  1. Currently on board and haven't heard anything about getting back late so I'm assuming we are planning on getting back on time. Left Cozumel about 10 minutes early and currently cruising rocking along at 21.5 knots.

    ARRIVAL APPOINTMENT CHANGE

    CARNIVAL DREAM

    SEPTEMBER 30, 2018

    September 28, 2018

    Dear Carnival Dream Guest,

Upon completion of debarkation this Sunday, we will be conducting some necessary work on the ship, which will take several hours. In order to complete this work as quickly as possible, we cannot have guests on board. As a result, boarding will begin later than originally scheduled.

Please push back your Arrival Appointment by 3 hours (i.e., 11:30 AM - 12:00 PM appointment will become 2:30 PM - 3:00 PM).

Arrival Appointments will be strictly enforced for all guests, so please arrive promptly within your revised time.

In preparation for final boarding and departure, all guests must be on board the ship no later than 5:00 PM. We will sail as soon as embarkation is completed and our itinerary will remain as scheduled.

We sincerely apologize for this delay. A 15.00 USD, per person, onboard credit will be posted to your onboard Sail & Sign account to cover any lunch expenses for the day.

Thank you for your understanding. Our entire Carnival Dream team is looking forward to welcoming you on board for a fun and memorable cruise.

    Sincerely,

Does not sound due to being late just maintenance. Hope your cruise went well!

  2. Is your cruise over with? There is a Dept called Guest Resolutions. Ask for a supervisor immediately. I don't know for sure if they can solve your problem, but be professional, explain the situation & give it a shot.

As for future reservations, keep this in mind. NEVER trust what a regular Vacation Planner tells you! I say this as over the years, we have learned & discussed many, many things with people in the know of the cruising industry. It's not the agents' fault. They simply Don't Know. There is a formula used for assigning cabins when a Guaranteed Rate is offered. It's very complex. I can tell you that any comments, requests or promises made by the agent, ARE NOT taken into consideration! It is simply a matter of When you booked, How much you paid, Who you are (your sailing status with the cruise line), What cabins are available & Where those cabins are. A Cove cabin is generally considered an upgrade. Carnival probably thought they were being nice to you! Keep this in mind when talking to them.

Cruise lines offer Guarantees when their cabins being sold are scattered all over the ship. The idea is to try & sell the rest by offering a good rate so they can fling you wherever they have a "hole" so to speak. When a desireable cabin is opened up, they can either sell it at a higher rate OR offer an upgrade for a lesser amount to a loyal customer. The problem comes in when the cruise line's idea of a Desireable cabin & yours Differ! They think Mid Ship is most desireable. I Don't! They think a Cove balcony is most desireable. You Don't! I generally don't go for a Guarantee rate unless I really, really want to sail that cruise & I can live with wherever they put us. Sometimes we've been EXTREMELY disappointed. Sometimes we've been upgraded so extravagantly, we were in awe the whole cruise!

I agree, there's no point in everyone's chiming in & saying how much they Love the Cove cabins. It's not what YOU wanted & that's all there is to it.

Call Guest Resolutions & see what happens. If you happen to get a hold of Andrea, I know she can help you. Let me know what happens!

    Thanks!!

  3. Hope you enjoy the Cove. My wife and I have been in a Cove on the Dream, Magic and Vista. Are looking forward to our 14 day on the Breeze in November. Not only may you easily see the flying fish, but may see dolphins swimming along side. We've also had great fun watching sea birds coming for fish as we get close to port.

May be an experience your toddlers will never forget.

    Enjoy your cruise. :):)

    Thanks!

  4. I like to gamble. Travel is no exception. I love to find hotels on Hotwire. They don't tell you name of the hotel until you confirm and pay. However I usually save 30 to 40%, so I take the deal.

I have looked at the "Carnival picks your room" rates a few times and the money saved is just not worth my time. You only save a few points, and the inventory is usually the most undesirable afloat.

I think the OP thought they were home free because there "were no coves" available. Rest assured that the online inventory visible to the public is not the actual inventory.

Now that you are in a cove, relax and enjoy the view, sound, and smell of the sea from near the waterline. It is intoxicating to be sure.

I don't think you should be angry at all. Carnival did nothing wrong.

You know what is crazy I do those deals too with hotwire and Priceline and I have a system so I know which hotel I will actually get and after more than 10 hotels I have never been wrong. I usually do my due diligence in researching these things because I am particular about things. It is my fault that I took the employee for their word instead of researching first. That said I am now coming around to having the cove for the first time. My toddlers will enjoy looking for fish in the water I imagine!

  5. No one is being rude. Sometimes the truth just doesn't suit people, so they incorrectly feel those speaking the truth are being rude. Not the case ! After all, you aired this for public discussion and opinion - and people are giving their opinions.

You have been a member here quite a while, I find it hard to believe you have not read (even read repeatedly) how misinformed many Carnival employees are.

Yes, people have been rude when people say I have no one to mad at but myself, that agree with totally. That to me is the truth but there have been rude snide smart remarks that were not needed. Once again probably my fault as I know the world is full of people with no lives trolling the internet. Why wouldn't they jump aboard for their own enjoyment.

  6. You were not told you’d get abi regular balcony. You booked a guarantee to save money. If you want a specific room pay additional. There are some rooms or locations I absolutely would NOT want and so I do not book guanrtee category. I pick my room and pay additional. You really don’t have a right to be angry, pay for what you want.

Think about it logically, you want to have the cheapest rate for a balcony but are demanding something better than the cheapest rate balcony. It doesn’t work like that. They can still sell those more expensive rooms, why give them away at the lower rate you paid?

I think if cruise lines are going to sell guarantee at a discount they should assign the rooms at the pier. This would eliminate hurt feelings or trying to figure out how to upgrade without paying more.

I actually was told I would get a regular balcony. If I wasn't why would I even bother coming to this board, how would that help "get something I didn't pay for". The PVP made it sound as if that was a different category cabin. I am demanding nothing just didn't understand that coves were the same category as I was misinformed. It doesn't say in the contract that a cove may be assigned, just the possibility of an obstructed balcony which doesn't exist on the dream.

  7. I have read thru all the posts and I apologize upfront if I missed someone already mentioning this but if my information is correct the cove balconies are 10 square feet larger than the average size of 35 square feet of balcony area. An added perk in my opinion. :)

Well hey hey hey that is a nice little fact! Thanks!

  8. Right to be mad? Hard to say. There are two sides to every story. From what I've found, the other sides rarely tends to line up exactly with the original. You knew what you booked when you booked it. You probably expected a big upgrade for the price of the cheapest option, right?

If you really feel wronged, at best, I'd say Carnival could allow you to pay the price difference.

No I absolutely did not expect an upgrade, just what I was told. If you had read my other comments you would see that I am considering paying the price to move. No need to be rude. I have picked my cabin on every other sailing in a balcony and am fine paying to do so. I understand this is partly my own fault and I have said as much.

  9. I did call and they say I would have to pay to be moved. That is an option I am considering but I have heard so many good things about the coves I am becoming curious. I may just go with the flow and it can either be a good lesson learned or one not to be repeated. I will have my 2 toddlers (3 & 4) with us so I may not get as much relaxing on the balcony time as I usually get anyways.

  10. I think the question is not whether you have the right to be angry, but do you want to be angry? Unless you are one of those people who get satisfaction out of being angry, it's an unpleasant feeling and you're only hurting yourself. I'd get over it quickly and enjoy the cove. I love coves!!!

(not really, I don't even know what a cove is)

Have fun on your cruise and I love Piazza San Marco even more than coves!

I also love Piazza San Marco but have no idea what it has to do with cove balconies or cruises in general (unless you cruise Europe which we don't, we fly and stay as to actually be able to experience our destination). I agree that I do not want to be angry and am not angry just feel mislead.

  11. Sorry this has happened to you.

Personally if one books a cabin to be assigned by Carnival you get what you get. If one wants a specific cabin then they should book that way.

The cruise lines job is to fill every cabin. How would you feel if you had been assigned a "regular" cabin with a view of the lifeboats?

Over the years the the "guarantee" cabins selection has changed. We used to book that way thru a PVP and we always got what we wanted until we didn't. We now opt to select our cabin book Early Saver and watch for price drops.

I know you don't want to hear about how people love the cove balconies, but we are a couple who personally would rather have a cove than a regular balcony! Much more privacy and more of a breeze without all that glass in front of you.

Can you cancel and rebook selecting the balcony you want?

Have a great cruise...it's always better than a day in the office.

I knew that on ships with obstructed views that was a possibility but I also knew the Dream doesn't have obstructed views.

I was afraid the cove would feel closed in and not open and also that there would be no breeze. In your experience there was more of a breeze? I also felt that when seated all I would see is the sky and not the sea.

  12. Love the coves, perhaps go with the flow on this one. Assigned cabin means just that ,assigned .

It's a wonderful day in the neighborhood !

When you are in a cove can you feel the breeze? It just seems that when seated you wouldn't be able to see the water at all. I will say a silver lining and one reason I did not want an assigned cove was the possibility of being below the galley and this one is just barely in front of the galley so there is that.

  13. I want to be reasonable ya know. I am not the type to call a company or anyone for that matter and raise a fuss over something. I may see if we can come up the money to upgrade I just wish we had know when we booked because I had the money then for sure to pay for picking my own cabin and would have done so and had more to select from if I had known.

  14. I booked a balcony cabin at a rate where the cabin would be choosen for me. I have done this before on a ship without cove balconies. I asked the agent MULTIPLE times if I might get a cove. I had already checked and noticed all the coves were booked anyways and she assured me over and over that I would not be assigned a cove. Well guess what....COVE! I am frustrated and feel that since there are numerous balconies open they should be able to move me with out charging me. I may would have left my booking as is if I had known this was a possibility (I was booked on a another sailing). This was not my fault in my view as I was assured by their agent that a cove was not a possibility. I don't want to hear from people about how they love the coves I know some people feel that way but we wanted a regular balcony and I feel that I should have gotten one as this is what I was told. Is there someone else I can contact to ask about this. When I call their regular number I just get very unhelpful vacation planner.
