  1. If you take the credit and want an hotel that is within walking distance of most things in the centre, I recently stayed at the Skuggi hotel. I was on a Greenland expedition with Adventure Canada in July and this was one of the hotels they recommended. It's not luxurious but the rooms are stylish and comfortable. It doesn't have its own restaurant, but I walked to many very good restaurants. Just 4 minutes walk away is the Hlemmur Food Hall in what was an old bus station. I found this very good for lunch and snacks.

  2. For us, it would be a matter of comfort for my husband who has developed a tremor and can no longer stand or sit for long periods. That sounds contradictory. He definitely cannot stand for any length of time but if he is sitting for a while on the type of chair in the terminal his leg (the affected limb) becomes numb, so he gets very uncomfortable. He is very resistant to a walker as he feels he doesn’t need one, as walking is not a problem per se. This has curtailed our travel and we now only book business class when flying because of the early boarding, and would welcome the opportunity to board earlier if we booked a suite on Regent that offered this.

  3. We were in a Grand Suite on the Navigator. At that time, 2011, it wasn't posted as a perk of the suite but my husband asked our butler if it would be possible to have this instead of the daily canapés which were something that we found unnecessary. I think we may have had it twice.

  4. We had this on our last Regent cruise and it came with mini blinis, chopped hard boiled egg, and sour cream. A bottle of iced champagne accompanied it as well as a bottle of Stolichnya!

There was no extra charge as we asked for this instead of having canapés each day.

  5. Thank you for that information. We don't mind Air Canada, but it's not our favourite carrier. The advantage of flying with them would be collecting aeroplan miles on the trip. We have never arrived on the day of the cruise's start so are happy that one night's accommodation is included in the level of cabin we propose to book. We don't like layovers so I think we will pay the deviation to ensure that we have non-stop flights. We have an excellent travel agent who is very familiar with Regent, so will leave all that in her capable hands.

  6. Just found a 17 minute video (with 3 commercials) of the suites (sorry poss - even this doesn't show suites below concierge which are basically the same as F1 and F2).

For those of you that have yet to board the Explorer or are onboard now but would like to view other suites, IMO, this is a great way to see them.

They are pretty amazing, but I must admit as being at a total loss as to understand why one would need a grand piano!

  7. Mr. Rumor and all the others who are live blogging, first of all, thank you for taking time out from your vacation! Now, you have inspired us so much so that we have decided to book the Stockholm/London or vice versa on the Explorer next summer to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary - the decision was made at dinner tonight and our lovely travel agent was contacted.

  8. Vlinbin, that is true. We found the balcony very lovely in the Caribbean, and used the front part often. In Alaska, however, where we had terrible weather in July, it was not much use, but it didn't stop us bundling up like Arctic explorers and getting great views of as we approached the glaciers.

TravelCat2, you make the assumption that we asked about the specialty restaurants menus being available to us for room service. We did not. Our son, who was travelling with us decided he wanted to watch a film in the suite rather than come to the MDR and our butler asked him where he would like his food to come from. In the end, he opted for a hamburger and fries!
