We have never been to Trinidad before.

I was wondering what did you do there for the day?? and What would you recommend doing there for the day??

Also can you snorkel at Trinidad?

Any ideas / suggestions are very welcome 🙂

we did Trinidad/Tobago last January, we joined two other couples within the cruise terminal for a private tour with a taxi driver (there are tons of them to try to get your business)  for an island tour and to Maracas beach, $25pp , took about 45 minutes the get there, the taxi driver was very informative and acted as a tour guide at the same time 🙂

  2. We had our taxi driver take us to Hemingway's. Beautiful beach, restaurant, pool, shade, umbrellas, loungers and hot tub. The hotel is closed for renovation, but the facilities are open and wonderful. You can order drinks and food right on the beach, no need to clean up for the restaurant.

what was the cost for taxi, chairs, umbrella and how far away was it...usually go to Seven Mile Beach.. Calico Jacks..

  3. Boatyard includes a chair/umbrella (first come), one drink, a 1/2h turtle excursion 2min away down the shore, and taxi ride back to port INCLUDED in the price. I don't drink and neither do my kids of course, so my wife ended up with 4 drink tickets lol.

See my sig youtube vid when we reach Barbados 5:25, you'll see how it looks. You just need to pay for the cab ride there $5, it's close to the port. Usual cruise herds, beach is powdery, water is nice/clear. Beware of sea lice on the ropes in the play structures, instantly itchy, rub with lime is a quick remedy and works.

Interestingly, our friends who bought the expensive turtle excursion through RC were 500ft away, same beach, although they were given more time in the water.

Great video, very informative, thanks for sharing!!

  4. We are thinking of doing a deluxe 22 day China land tour next year, with includes a 3 day Yantzee River cruise, was wondering what is the best time to go and why - choices are April, May or October 2017.:)

  5. We've stayed at Extended Stay America, 17th Street, several times, and will do so in the future. Free shuttle from the airport, $4 shuttle to the port. Nice clean hotel, pleasant staff. Lots of shops and restaurants nearby, for last-minute toothpaste and stuff. A short walk to the drawbridge to see the Inland Waterway and the ships in port.

Booked the Extended Stay America!!! Thank you all!!

  6. Hello

Going on a cruise next Feb. 2017, always used to stay at the Marriott:) Fairfield Inn, but the prices are so jacked up nowadays, that we are looking for other hotels...saw a couple on Hotels.com, was wondering if anyone has ever stayed in them, or any other suggestions..

  7. Have a cruise coming up later this year on Princess and have read about their free app that can be downloaded and used by family members to message each other while onboard ship, allegedly for free while smartphone is set to Airplane Mode. Any cruiser having used this system, I welcome your feedback, pro or con. Thanks.

We used this app on 2 different cruises on Regal Princess, and yes it works, its great to stay in touch while on board....recommend you download this app before you go on the cruise, since you need WIFI to download it, afterwards you are ok in Airplane mode to use it!!

  8. Hello, we will be staying in London for 5 days this June, were thinking of purchasing a 3 day London Pass with the Oyster card, not sure is we need the Oyster card with the pass, since the Hop on, Hop off bus is included for 1 day and can be extended for 48 hrs....We will be staying close to the Waterloo station...Any advise appreciated - Thanks

  9. Another Premier Inn location worth looking at is close to Bankside, near Shakespeare's Globe, Tate Modern, Bourgh Market, The Shard and London Bridge Station. You can walk a short distance across the Millenium Bridge to St Pauls Cathedral from outside Tate Modern as well.

It is a possible alternative if the County Hall is booked up.

I would also suggest posting the same query in the Ports of Call Britain area of the forum, you wil get some excellent help there.

Thanks again for all your help - Much appreciated - our TA got a great deal with Hampton by Hilton London Waterloo for us today!!!

  10. The choice of a lot of Cruise Critic members :)

For Southampton, consider taking the train from Waterloo station, just down the road from County Hall. If you pre-book (from about 6 weeks out) on https://uk.megabus.com/megatrain.aspx it can cost as little as about £8 to £10 pp. Those tickets can't be cancelled or amended (you choose a train time & stick to it), and you can book on only a few trains per day but two or three trains will suit a cruise departure from Southampton. No megatrain tickets for travel on a sunday.

Alternatively you can travel on any train (about 3 per hour) if you buy a regular walk-up ticket at the station - but those tickets cost about £40 pp.

Both Original & Big Bus ho-ho's in the road behind your hotel - I recommend Original's yellow route, which hits the important places & has a live commentary in English. Other routes have the usual recorded multi-language earphone systems. For Buckingham Palace you have to get off the bus, walk round to the front of the Palace, then back to the bus stop for the next ho-ho, they're not allowed past the Palace.

The river cruise included with your ho-ho ticket runs from in front of your hotel to the Tower of London - use it to return as well if you wish, & as many times as you like during the ticket's validity.

    JB :)

Thank you again ALL - got a good deal with a different cruise line today, so cancelled the old one and rebooked, now leaving directly from Airport to cruise in Southampton, then London 5 day post-cruise - and also got a good deal with Hampton by Hilton London Waterloo - Thanks for all your help and great suggestions!!!

  11. Most convenient location is within the (badly-composed on the confounded new googlemaps) box on this map.

Note the locations of the coach station at Victoria and the rail station at Waterloo - those for transportation from Gatwick airport & to Southampton, though with a five-day stay that's not so important.

Broadly, the best location is Mayfair, but it's the most expensive property on a Monopoly board for good reason.;)

I rate the best compromise of location / price to be around County Hall on the south side of Westminster Bridge, by the London Eye and riverboat trips and easy walking across Westminster Bridge to Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, and the sights along Whitehall - Churchill's War Rooms, number 10 Downing Street, Horse Guards Parade, etc - from Big Ben to Trafalgar Square. Riverside walks too along the South Bank to Tate Modern, Shakespeare's Globe, etc. Lots of watering holes along there too.

But hotels in that area are (all?) chain hotels.

    Going clockwise from Waterloo/County Hall..............

Victoria is popular. Less convenient but cheaper & a mix of chain hotels & small privately-run hotels. Near Buckingham Palace & walkable to Big Ben etc.

Beyond Victoria (outside that box on my map) South Kensington has a mix of properties and an excellent complex of museums.

Paddington is handy for trains from Heathrow, moderately convenient & good value.

North of the box is Kings Cross. Used to be an area of ill-repute but now regenerated & good value though not the most convenient.

There's not a lot of accommodation near St Paul's, which is a shame cos it's a convenient area.

The east end of the box is Tower Bridge. Popular with some, and handy to the Tower of London. But in the business "city" or "square mile" and a little remote from the rest of "tourist" London.

Wherever you choose - even places like Earls Court & Camden Town, well away from tourist-London - do make sure it's handy to a tube station. Nowhere in London is convenient for everything & by the end of your stay you'll be an expert on using the tube.

Handy to a ho-ho route is useful too.

And the Yellow Route on this ho-ho map also gives you an indication of where the sights are.

    https://www.theoriginaltour.com/media/1799/the_original_tour_map_2016.jpg

Once you've narrowed down your selection, come back for comments on your choice/s. That's particularly important with places outside that box because some are great neighbourhoods, some perhaps not so nice.

And since you have five days, remember England is more than just London. Some great places to visit from a Southampton base.

A car from central London will cost around £130, train from about £8 to £40 per person, coach from about £5 to £15 per person - note Bob's comment about early-booked bargains.

    JB :)

thank you ALL Very much for all your help, we've narrowed down to the Premier Inn County Hall - will book tomorrow...

  12. For your budget I would look at Premier Inns. They are a good budget chain. Always clean with comfortable beds. There are several in London. The one at County Hall on the South Bank is in a great position. Right next to the London Eye and opposite Big Ben. It's very popular though and needs to be booked early. The Radisson Blu Group of hotels have some nice, more individual properties. It is so easy to get around in Central London that for us the location is not so important as the accommodation.

Thank you ALL for your help, we've narrowed it down to The Premier Inn at County Hall, will book tomorrow :)

  13. It would be difficult to make suggestions without knowing your budget and what you are interested in seeing. If you can give a little more information I would be happy to give you some hotel choices.

Hi, we are looking for a location that is central enough for attractions and a hotel that is not too costly (mid range max 150-200 pounds a night). I hear Victoria or Bloomsbury areas are good. Thx for help.
