Alaskan itineraries have to be cancelled because of the breaking news today about no cruise ships being allowed in Canadian waters until at least Oct. 31. I know there is another thread running which addresses this, but it obviously impacts Alaskan itineraries as they require a foreign port to satisfy the PVSA (usually Vancouver or Victoria, depending on itinerary).

Here is another link about the closure...

I posted this link on the related Celebrity thread. It was very well received as it's based on easy to understand science. There is no talk of conspiracy theories or innuendo.
What I liked about his analysis is that he advised the top 50 outbreaks did not include cruise ships. The impact of ventilation and AC systems can't be missed.

In the past week, there has been a massive amount of conflicting information issued. I have found that Erin Bromages information seems to stand up to the test of time.
There is a new video on YouTube (Travels with Bruce) stating that the New England and Alaska markets are out of reach this season as Canada is closed until November 1st.

Thank you. An informative, science, and fact-based article with plenty of implications for cruisers. While I was reading the part about the restaurant, I couldn’t help but think about the MDR with lengthy dinners in very close quarters.
You're Welcome! I was thinking of the interconnected AC between sets of cabins. I'll be back (to crusing) as soon as there is a vaccine and/or an effective therapy for CV19. Until then, I support one hundred percent testing of everyone on the ship before boarding and avoidance of ports with active cases of the virus.

Yes thank you. Stay well. I was actually a bit surprised in that Idaho had more cases and deaths than I expected.
Yep, It was odd. The virus seemed to first explode in sparsely populated Blaine County (Home to Sun Valley and Ketchum during ski season). The Blaine County virus was also traced to people who attended a conference in New York. But, they likely came through Boise airport.

Thanks to everyone for their input. The article was one of the best I've read.... No finger pointing, innuendo or unnecessary hysteria… Just Science providing us useful information.

Knowing this information will help our decisions on our cruises as well as at cruise ports and attractions. It is well researched and well written.

Thanks to all who responded. I appreciated your input. I guess the best policy is to act like we are on a ship with Noro, wash our hands, wipe down our cabin, avoid touching railings and elevator buttons directly, etc..., There was another CC member I followed, when cruising the Caribbean, who ended most of their posts with ‘Washy Washy”. Quite appropriate For this situation. [emoji4]

The title says it all. When I board the ship, I want to be sure that the ship is squeaky clean.
So, does the NORO cleaning process also eliminate the Corona Virus.
Thank You!

We were on the Constellation in 2012 and the infinity in 2014. We liked the Constellation better as a lot of the post 2012 cutbacks had not happened. The 15 day canal cruise we were on was under “Red Alert” for Noro. So, the Infinity was not quite as much fun. It’s a great ship though.

Any idea where the muster station is for Starboard Side (Sunset) aft verandahs? On Solstice....
Thank You

Thanks to everyone for their input and comments. It's appreciated. I'll remain patient a few more weeks.

We had reservations for three upcoming cruises. The deposits were immediately refunded for our November and March cruises. However, we had a reservation on the August 4th Solstice Sailing from Seattle. The Solstice reservation was cancelled for medical reasons on July 11th (Working on Insurance forms).
As of today, Celebrity has not refunded our tours or twenty five percent of the cruise. We received automated verification that each tour and specialty restaurant pre-pay would be refunded. I contacted Celebrity on two occasions about the tour refunds.
Per the last phone call there are refund transactions sitting in their database waiting to be processed in their next batch program run.
Is this delay normal?
Thank You!

And (Guess What), there will be the usual line on our receipt asking for the gratuity amount. The correct number is $0.00 for a hamburger bar.

Also, where are the "quiet" places for reading or relaxing?
The inside bars and Cellar Masters areas are often very quiet during daytime hours. Often the Observation deck is quiet during the day.

I would be interested in hearing what you think Princess did well and not so well.
Also, I'm confused - what do you think Princess could do to make it safer for future passengers - how was anyone except the victim and those in the room in danger? Update what procedures?
Good Point! I have been watching this thread and seen a lot of feel good comments as well as valuable insight. The main point was that the murder was caused by the one problem law enforcement hates to step into. A domestic dispute. Because emotions and expectations run high anything can happen. We read about Police Officers being shot frequently when they are sent to "Domestics". And often intervening Good Samaritans are injured or killed when they try to defuse a domestic disturbance.

Womdeful! Thank you fir posting. The large group I told you about will really appreciate it!

I have them from the week of June 18th - 25th. It will probably be Wednesday before I can get them scanned, and hopefully posted. If no one else does before then, I will attempt to. :)
Much appreciated!!! Thank you! I just did a search on the Emerald Dailies (aka: "Patter(?))". There was nothing to find. I'll watch this link....

Hello
A large number of family members are taking the Emerald Princess to Alaska (a few weeks before we take the Solstice). A number of them are new to cruising. I sent them the Celebrity Daily link from DrKoob (Please see below). However, if someone has recently scanned the Princess daily bulletins that information would be helpful. The age range of the group is eighty through seven years old.
Here are the Celebrity dailies that "DRKoob" posted: http://koobraey.com/photos4/2017AlaskaDailies.pdf
Thanks Again!

Thanks to all you replied! I appreciate the input. Since the cruise season has restarted in AK, we may get some real time answers.

Great Info! It sounds like I'm not alone in having the Sprint concerns. There wasn't anything definitive on the net...
Juneau: http://www.cellreception.com/coverage/ak/juneau/page1.html
Skagway: http://www.cellreception.com/coverage/ak/Skagway/page1.html :-(
Ketchikan: http://www.cellreception.com/coverage/ak/Ketchikan/page1.html :-(
I found the information above. Some of the posts are fairly old. It's hard to say if they are still accurate.
This Disney post is more positive. https://www.disboards.com/threads/cell-phones-on-alaskan-cruises.3514249/
I'll be looking forward to updates.
Thank You!

I'll rework my question: :)
1). Is 4GL cell service available in Skagway, Ketchikan and Juneau?
2). If 4GL cell service is available can Sprint customers access it?
3). What (if any) roaming charges are incurred?
Again, Thank you for your response.
-
I appreciate your response. Looks like I was not clear. Ships Wifi is fine and it would take a dire emergency for me to use shipboard roaming. My question was about additional charges for land based LTE roaming in Juneau, Ketchikan and Skagway.
We are on the Solstice.

I noticed that all of the ports appeared to be "roaming" stops. How bad is the financial bite for using data services from the phone? We have 24 x 7 wifi on the ship. But, it would be good to send the occasional photo.
Thank you

How are things looking for the Alaska season? I'm 90% sure it's not happening as I don't see a trans-Pacific sailing of the Solstice.
