  1. I'm not familiar with NCL but we are bringing a small pool for my 20 month old. I believe the one you posted a picture of is about 36" which I think would be fine. The worst they can say is...you can't do that here. My 21 month old that we are cruising with next week on RCCL is a big guy too so I got him something similar. My plan is to set it up near a drain and to bring a bucket and fill with water from the showers, and bring a few small bath/beach toys for him to play with. My backup plan is to use it on our aft balcony.

  2. I am in the same boat, just found out I am pregnant and cruising next week. We are still going and I am going to take precautions. Have you considered just cancelling excursions and staying on the boat? I should note I live in S. Florida and am well-versed in mosquito bite prevention as part of my new daily routine anyway.

  3. We have done set dining many times, but tried YTD on our last Breeze cruise. We really missed the set dining, and in fact the teenage boy in our group who very rarely has planning opinions asked one thing when we booked: "We aren't doing YTD again are we??"

Our experience was pretty lousy. We are a group of five ADULTS, yet they kept trying to seat us as a table for four and pulling up a chair. We found this to be very uncomfortable the first night and despite multiple requests they continued to attempt to seat us this way and we had to ask again once they brought us to the table most nights. I don't feel like we should have to constantly ask to have spots at the table for each of us without being on top of each other!!

Another odd thing was they were in such a rush to seat us "quickly" that the table was never properly set. We were always missing things and having to ask for them...one time bread with no butter, the next night butter with no bread, missing plates and silverware...we have never encountered this with set dining.

The random times that they stopped everything to sing and dance was really, really awkward with YTD as well. During set dining they can do it between courses, usually after the main course I think. With YTD we ran into it before ordering...during dinner...or when we were trying to leave, and one night never saw it.

The plan for us was to find a good server and request them the rest of the trip. We didn't find one that we even liked until about the 4th night, and when we went back to request him the hostess gave us a hard time. They told us he was too busy, and even though we didn't mind waiting they really tried to push us into another server. After insisting we would wait they sat us before he was ready anyway, which he didn't seem to appreciate and that made us feel bad.

One final thing I would note is that my family gets along a little easier when there is a certain time we have to be ready by. Eliminates arguing. My parents who cruise with us especially might not get ready until the last minute making it very difficult for us to get to shows on time afterward. If you travel with people who take their sweet time to get ready and have to be pried out of the room, you will know what I'm talking about. We love that no matter what separate ways we go during the day, we can all meet up at a specific time for dinner.

In the end we missed the organization of the set time dining and would never do YTD again. YMMV.

  4. We did this on our last cruise, I do believe that on the six day cruise we paid for a full six days. I wouldn't do it again, we felt pressured to get "our money's worth". We definitely did, and were also able to hand off some of our drinks to our family traveling in another cabin. One night though we drank too much, we each hit the 15 limit in a short time and missed the following sea day due to hangover  We both agreed, we would rather not "feel" like we have to drink so much. We are just not the type to drink all day long, either we drink by the pool and not at night, or not during the day and a few cocktails during dinner.

  5. We did this in Cayman back in 2010. I can't remember what we paid but it was much cheaper than the cruise line sponsored tours. It became a very private tour sponsored by a nice gentleman and his wife, he took myself, my husband, and one other couple on his personal boat out to the stingrays. We got to spend a lot of one on one time with the rays. Then he took us out to a nice snorkeling spot, and back to port with plenty of time to spare. He and his wife made us drinks (rum punch) and offered us snacks on the boat. We had a great time on this spontaneous trip. I never felt unsafe- we found them right off the dock where a lot of people were trying to pick up people for tours.. These days I prefer to book ahead of time but never really worry about booking with outside vendors.

  6. We sailed in 2325 and 2321 (connected balconies for our party of five), which is right under the forward restaurant. We spent a lot of time in the cabin and never heard a single noise coming from above or elsewhere. It was our first balcony cabin and it was great to have a meeting place for our families. I loved being close to the water line. Below are the connected balconies opened up, the room itself and the view when we woke up in Key West.
