  1. i booked the Rotterdam for many reasons since I am more of a ship lover than a modern cruiser. Old ships are just fine with me, and a January cruise seemed long enough post dry dock to correct last minute adjustments. I also expected issues post dry dock because the ship like me is getting old.

But the ship was truly rushed out of the yard , unfinished and not ready to sail based on reviews/ complaints.

Now into mid December I have not read anything indicating all the problems especially plumbing have been fixed.

I can weather problems, but I have three people joining me on the cruise that have never sailed on Holland America. Will this ship kill HAL for them?

Can anyone provide any updates on the ship.....is it fully operational or will our cruise be a mess, people continually complaining and officers and staff stressed out and avoiding confrontation. This isn't my first time on an old ship...but a broken one....

I hope HAL has addressed the problems.

    Thanks for any updates.

  2. Bill and Mary Ann, If you happen to see a performer by the name Jeff Peterson and his cute little white doggie, please say hello from Tom and Mary Ann Beckham in Georgia. They are the reason we have our doggie, a Coton named Bailey. He does a magic and comedy show and is now on the Amsterdam. Thanks. and his show is really good.

  3. Thank you all for some really good advice. There is a good chance that our dr will set us up with what we might need but just wanted to get a broader opinion from all of you. This is really a super sight for so many issues that come up.

  4. Last year on our 21 day Caribbean cruise, we both came down with a terrible cough that lasted through the the better part of the trip and developed into bronchitis which also lasted for quite a few weeks after. I understand this is quite common. Have any of you gotten prescriptions from your doctor ahead of time and if so, do you fill it or wait until you need it in a port. That goes for cough medicine too. We tried over the counter to no avail, obviously. Also, the shop Doctor ruled out flu and whatever medicine she prescribed didn't help at all.

  5. We stayed at the Fairfield inn in Dania Beach last Feb and will repeat this year. We drive from CT for a 21 day cruise and get free shuttle back and forth, breakfast and free on site parking. They even had a shuttle in the evening to take you to the shopping center that has many restaurants to go for dinner and will bring you back. Might seem a little pricey but when it all adds up, it's worth it for all the conveniences.

  6. We had the VB5049 on the Nordam. We have a VA5034 on the Oostedam coming up. Looks like the balcony is smaller so is the room larger. Also looks like we are not over the life boats...correct? Anything else we should know....

  7. Looking at cruise for next winter and am finding a limited availability of cabins in VA or AB category. Are the ships already filled or do they release the cabin numbers little by little. I stopped making a reservation due to awful choices and wondered what choices I might have later on and how easy it will be to change cabins at a later date.

  8. I have seen a roll call for the second leg of our 21 day cruise. This being our first HAL cruise I was wondering if we get off the ship when it returns to FL after the first leg and if so can we board with a second set of wine
