner Harbor and up the price 1$ to 48.00. This was accepted! I never expected to get Inner Harbor at that price even though I did see a couple of people did get that same hotel for a few dollars a night more. But 5 months in advance...unbelieveable!!!

From what I've read we will be charged 10.00 more per night at the hotel. Although this is not mentioned on the winning bid confirmation. I'm only going by what I have read here on cruise critic. Even though I don't agree with an extra charge (for what?) I am still very happy with the price I got for this area. Plus this hotel gets good reviews on Trip Advisor! It's rated #4 of 70 hotels for popularity!:)

  12. My winning bid was $57.00 for the Holiday Inn Fishermans Wharf in SF. My Dates are 4-23-4-27. The 4 night total including tax was 270.71. I was actually bidding for a 2.5 star and was upgraded to a 3 star. Afterward I checked the online prices including the Holiday Inn and the cheapest room was 187.00 + tax per night. So I'm a happy camper.
