We stayed in 15130 on the Joy last October.  We were very happy with the cabin, however one thing to note is that the balcony is divided into two separate sections with a wall in between.  One section was very small but the other was much larger.  I don't recall if it was angled, but there was plenty of room for one chaise lounge, small table and a regular chair.  The cabin was very quiet and we really enjoyed being so close to the observation lounge and elevators.  While not as convenient as being inside the Haven, it really was no big deal to walk or take the elevator up 2 floors to get to the actual Haven.

We were originally booked in one of the concierge "suites" and found a great last minute deal to upgrade to a Haven stateroom.  We were so happy that we did!

That's very helpful, thank you so much.  I appreciate it greatly.  I couldn't find any info on that room.

Hi,  I booked 15130 on an upcoming Mexico cruise.  Any updates on the room or the angled balcony?  Thanks!

How was 15130?  How was the balcony?  Thank in advance.  We are in this room in July.

How was your cruise?  What did you think of 15140?  Could you hear noise from pool deck above?  Did you find any information on 15130 balcony?   I am sailing Feb 5th, are we on the same cruise?

So how was this room (15130)?  I am booked in it for July 30th.  Is the balcony slanted?  Is it windy? Thank you in advance.

I don't believe the concierge can help us in the Cavern Club I am afraid.  I think it is first come, first served.  Yet, standing in this club gives a unique thrill as well.  Either way, going to be fun for sure.

I'll just have to get myself there early and park it!  We're on the April 9th sailing (Joy) out of Miami.  Can't wait to be in the Haven and on the ship in general! This has been a 4-year in progress cruise with all the interruptions.  Enjoy your cruise.

I usually go from NYC but one time I took the Epic from Miami in December. It went to Nassau, St Thomas and St Marteen. I love going from NYC as it is local but felt when I was going from Miami that I was very detached and truly away. I really liked how the air felt when I was out at night on the ship. It had a "fresher" feel to it than my cruises on the northern Atlantic (which I love as well).

Maryivo- you mentioned RV- what kind? I was looking at getting a small one at some point to work in, puy my keyboard , radio - but would have to fit it on my driveway

We just sold our RV.  It was a class A bus style.  Since I've been afraid to fly most of my life my husband and I started RV'ing when our kids were really small. Taking like 5-6 trips a year.  We'd take two longer trips and a few long weekends to Hershey, Jersey shore, OCMD, VA, places like that.  We're from the northeast also so in the summer we'd head down to Florida.  We upgraded 3 times over the years.  My favorite RV was the class C.  It was smaller than the one we just sold and just right in my opinion.  You wouldn't need something like that if it's just sitting in your driveway.  Check out Jayco lite... they are very accomodating and would be perfect forwhat you need.  The hybrids are super neat too.  I already miss RV'ing and it's only been a few months.  I loved having all my own things and cooking for my family.  We made some great memories and got to see some really cool things.  I am looking forward to getting back to the open sea, it's been about 11 years since we last cruised (out of NYC).  The kids don't even remember it.  A few months ago I flew to Florida with my best friend.   It was the worst flight of my life....turbulance the whole way.  I cried most of the way home and took 4 xanex.  I even begged for alcohol but apparantly they don't give on shorts flights.  I'm surprised no one commited me when I got off.  People were staring...pretty pathetic I know.  Anyway, I think that was the best thing that ever happened to me because now I'm like the hell with it.  I lived through that, let's fly.  Go figure.  I can't wait to sail from a warm port and your description of the air makes me even more excited! Bring it!  Plane and all...lol.

@maryivo It'll help to give some info on what your family likes to do.  We've been to both, and S Caribbean.

Do you like to relax at a beach, and/or want to kayak, parasail, etc.?

Do you want to sightsee, visiting maya ruins, get immersed with local cultural, try to food there?

Do you want to swim with dolphins, scuba/snorkel (westeran is better), Standup Paddleboard, etc.?

Do you want to go shopping, buy local crafts, or go hiking and be with nature, zipline?

Any budget or is money no concern?

Going to each port of call and see what people do there, excursions, prices.  That'll give you an idea if you don't know what you like yet.

So my husband and I like the beach but we want our kids to have a fun adventure.  We've been traveling the states with them in a motorhome since they were little and they were sick of it!  Imagine!!  They haven't been anywhere tropical since they were 4 and 6 and we cruised out of NYC.  I have terrrible flight anxiety hence the RV and the NYC port.  But, I'm biting the bullet and flying to NOLA.  Trying not to focus on my fears.  My kids are 15 and 17 and we want them to have the time of their lives.  We don't concern ourselves with cost within reason of course.  I'm ready to spend some money on excursions within reason.  We are so excited!

My children are all young adults and much prefer the western itinerary over the eastern one.  We tend to be pretty adventurous and it seems like we just find more things that we like to do on the western side.

One of the best tours we did in Roatan was to charter a catamaran from West Bay Tours.   There were 10 of us and we had a ball!

We're definitely more adventurous. I think we're going to stick with Western Carribean and the poster above gave me a great idea to visit Little French Key.  Looks amazing.  I was getting swayed by the Enocre and it's newness.  I'm sticking to the Breakaway out of NOLA!!!  Thanks to everyone here for great input.

And they LOVED it!  Rope swing over the beautiful water, kayaking, paddle boarding, snorkling...and did I mention the monkeys?  So much fun!  It was a private excursion, so not sure if it will be available.

How did you get there?  I don't see it on the NCL site.

We've cruised both itineraries several times and prefer the western over eastern.   St. Thomas is very developed and to us it doesn't really feel any different that going to Florida.  Roatan is one of my favorite ports so I would always choose to go there.

Thank you!!! We're seriously leaning that way.  Do you also think it's a better itinery for teens?  We have a 15 and a 17 year old and we want them to have fun adventures!

  11. Hello fellow sea lovers!

I apologize in advance if this topic has been discussed.  I wanted specific info so I thought I'd post a new thread.  Like many of you I've had multiple cruises cancelled.  I am now booked on the Breakaway Dec 26 going to the western Carribean.  We are super excited about Roatan Bay and Harvest Cay and the Mexico ports.  However, our original cruise way back when was on the Encore.  I noticed the Encore going out of Miami same day but Eastern Carribean.  US Virgin Island (St. Tom and Tortolla) and also Great Stirrup Cay.  I'm considering switching bc I really wanted to sail the Encore but I like the other itineray better.  Although full disclosure I've never been to any of those places on either itineray.  So anyone out there have any thoughts or advise for me?  I've never sailed out of NOLA or Miami either so this is all brand new to me.  We stick to NYC but for obv reasons we cant' this time around.  Thanks in advance!  One more thing...is the weather basically the same in December for all of those ports?

I am getting ready to reschedule our cruise for the 5th time.  The first three were due to Covid, the last two were due to redeployment of the ships sailing out of New York.  But, it seems like even though they are giving a FCC incentive, it turns out that it costs just a little bit more ~ this has happened every time.  Is anyone else experiencing this?

Yes, I was booked for Norwegian Joy August 2021 (NYC to Bermuda) in the Haven.  I went to rebook the same exact room...literally same room...same ship...same itinery for June 2022 and it was 5K more.  I just couldn't do it. I ended up going a completely different route.  We are now on the Breakaway in a club balcony going out of NOLA headed down to western carribean the day after Christmas.  Excited about it.  Spent $150 more than my original fare.  I'm okay with it.  Hoping the will offer the biddig process once again but I have my doubts with reduced capacity.  Good luck to you.

It makes them money.  If there are available rooms they will let people bid up (this is my guess).  The real question is if the ship is 50% capacity do they have to keep the Haven 50% or can it be 50% in any rooms?  That is where all of this gets real interesting....

I agree, i was thinking that with the reduced capacity they aren't going to "motivated" or able to fill the ship and thats the whole purpose of the bidding system.  Who knows.  Guess we'll find out 🙂

  14. Any thoughts out there on whether or not NCL will be offering the bidding process once cruising gets closer?  On our original cruise we were in the Haven  and we were really looking forward to that. When I rebooked it was outragerously expensive even with my coupons and FCC it was going to cost me another 10K! So I went with Club Balcony Suite on the Breakaway.  I really hope I'll get the cance to bid on the Haven.   I know it's hard to predict but any guessers out there???

We are scheduled to cruise out of NYC in August of 2021 (also a reschedule from last year).  How in the world would NYC enforce negative tests? Stop you at the bridge?  I don't get that.  We'll be driving in from New Jersey.  I really hope our cruises are a go.

So, upon reading the actual article (my bad) NY has expempted bordering states so luckily that means us.

We are scheduled to go to Bermuda in June 2021 out of New York.  I contacted Norwegian who said the cruise is still on as of now.  However, upon more research, I've discovered that New York requires proof of a negative Covid test, then quarantine for 3 days, and then have another negative test.  Also, Bermuda has some protocols in store too.  If that is still the case in June, we will be cancelling.  I forgot to mention that this cruise was originally scheduled for May 2020, and was of course cancelled.

  17. We're scheduled to sail on the Joy in August 21.  We are in the Haven so we have great accomodations which will help to offset any restrictions.  Since we're going to Bermuda I am wondering if excursion restrictions means we can't just walk off the ship and say walk to snorel park or just explore the area right there.  Does anyone here know? So we can't leave the ship at all unless on an excursion?  I was hoping to go to a beach which shouldn't be a problem but also do the Wednesday night street fair assuming that is still happening in Bermuda.  I know that's a ferry ride.  Anyone who has been to Bermuda I'd love to hear your thoughts.  I know that none of us actually know what will happen but cruising is getting closer and I just hope there are no more cancellations.

  18. yes, this also happened to me.  I did the math and it did not add up.  Futhermore, when my second cruise was cancelled I didn't get the full amount back.  I got after the 25%.  I gave up trying to fight it.  I'm going with what I orginally paid and have paid since for my new booking which is in the Haven in August.  It's the easiest way to deal with it for me bc I got nowhere with NCL.  Even asked for supervisor.  Nothing.  Their calculators are magic apparently.

  19. Hello fellow cruisers, I feel as though I have been given misinformation regarding my FCC of 125% of my cruise fair and the 20% off a cruise I was supposed to be given for booking  before a certain date.  I have called and emailed to no avail.  NCL insists they are in the right even though there is over $1000 missing.  Can anyone please help me and put me in the direction of what to do next.  I feel so cheated and let down.  Thanks in advance.
