  1. Want to book a Fly Cruise from Tenerife around the Canaries. I need the use of a scooter as cannot walk more than a few feet. Can anyone tell me do Tui hire mobility scooters for use on their ships or does anyone know of a way to hire one. Maybe someone has done this themselves. Normally cruise from Southampton so never taken a scooter on an airplane and mine is too heavy for that. Any help really appreciated thank you.

  2. As will we. It's many years since we stayed there but it's about as close to the port as you can get. We've also stayed at the West Quay Premier Inn pre-cruise and walked from there to the ship.

Geordielass, you will probably see from my screen name that I am also one.

Hi Sandancer it s a long time since I've lived in the NE. Thank you for your advice I'll start checking out prices, my husband needs to bring an electric wheelchair so we booked parking at the port so want somewhere where the parking for the 1 night is not to expensive.

  3. Thank you for all the suggestions everyone they've given me a lot to think about. I should have been a bit more specific with my needs but I'll check out the hotels mentioned. My husband is disabled so we will be bringing an electric wheelchair so we won't be wandering far from the hotel. Unfortunately I don't drive and sometimes his disability leaves him unable to drive far hence my reason for travelling the day before and using a hotel at least within a half hour drive of the port. We have already booked disabled parking for the cruise so only need overnight before cruise but thank you all for being so helpful so far.

  4. Hi

We will be going on the Eclipse on 8th October and would like to stay overnight the night before can anyone recommend a reasonably priced hotel ( preferably no more than £100 pn ) not too far from the port. We will be travelling by car so would be helpful if parking was included for the night. We've never done this before so please tell me if the price I am looking to pay is unrealistic. Thank you.

  5. Hi

Thanks for the replies good to know the water is fine to drink, hubby takes lots of medication.

I've looked at the deck plans but can't find a Gastro Pub on deck 5, is it called something else when it sails from the UK. I can see the Ensemble Lounge but I guess hubby will be able to get a beer/lager in most bars as you say.

Really getting excited about our first cruise with Celebrity think it will suit us better than RC.

    Thanks

  6. Hi

We are booked on Celebrity Eclipse in Oct 17, we have only cruised twice with Royal Caribbean and would like some advice about Celebrity.

    1) we are not big drinkers but my OH likes an occasional beer/lager. On RC we are used to the english style pub or the Pyramid lounge can you get beer/lager at any of the bars and are the draft beers in pints? OH has never tried them but might like to.

    2) can we take a couple of bottles of water on with us mainly for OH's medication he takes a lot.

    3) During the booking I was never asked if I wanted the beds twin or double, we are in an inside cabin how do we let them know we want twins, I booked direct with Celebrity.

    Any tips would be appreciated.

  7. Hi

looking at TA Spring 2018 Eastbound to Southampton. Disappointed to see IOS is going via Cork no expert but assume this will be a more northerly/ colder route and perhaps more choppy. We will be staying in Orlando before sailing and thought driving to FTL would be daunting so not sure how much harder it would be to go to Miami to sail on NOS and will its route be cold and choppy too. Sorry for all the questions but we had to miss out on a TA this spring as husband was too ill to travel so just trying to get it right for next spring.

    Thanks

  8. Thanks everyone I hadn't realised there were so many lifts on Ventura. My husband has taken a powerchair on the 2 cruises we've been on before but we find people rushed past us to get in lifts before us so we had long waits to get a lift and it was impossible to get to seats in bars when they were busy so he wants to try to manage without it this time. So long as he can keep stopping and getting a seat he'll be ok. Thanks again for the tips.

  9. Hi

We are considering Ventura in September, it will be our 1st time with P&O and only our 3rd cruise. I read somewhere that Ventura sometimes has trouble with her lifts. Has anyone been on her recently and is the problems ongoing i.e. Lifts often not working. I ask because my husband has mobility problems and can't do stairs so I'm worried we might not be able to get around the ship or spend a long time waiting for a lift and he's soon in pain if he stands for more than a few minutes. Any advice from those familiar with Ventura would be appreciated.

    Thank you

  10. Hi we are thinking of booking our 1st cruise with Thomson in June on Discovery 2. Sorry if this question seems very basic but online it says you can pay to book your cabin once you have made your booking why can't you book it during the booking process. We've only been on 2 cruises both with RC and on their site you choose your cabin and we always book an inside midship. I'm worried that if we book and pay then ring up and all inside midships have gone we'll end up with a cabin we don't want. If we book through a TA will they be able to tell us which cabins are left. Any advice would be appreciated Thomsons does seem quite different to other cruise lines but we'd like to give them a go.

  11. Thank you for the quick reply that makes me feel better. I was hoping you would reply Bob I've found your advice helpful in the past and I think sometimes people in the USA may get better info on the RC web site there but I'm just guessing, I'll keep checking. We were going to go in 2017 but couldn't get a cabin we liked so decided to wait till 2018 but I don't want to make the same mistake again. Thanks again.

  12. Hi I'm looking to book a Transatlantic cruise back from Florida to Southampton at beginning of 2018 but as yet Royal Caribbean are only showing cruises from Austrailia on their UK site. Is it possible they won't being doing any to UK in 2018 or are they just not advertising them yet. I think these are repositioning cruises but I'm new to this so excuse my ignorance. Any advice would be greatly appreciate.

    Many Thanks

  13. Hi we are looking at booking a Promenade Room on the IOS which I know are on decks 6, 7 & 8. Can anybody tell me are there any steps from the elevators to these rooms. We have only had inside rooms before which are level to walk to from the elevators and my husband has difficulty walking and cant climb stairs. Also can they be noisy i.e. are there any speakers outside the windows on the Promenade. Any tips would be gratefully received.

  14. Thanks for replies everyone. I asked because RC FAQs say the flight booking may be a block booking so choosing seats might not be possible which I wondered if anyone had recent experience. I know from past flights with companies such as Virgin that they will not guarantee us a seat together unless we book in time and pay fee even though he is disabled so I never expect it. He uses a wheelchair but can get out of it into his seat but it is difficult for him to get up by himself so I wouldn't like to be seated apart and the crew aren't allowed to help him. Guess I need to speak to those at RC who book the flights or book my own one way flights with say Nowegian Airlines or some one like that as one way flights are expensive with the major airlines as I'm sure you know.

  15. Hi we're thinking of booking a TA cruise back from Florida next April with RC with flights from UK. Their website states if you book flights with them you can't choose your seats through them and would need to contact the airline. Has anyone done this and might we have a problem trying to get seats together through the airline. I don't like flying but my husband is disabled so I wouldn't want to leave him to sit on his own for that long a flight. Any help would be much appreciated. We want to book our flights this way as trying to get a one way flight is very expensive otherwise. Many Thank

  16. Thanks 'thinfool' for tip about flights booked through cruise lines I'll have a look at that. As we want to cruise back to UK it looks like we will be travelling next April so looking for flights probably middle 2 weeks. We've been to FL twice with family once in a villa and once in an apartment. We preferred the villa and it's cheaper. Husband uses a wheelchair now but does still drive and doesn't mind hiring a car as he likes to eat off site although I do agree staying on site would be easier as we will have to rent an ECV. It was much easier in the past as family could help with suitcases and getting him through airport but this may be our last visit and we love FL and the people so we have to make it work. I have a replaced knee so can't push him and he can't self propel but I know it's still do-able with planning. Thank you all for the great tips they really are making a difference keep them coming please.

  17. I don't find UK TAs very helpful or competitive on prices. We book through a TA in Houston and book flights direct online, likewise hotels. This site has some good deals too.

Hi I see you live in the UK. I didn't know you could ask TA's in other countries to book flights for you. We want a one way from UK to Sanford, FL but I've tried booking online via Thomsons or an American airline but either they wont book far enough in advance or the prices are very high!! Booking a villa and a cruise back is easy but the flights are a nightmare.
