  1. Lisyroo87, We disembarked the Miracle on the 27th, hope you enjoyed your cruise as much as we did. We had 50 and 60 degree temps, no rain.

Rep is correct, you need the booking #.

Thanks for your help! No, we booked in early February and yes our cruise was one of the affected...may27th-June3rd. I spoke with a representative last night and they said there was no way to resend the email, but that all we would need was the booking number of affected cruise for them to fill out a form and apply the 25% off.

  2. Lisyroo87, Did you book your cruise after April 16th? If so, you are not eligible for the discounts because April 16th was the day announcement was made. We spoke w/ a couple at breakfast who booked 3-4 weeks prior to sailing on our May 20th departure.

Another possibility is that you are cruising on one of the handful of cruises that are not affected by the propulsion problems on the Miracle.

The below link will list the affected and unaffected cruises in BLUE and RED.

Hmm, I called too and they said they'd resend it but I have still yet to receive it and it's been 8 hours. Do you know by chance what department it was you spoke with??

  3. TXAlex, I'll can the PVP tomorrow. Jeff on the Miracle cruise desk was of the opinion that we will get the 25% off the cruise cost including the deposit. So we get 25% off the $600 deposit also.

Ahhh...I guess I missed the fact that he has already sailed on the 1-port-short cruise. I would say call your personal vacation planner and have them do it. I always have a great expereience with them and you are sure to get your booking just how you want it.
  4. I've attempted to apply for my 25% discount on my April 2015 cruise 5 times with no success. Used both Firefox and IE for browsers, so I'll have to call to accomplish. Will update as this progresses.

Interesting point, I'll post when I see my first price drop on next cruise. I did try for 25% discount last nite and the website froze. Could have been down for maintenance. Will try again later today. yard work needs attention after 17 days.
  5. This was DW and I first Alaskan cruise, so we can't compare. But I will admit I was skeptical about AK being awesome because you never heard anyone say otherwise. So I was up at 530am (sunrise) draining the tank as the Miracle was going into Tracy Arm. Looked out the balcony door and saw the snow covered mountains, a little haze and blue, blue, blue skies. Threw on jeans and sweatshirt w/ flip flops and started taking photos. Wife knocked on door and asked if I drank the Alaskan kool-aid last nite. LOL Her way of saying . . .

Anyhow, weather was mild, we eliminated one layer and had the hoodie unzipped almost always. Zero rain, whale watching (H&M) skipper was wearing open sandals. Wildlife seemed slim, but we did see a whale lunge feeding on its side and another dive feeding, so I got photos of both. Bald eagles on channel marker, sea loins sunbathing on different marker, no bear on any tour. Did Tracy Arm explorer boat tour. Got within a 100 yards to glaciers, saw several bergs calving, got speed photos of a couple doing so. The blue of the glaciers can't compare to the blue in photos and I got good equipment. Still awesome. Did the bus up to Yukon and train back tour. Very enjoyable, bus driver was knowledgeable and pulled over for most photo ops locations. the sled dog camp was cool, but the sled ride is flakey. No snow so the sled is an aluminum cart on wheels, rides 6 people on sled. Glad we didn't opt for it.

I think the 5% reduction in propulsion speed is a precaution measure by CCL. And we didn't mind losing Ketichan. Enjoy your August trip, we did on ours.

how was thecruise overalll? how was the route/scenery? we sail in august..

I heard one lady complain about how they do the 25% discount. They apply it at your first booking. Then if there are price drops, they no longer apply the 25% off, so in the end you may lose the 25% discount altogether and just get the same fare as other people without the discount.
  7. Ok, we returned from Alaska cruise on May 27th. It was beautiful weather the entire drive to Seattle. If you can, don't miss an opportunity to drive I-90 from Sioux Falls, SD to Seattle at point in your lifetime. Amazing landscape & terrain. We only drove during the day and stopped at most photo ops. Yes, even Wall Drugs. Even Seattle had blue sunny skies both days. Had sandwich and salad at local Jimmy John's near hotel. The cashier said for us to enjoy the orange orb (sun), so the locals know it don't happen often. Got great photos at Kerry Park in Queen Anne district. GPS assist is recommended.

We almost left one couple in Juneau, the side rails were down and forklift was ready to lift gangway. As John H said, we seen many amazing animals in Juneau and now we see the Pier Runners. Nine were missing at departure time, 7 were on board 15m later, the last two were 30-35m late. LOL running with shopping bags in both hands.

Weather was unseasonably warmer than usual, the whale watching skipper was wearing open toe sandals. We went down to three layers and had hoodie unzipped every tour. The Victoria Bushardt gardens were disappointing, too early in the season. Keep that in mind if you go. $55 taxi ride, shared with dinner table couple, took public bus back.

Booked next cruise in Skagway. Has anyone tried the 25% discount on next cruise?

  8. When I wrote either northbound or southbound, I meant on the 7-day rt from Seattle, but coming or going. The original map for the itinerary showed it going to the west of Vancouver Island at the beginning of the cruise, traveling north, and then to the east (inside), at the end of the cruise, traveling south. Is that what this route is that John Heald posted for the standard 7-day itinerary?

I see no-one has replied. So I'll take a shot at this. I don't know how the cruise was set prior to the propulsion problem, but per John Herald, we will be on the west (ocean-side) of Vancouver Island. The Straits of Georgia look rather narrow so I would be surprised if our initial routing was on the east side of Vancouver Island. Almost as narrow as Tracy Arm except I'm confident the cruise lines know who is in Tracy Arm on any given day. The Straits of Georgia would be navigable for north and southbound traffic.

  9. Is it 25% of the cost of the Alaska cruise as a future discount or just 25% off the rate of a future 7 day sailing? 7 Day Alaska is generally more expensive than a 7 day Caribbean; so that is why I ask. If they give you back 25% of the cost of the Alaska cruise it could be a good deal.

    This will answer many questions

  10. Oh, please. Don't try beating that dead horse again. Are you still going to use the documentation from over a year before the Triumph fire? Didn't I see a post here that disappeared, about the feces running down the walls? Really? Is anyone still buying that fairy tale? I am no Carnival supporter, but I don't find anything wrong with Carnival's maintenance, if you cared to look at the rebuttal documentation that they provided to the public.

And yes, the failed USCG inspection was an embarrassment. It happened, and was fixed within the day, so what's the big deal? Do you even know what was at fault?

Nothing to see here, Pine Bluff, move along.

When the Triumph returned to port I expected to see several or dozens of youtube vids of sewage in passageways, running down the walls, etc. All I found was a 40sec clip and 10 secs showed the bathroom with sewage in it. But it was obvious that it came from the toilet, so someone accidentally or intentionally(I doubt) flushed toilet resulting in problem.

Post vids if you find others, but I could not.

Full Disclosure - I am a Carnival addict, but open minded to change my views.

  11. Lose all their business? People will be upset whether they cancel for dry dock or keep going at a slower speed.

After the Triumph mishap, I doubt Carnival would take a chance and keep that ship in the water unless they were comfortable with it. They are well aware of financial loss if your ship was doomed to break down.

When we were on the Legend in 2013, I saw where they were lifting generators on the ship. I found on google that Carnival was adding generators and apparatus to ensure hotel services will be available and to avoid a CCL Triumph failure.

  12. It matters to me a lot TPFKAH; I love Carnival, the reason why I sail them. (and I have sailed other ships)... And, how do we know other lines don't keep their ship sailing either if there was an issue, a minor one..we don't. I do believe, if it was a really serious issue, Carnival would not be sailing. A lot of people seem to be loyal to one line, and I get that. But what bothers me, is people saying Carnival, here we go again, blah blah blah. They are people not even sailing them, so how can you bash them? I was merely making a point, that it does happen on other ships, the only reason we don't hear about them so much and Carnival is because the Carnival was in the news, so here we go again Carnival. Get over it people. I love Carnival, you love RCCL, you love NCL, who cares?? Point is every line has problems.

DW and I have gone off the Carnival reservation to try other cruise lines, only to return to the FUN SHIPs. IMO - CCL has the full package, they do everything very well and several things excellent, occasionally exceptional.

  13. Yes, I thought the same thing. By them offering the $100 of OBC let say you use it for cocktails, their actual cost for that $100 is maybe $10 of actual supplies. So they look like champs for giving us $100 when in fact it only cost them $10. Now they're walking away with all those Ketchikan port charges. If your already going to spend that $100 it's an ok deal for you but it a great! deal for carnival.

The OBC is in lieu of port fees and taxes

    http://www.carnival.com/about-carnival/legal-notice/port-cancellation-policy.aspx

REFUND OF GOVERNMENT FEES AND TAXES:

If a port is cancelled from the scheduled itinerary, a refund of the government fees and taxes for the cancelled port will be provided via a shipboard credit.

Still looking for answer of FCD. Does FCD mean Future Cruise Deposit or Future Cruise Discount.

  14. Gardyloo - Thanks for the Columbia Gorge suggestion, we'll look into it.

JDinWA - wife and I are like steelheads, we like returning to where we came from. Not that we are from Yakima. But we prefer small towns over big cities, though we have lived in both. Actually our preference of base camps over nomadic travel is closer to our reasoning in returning to Yakima.

  15. We have May 20th Alaskan cruise out of Pier 91. Driving from midwest expect to be in Seattle area May 18th. Was considering getting a hotel in Yakima and doing the Nat'l Park Hwy (Rt706) drive to Mt Rainier on May 19th. Seeking info from locals on road conditions in mid-May. Likelihood that NPS would have road open to Reflection Lakes, Paradise, Narada Falls & Christine Falls. Then turnaround and drive back to Yakima. Insight welcomed.
