  1. We will be visiting these three ports in 2025 ( among others). It is time to book our excursions. Wondering if anybody has been to any of these ports recently and would recommend a particular excursion they enjoyed. We snorkeled many years ago when younger and loved it. We would do it again if it was snorkeling from a beach or not a long swim from a catamaran. Appreciate any suggestions.

  2. Would appreciate any information on a ship excursion to De Palm Island that includes snorkeling.  We will bring our own mask and snorkel. I do not know if the tour company will supple the fins ( rather hard to pack those). Has anyone done this tour? if so would you recommend it. It also includes a buffet lunch.

    Than you

  3. I appreciate the information and the photos. We probably won't be doing the extra flight to get to the falls although they look amazing.

Please be aware that Brazil has this ongoing plan to require a tourist visa for US Canadian and Australians and it is the worst visa process - they keep postponing - only good part is if visa obtained good for 10yrs.  Many posts on CC regarding the Brazil eVisa Fiasco.

I have perused the posts on CC concerning acquiring a tourist Visa and I have to admit it is somewhat worrying. Also, wondering if the hotel in Buenos Aires is centrally located. It appears as the hotel in Rio is not.

  4. Looking at a cruise in SA in March 2025 on the Splendor. The cruise Includes a three day land trip  prior to the cruise or post cruise. The pre cruise is three nights in Buenos Aires and post cruise is three nights in Rio. The pre cruise in Buenos Aires sounds a bit more interesting but not a game changer. We have never been to SA nor have we ever done included land tours. So looking for some thoughts.

I agree with asking a bartender (If not crush time) to make something unique or that you like.  On our recent Grandeur cruise I asked Ronnlyn (sp?) to make a Pain Killer and gave her the basic ingredients, she had no idea but she nailed it!

On every cruise I ask a bar tender who I think knows something about drinks to make me a rum drink so long as no grenadine - the worst thing to put in a drink.  (I can make some good drinks at home so I like to challenge them)  Best mixologists are (so far in my experience) on Scenic, those folks make amazing drinks.

How interesting about Scenic. We have taken two Scenic cruises ( Danube and Rhine) about 7 years ago but don't recall the outstanding mixologists, so we might need to try them again!!

  6. I am finding this thread very informative. We have sailed on three Regent cruises ( both pre and post Covid) and have seen a decline in services. We are booked on two upcoming cruises on Regent but now interested in trying SS. What we have liked about Regent are the included business airfare, excursions, speciality restaurants and laundry. However, if service is lacking that is a big piece of the pie that is influencing us to look elsewhere . A question to SS cruises… Is there a fee for the specialty restaurants ( Silver Shadow)?

  7. Hi DeepFreeze63, Thank you for your thoughts on the land tours. You are correct we are doing Oct. 24 Rome to Athens ( seven days). Your three points are all well taken and we will probably do the Greece tour.

Techno, we have been to Vatican City, the Spanish steps , the Collosseum etc so just taking the pre tour for Tivoli gardens probably isn’t the best decision.

    Thank you both!

You will probably get more responses if you provide more details. For me, I've assumed that you are on the 7-day Splendor cruise in October 2024 (great time to be in Rome and Athens). I have visited Rome and Athens extensively. I have taken many Regent pre- and post- cruise tours BUT always they were "included" - the pre/post for the 10/24 Splendor are at least now extra cost.

I would pick the Athens post-cruise because (your specifics might change the recommendation):

    1. the new Acropolis Museum is AMAZING and you'd be going there without jet lag.

    2. The outside of Athens activities are interesting in themselves and you have never been to Greece.

    3. The Athens option is $1,000 cheaper.

  9. Looking for advice on either a pre cruise with RSSC or post cruise. The pre cruise is Rome and mentions the Tivoli Gardens. We have been to Rome once but never to the Tivoli Gardens. The post cruise is Athens and we have not been to Greece. It is quite a short cruise so we are hoping to extend for a few days either prior or after the cruise. Any advice is appreciated.
