  1. We had Matt a couple of years ago as our CD. He was great. CD do make a difference. Going back to Carnival after sailing in Europe with some bad CDS. I go to have fun cruising not to be bored to death. My daughter and I still talk about him and the fun we had on the cruise.

  2. I understand your discomfort, but what about the folks who fervently believe they need to bless before eating? Would you deny them that? Sorry, just cannot let this go unsaid.

It seems this discussion is all over the place. Bottom line, to each his/her own, and please don't judge or impose on others. If you simply cannot stand being with others, or if it makes you uncomfortable, eat by yourself, as others have stated. We're not in that camp, but that is our choice.

How about those of us who silently pray before eating? My faith is a private thing and I try to respect your beliefs or non. But don't assume that you know me based on my skin colour or nationality. You might be surprised.

  3. We had good experiences and bad. We ate one night with some British couples who felt it necessary to tell us about their luxury homes, cars and explain the menu to us. On the other hand, we had dinner with some couples from north Carolina who work blue collar jobs and gave us the biggest laugh and friendliness. Rudeness comes in all nationalities and income levels while kindness can also. Sometimes, we eat alone. To each his own. While we don't usually eat with strangers at home, we don't travel to see sights only .

  4. Traffic can be heavy at times in Rome. Plan on leaving Rome at least two hours before the ship leaves. Nothing is worse than worrying about missing the ship. Almost missed the ship in Florence while on Holland America, thank God they waited for extra fifteen minutes. Was on a non ship tour with a group of people who thought everything revolved around them.

  5. So, we're coming into Venice, spending the night and planning the fast train to Rome, then probably the next day to Civitaveccia (Option 1). Or we might go direct from Venice to Civit.?? (Option 2) We have been both places once so are somewhat familiar with Venice & Rome. Venice was just the cheapest airfare -- we are NOT planning any touring other than maybe taking the gondola which we skipped last time.

So far, I'm spending one night near train station in Venice on 8/29 and one night near the Coliseum/Termini on 8/30 and our ship departs 5:00 pm on 8/31 Civit. I'm rethinking whether we should just leave Venice & go direct to our ship on 8/31, but I know it's a long day schlepping luggage and we stop at Roma Termini anyway.

Question: Which Civitavecchia is the correct stop on the train? There are 3 on the Trenitalia website. Civitavecchia, Civitavecchia Tutte La Statione, or Civitavecchia Viale Della Vittoria. HELP! Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated on Option 1 or Option 2 for the train trip?

Last time we did this (2010) we took the Regional train from Roma Termini to Civit. but I understand the station has moved further away?? I remember dragging luggage up or down steps and walking a short couple blocks then getting the shuttle to our ship. I did read some other threads, but nobody mentioned the 3 Civitavecchia stops.

We are thinking about flying back to the states from Venice, instead of Rome. Planning to stay for two nights, where are you planning to stay? We were thinking of taking the train from Rome to Venice when we return from our cruise.

  6. I have sailed with Holland American, people are more sophisticated in part, usually older. There is less to do during the day and the shows are not as good as carnival. But we went to Europe with Holland America, loved it. Was on the eurodam, recently renovated. It's like comparing apples and oranges. I like both. My thirty year prefers Holland America, less craziness according to her. We will be trying princess and others because of the destinations.

  7. Just booked parking for a Carnival cruise out of Jacksonville with Global parking but after I paid, found out it for a parking lot named Jetway. I cancelled immediately but with a $5.00 cost. We will take a chance to park when we arrive at Jacksonville. Photos online and reviews leave a lot to be desired.

  8. I need insurance for work related cancellation. We use Square mouth brokers to find insurance. Good selection with excellent explanations of insurance terms. There is a board for travel insurance questions on Cruise Critic. I found out through that board that cruises paid with gift cards would not be covered for reimbursement.

  9. As a nurse, I appreciated when my service is acknowledged in written form. What I don't understand is not saying anything to a person about bad service. I usually tip the room steward and dining room stewards. Pay what you are comfortable with. My idea of good service may not be what you expect or want.

  10. We also brought gift cards from Citi to use on our trip until I read on the cruise insurance forum and confirmed that my cruise insurance would not cover my cruise paid with gift cards. It's not considered a valid form of payment. We decided to use it for onboard costs instead. Believe me, we were use the difference for drinks!
