Very interesting and good to know!

Considering our next voyage includes six different countries (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and India), I have a feeling we be spending most of our time in SALT and La Terrazza.

So it is our luck that after our August 2020 cruise departing Trieste was cancelled, in January we booked the same itinerary you mentioned, for February 2022. But of course I am now concerned about our two overnights in Myanmar, due to the coup. So we will wait a while and see what happens.

With Canada banning all cruises till November, I see SS has now updated the website for the Whisper in October - i.e., it's not there.

I won't be surprised (unhappy, but not surprised) if SS just carries on announcing rolling monthly cancellations for many months to come.

The first Alaska cruise on the website is in May 2021.

Just received email from SS to cancel Spirit sailing 17th July although they have not updated the website as yet.

Looks like the next batch of cancellations is about to be released.

Yes, the website has been updated.

It wasn't revoked, but they've dropped it into something akin to a footnote.  It matters, now, since we were notified today of cancellation.

"If guests decide to forego the 125% Future Cruise Credit and the corresponding 25% additional benefit that Silversea is providing, a cash refund option is also available ^"

The note to which you refer applies to cruises cancelled by Silversea, not to those which the passenger cancels.

If I remember correctly the up to 30 day prior to cruise cash refund option was revoked and replaced on April 8. Please see the attached.

I also should have added that IMHO the Origin’s inaugural cruise will be cancelled by SS and you will receive a cash refund if you desire.

We aren't stressed about it at all.  It's not like the money has gone hard, since we can cancel for a cash refund up to 30 days before sailing and for 100% credit 2 days before sailing.  It's not like we have another cruise lined up!

We are booked on the Origin's inaugural cruise and are fairly certain it will be cancelled by the time we have to decide whether to cancel it, ourselves, and get a cash refund.

So that's saying that Silversea is worse at administration, and/or shorter on cash, and/or cares less about its customers than Seabourn?

Is there evidence that Seabourn is processing refunds more rapidly than Silversea?

Yes, noticed this little "detail" with the Silver Galapagos ship removed from their listing of ship options.  BUT, how likely will this new Silver Origin will be able to sail on July 18?  My bet?  Slim and none!!  In my view, Seabourn has been much more realistic and honest in saying now that they do not expect to start sailing any of their five luxury ship until the period of mid-October and early November.  Clearly, Silversea and other cruise line are not even close to having . . . the needed testing tools, good airline connections, countries being open, etc., etc., in order to resume a reasonable and safe level of customer offerings.  Plus, having its key audience of those age 60+ being reasonably confident that the health risks will be minimal during airline flights and on these ships with hundreds of passengers and staff grouped together.

    THANKS!  Enjoy!  Terry in Ohio

...not to mention the logistical nightmare of getting crews under contract and in place by July departure dates. And it’s unclear whether Americans (and maybe other nationalities) will be permitted to enter continental European countries without going through quarantine.

If you are booked on the August 19 Silver Whisper, your TA was correct.  Cancellation on April 21 would have been exactly 120 days prior to sailing and you would have incurred the 15% penalty.  To avoid the penalty, you have to cancel 121+ days prior.

If you are booked on the August 21 Silver Shadow, you could have cancelled without penalty on April 21 or April 22.  The 15% penalty period would have started on April 23.

Are you booked on the Whisper or Shadow?

The cancellation penalties are also on your cruise confirmation, which your TA would have sent when you booked. Good luck. But I suspect we Americans won’t benpermittedntonenter Italy for a while.

That is in fact the policy in the US.  Here is the link again to the terms and conditions for you to look yourself:  https://www.silversea.com/terms-and-conditions.html

Did you ever look at your booking confirmation as previously suggested?  What does your booking confirmation say about cancellation terms and penalties?

Do you have some documentation (such as emails) that you advised your travel agent to cancel more than 120 days prior to the cruise date and they told you there would be a 15% penalty?

These are difficult questions, and I look forward to the answers.

That is apparently not the policy in the United States. I wanted to cancel more than 120 days out, but my travel agent told me it would be a 15% penalty. I am not a very happy camper right now.

Let me try again. The policy Alexandria posted is the policy in the US which I and others have posted and to which we have referred in several posts. (It has been easy to find on the Silversea website and it is also on your cruise invoice and receipt, with the dates various penalties apply).  If the date you started this thread is the date you requested a refund, that date was less than 120 days from the Venice departure to which you referred. So, yes you are subject to a 15% penalty had you cancelled on or after that date. What date did you speak to your travel agent to cancel? (Did you read any of my other posts in this thread?)

I was also just informed by my agent that my July 9 Reykjavik to London cruise on the Wind was cancelled, and that I will receive details via email later.  Nothing on the website so far.

The first cruise listed on the website is now July 16. It may have been updated today.

Interesting that nothing has been updated on the website yet.  Your voyage still shows a available to book, while the resumption of itinerary page still contains the info from Apr 30.  I wonder why they don’t coordinate these changes better?

The inbound voyage departing 30 June to Fredrik outbound voyage also still shows as bookable. So does my now cancelled (by me) maiden voyage of the Silver Moon on August 6th.

NJ Cruiserman, my TA has been telling me it’s a 15% penalty up until May 20 and then a 50% cancellation penalty after that. I haven’t seen the cancellation policy in writing from SS, but I assumed he was telling me the truth. Are you saying he’s been misinforming me? The TA was referred by a friend, but is not the brightest bulb in the box.

As it seems like you are booked on the August 21 Venice cruise you could have cancelled without penalty until April 22 or 23. But the

probability of that cruise not being cancelled are   minimal, leading to a full refund, assuming they have the cash available.

I posted this item because Royal Caribbean usually follows Carnival albeit a week or so later.  They have done so two or three times so far.  Thus, I suspect Royal will make some adjustments next week, especially since many countries have not opened up to tourist travel (Italy is closed until 2021) and the airlines don't have hardly any flights.

While I do not disagree with the sense of your post, there is no such statement about Italy being closed until yearend by an Italian official. It was published last week in both an Indian and a Pakistani newspaper/website sharing a Sputnik (known Russian propaganda website) article, reporting in English what an Italian tourism official purportedly said in Italian to a reputable Italian newspaper. If that has been confirmed, please share.

Right, but less a 15% penalty, no?

No. As you didn’t quote anyone it’s not clear to whom you are referring. There is no penalty for bookings made in the US cancelled 120+ days prior to sailing, nor to those cancelled during their special cancellation offer since withdrawn. There is a $200 per booking charge which will be applied to another cruise fare.
As you are the OP, I think these facts have been presented in the several responses up thread to your post. It may be different for bookings made in other countries so YMMV.

You may be waiting a fair bit longer !

The UK offices of all luxury cruise companies are still quoting 90 days for the refund to be made. This compares to 30-45 days for USA. I have yet to identify why the difference.

The two - as yet not refunded - cancellations I have with Silversea are :-

    3rd March (61 days ago)

    25th March (39 days ago)

I also have a cancellation with Crystal made on 19th March (41 days).

This is despite my using a very strong, experienced and well connected travel agency. They are unable to achieve any acceleration of these refunds

I was going to file a Section 75 Credit Card Chargeback for these however the credit card companies are showing at least a 6 week delay before they get to look at an application. Equally legal action is a non starter at this stage, due to the long lead times, particularly in the current situation.

The total value of the three bookings is £57,000 so my patience is running out, but realistically I have little option but to sit and wait !

I believe that my friends from Cheltenham received a refund from SS last week. I do not know when they cancelled but I believe it was in the middle of March.

    We cancelled on April 9

Today I got a notice through my TA that the refund has "processed" and will be paid on June 4.

"Processed" must mean they looked at it.

I cancelled April 2 and my TA received a message last week that it would be credited back by May 30.

I saw your post on this on the Silversea Passengers group on Facebook as well.  It looked like your Facebook account was created on April 20, the day before your post there.  Am I incorrect about that?

So, pretty much a thread of hearsay started by a new poster to complain about something that does not affect them, on at least two social media sites.🙁

Thanks for the update.  So about 45 days.  They told me to expect 30 to 45 days.  I will be fine with that.  Even 60 as long as it shows up.

I don't mind waiting as long as I know it's in process. My TA called SS today and called me while on the line with them. The card I used for the final payment had expired and they wanted the new expiry date. The AMEX I used for the deposit onboard had also expired, but they said that refund was in process, but the refund to the other card might take another 30 days.

    I'll keep you all posted.

  22. Congratulations. This is the first refund of which I am aware. When did you cancel?  I am now going on day 28 and was planning on emailing my TA this morning for any update.
