  1. Wait until the first port by a cheap bottle or a take home bottle and then the bottles of what you want to drink onboard. Put it all in your backpack coming back aboard ship. I have an LL Bean backback with two large compartments.  The screening personnel will ask if you have alcohol in your pack, say yes. The table where you check the alcohol is always 50 feet or more from screening.  Walk over check the cheap bottle or a really good one you want to bring home, and walk to your cabin with all the rest.  Wrap the smuggled bottles in towels so they don’t clink and give you up. There is no communication between screening and liquor check station.  This applies to Carnival, NCL, RCL, and Celebrity. Always been successful,  I’ve been tempted to just walk by check in table communication is so lax. You’re Welcome!!

  2. If you change your US $$ to Canadian or Euros you will not loose the 10% off the top when getting CUC. You will loose a little on the transaction at your bank here as well as the Cuban exchange office but no where near the 10 % they take on US$$.

  3. Drake, a bit of a different question here. Do any of the nearby beach bars have TV that would be carrying the NFL playoffs ? We are there on January 14 on the Summit and our favorite NFL team might be playing that day. Or any bars that show the games near the pier? Thanks

  4. I live in the northeast and reserved our cruise as a retirement vacation Jan 13 for my DW and myself. We are booked on the Celebrity Summit. Our big concern with winter cruises is flights to the destination, insurance or not. I currently have 3 hotel reservations in San Juan that are fully refundable and cancellable up to 2 days before. I suspect that they will all eventually be cancelled due to FEMA and other more important reasons than my cruise. Fortunately we are on Southwest so flight changes are easy. My solution to the problem is simple, fly to Florida on the 10th and enjoy some Florida time and hop on the 635 nonstop to SJU from MCO. Problem solved, no weather or PR issues to deal with.

  6. I recommend getting you picture taken at a post office that accepts passport applications. Some of the other places that take photos don't always get them right the acceptance offices get them right.

  7. My DW and I are both in our early 50's and have done both cruises. By far and away our favorite is the cruise out of San Juan. The ports on this cruise are some of the best in the Carribbean. If you can squeeze in extra time in San Juan it is great we stayed is Isle Verde and it was great. We stayed at the El San Juan Hotel and Casino. Watch the Web site and you can get a good deal but you need to check every day. We took a tour to the rainforest and to the bio-bay in Fajardo it was awesome.
