    Same thing happened to us.

So the next time, I just took it out of my hand-carry bag and placed it inside the TSA bin.

They opened the box and asked: "What is it?"

I said: "It's a crystal block given by Royal Caribbean". He said : "Nice!"

    * Much easier and faster than the first time through TSA. I had it in the bottom of my full backpack.

That would have been easier and what I’ll do next time around. This time I was curious since so many appear to have the opinion it’s just glass. Sort of my little test to see if it was just glass or real leaded crystal.
I knew enough not to put it in my checked luggage. That would have necessitated the TSA rummaging and routing around my dirty skivvies and who needs that?

  2. For those who think they’re made of glass, they’re not. We just received our first block and I took it through security on our flight home. The x-ray machines don’t see through leaded crystal, and they had to remove the block because the x-ray wouldn’t penetrate it. We had this issue years ago when brining home pieces from the Waterford Crystal store in Ireland

  3. I have not and will not read through every post.

I will state our opinion as we exit Ovation of the Seas post 8 night Alaskan Cruise.
die to illness, we had stayed away from cruising for 14 years. Our last cruise was the inaugural year on Oasis and we had to cancel our inaugural year cruising on Allure. That’s the time gap between experiences.

food quality overall was poor for lunch and dinner. We always managed to have a good breakfast on the MDR but not so good the one time we tried Windjammer. My chicken parm at Jammies was overcooked and tough. That was a big disappoint. In the MDR we never could get refills on our sodas. They put brown gravy on the prime rib, which was so thin of a cut you could see light through it if you held it up. The grilled NY strip steak was as bad. Fortunately we were in a JS and could utilize Coastal Kitchen for a couple of dinners. That experience was more in line with what we recall the MDR to be.

To be honest, it looked as if they were training a lot of first contract employees. That would explain the service. They were trying hard but just didn’t have the flow down yet.
The food, however, was generally poor. There’s no excuse I can give them on this one. It’s pathetic they were contemplating charging for Sorrento’s. While edible I’d place it a step or two below Little Ceaser’s.
we are Diamond level so we’ve been loyal to royal and will continue to be. We booked our next 7 night Canada cruise while onboard.

Hopefully this was a one off experience. of. It we’ll begin planning our meals a little differently than we had in the past and lower our expectations

Odyssey has a separate Izumi and the reservation fee covers the following as per Royal's site....

    What's Included

    • Start off with one (1) small plate, like Miso Soup or Pork Gyoza Dumplings.
    • Pick your choice of two (2) large plates from a selection of signature rolls, sushi & sashimi, flavorful bowls of ramen and more.
    • Top it all off with one (1) delicious dessert like mochi ice cream offered in a variety of flavors.

thank you. For the life of me I could not find this information on their web site.

  5. It’s been more than a minute since we’ve cruised on Royal Caribbean. A lot has changed since our last cruise during Oasis’s inaugural year.

Thanks to all the YouTube bloggers, I’ve found the answers to many of my questions with the exception of one, pricing for Izumi. I see I can  reserves early as with Chops, Jamie’s Italian, Wonder, and Izumi, but Izumi’s online menu appears to be Ala Carte pricing. What’s covered by the reservation fee?

  6. We are signed up for My Time Dining and I've heard some conflicting info and I was wondering if some experienced cruisers could point us in the right direction.

I see on RCCI's website where I can reserve our dinner times for each night of our cruise through My Time Dining.

When I booked, my travel agent pushed MTD because she said that you didn't have to plan around dinner times and could just show up and be seated anytime.

Is it one way or the other, or is it both? My best guess is that we can do either, and if we don't have reservations for a specific time, plan to wait a while? Is there still a wait if you have reserved a time slot?

    Thanks for your insight!

We were on Oasis last January. The first two nights onboard they weren't even taking reservations. After that we never made a reservation for the remainder of the week. We just went when it was convenient for us. We only saw a line that had formed one evening when we were leaving. Otherwise there was never more than 2 or 3 groups waiting to be seated when we left. We never had to wait more than 5 minutes to be seated ourselves.

We're on Allure this coming January. I have no plans to reserve MTD seating ahead of time. It sort of defeats the purpose of MTD if you have to make reservations every night.

  7. My son is almost 9, has a black belt in taekwondo, plays on football, baseball and basketball teams and is an experienced snow skiier and rock climber (they Wyoming kind as well as the indoor man-made type). He is more than capable but is small for his age.

However, I totally respect their decision to stick to the height requirement if they must and would never argue the matter with RCCL. I just wondered if any of you experienced your child being denied based on height alone.

    Thanks everyone for your replies!

It might be a risk for injury issue should he fall off the board. Under a certain height there could be more risk for injury. Excactly how I don't know since I've never seen a flow rider.

As a nurse, I've seen even the most capable person get injured in an unexpected accident. The odds are less but, there's never a 100% guarentee that something out of the ordinary wouldn't happen. Your son is an accomplished climber but, should he have one brief moment in lack of concentration, bad things can still happen. Heck, even pro-sports players get injured in unexpected ways on a regular basis. Capability does not equal invulnerablity. For whatever reason, height appears to be a factor in risk for injury on this contraption.

Since it seems to be all about a size issue rather than a capability issue, I'd say you'll probably find he won't be allowed. A dissapointement I know but probably reality. Heck, I'm well over the height requirement but I bet your son could out preform me on one of those things. I'm reasonably certain that I'm NOT capable on one of those things.
